They put in a switch box for our generator. They had to come back a couple of times because it did not pass inspection. Part of their proposal was for proposal and at the end of the job I ask them for a copy of the permit and apparently that had not gotten a permit.

I used this vendor and they did a big deal "$49 for $150 of electrical services". What happened is that I was overcharged. I talked to them to get this corrected. I don’t think they exist anymore. I’ve contacted the corporate/franchise office, but haven’t been successful.. I talked to someone that was there for the franchise. I called several times in the last month. The delay on this review is due to some medical issues I had and having misplaced the file. They charged me $780 for doing just a few things. They put in 4 smoke alarms, a surge suppressor, and a 6 inch trim ring. I originally contracted them for replacing two recessed lights. The electrician that came was courteous, and a nice guy. He wasn’t rude, but the billing was excessive for the work that he did. He billed me for a trim ring that did not fit my light fixture, and he told me it was discontinued. He told me the surge protector was top of the line, and it was not. I asked him about the charges and he said he wo gave me a discount, and I told him I priced the products that he was charging me for (they came out to about $350) .The Big Deal I purchased was for a certain amount of services, and I did not get the full amount of time for this deal. I’ve been trying to resolve this, but have been unsuccessfull. As I am a Vet. retired and disabled, this experience is distressfull.

I thought I would take advantage of the offer for $49 for $150 worth of electrical time. Very responsive office. Guy showed up in a company truck in uniform so I had high hopes. Spent all of his time trying to figure out why my pool heater didn't turn on only to end up telling me I needed to buy a new controller board. Never got to fixing my pool lights. Also realize now looking at the original Angies ad that I was supposed to receive a "whole house inspection". Never happened.
My guess is that this operation hires whoever they can for local jobs and dresses them up in uniforms and sends them out in company trucks. They are trying hard in the front office but it's not the same as having full time employees who are accountable. However, I fully admit that I do not know this to be the case. Could have just been the guy who I had.
The work he did was good but they did charge too much for the work. They did try to upsell other services. The charge for the additional work was too much. The charge for the part was very high. I did not have them do the additional work.

took a long time for the estimate to be drawn up (four hours) so that only a couple hours of work were left for the day, but they came back the next day and finished most of what we discussed. There were a lot of little things to take care of, so they did a good job of covering all the important stuff.

While installing a new washer/dryer we heard a loud POP and smelled and saw smoke coming from behind the wall near the washer. Knowing we had an issue we called our regular electrician who was not available as well as 2 others who also declined due to being too busy. We found Mr. Electric on Angie's list and they understood the urgency and sent someone right over. The electrician Frank was not able to initially find a problem but he kept investigating and finally found (2) faulty wires; 1 above the ceiling in the basement and 1 behind the wall of the washer. Picture of the wire behind the wall that could have easily resulted in a fire is attached. He replaced the wires, added a junction box above the ceiling and replaced the washer outlet with a new GFI.
Frank was very professional, responsive and the work was done at a reasonable price.

I had originally purchased a coupon for installing the recessed lights. After the installer(Mike) arrived he informed me that the placement of the lights would require extra work due to a closet in the attic that interfered with one of the lights. As well there wre holes to be drilled through the joists to pull the wiring. Although I was not anticiipating anythng extra I agreed to it. We also agreed that outlets previously tied to the new dimer switch needed to be independent of the new switch. Because the existing wiring was not properly identified it took Mike a while to figure it out but he stuck with it and everything turned out great. His willingness to see the job through to the end(and even come back if neccessary) was appreciated.
My only comment would be that in the coupon a disclaimer pertaining to possible extra costs be inserted. I don't recall seeing that but do not have the coupon to truly know right now.
I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it was great. I paid additional for the extra services and it was excellent service. The electrician who came was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time and explained everything to me that I asked about or wanted to know. He went out of his way to give me a good deal.

The technician was very nice and knowlegable. He did an excellent job.
I just felt that their pricing was not for me. I would have liked him to change all of our outside lighting including the motion detector. Since the company has a set price for every repair I felt that I probably would have paid much more for their service than if I hired an electrician by the hour. If something was wrong or broken with my lights I would have been better off using this company, but I think all I needed were new bulbs and paying $250 for half an hour to change them seemed too high of a price. Anyway, would I recommend them again? YES, if something was broken and needed repair!I might have just been lucky, but the technician who came out to my house cleaned up really well after his work.
I learned of Mr Electric of Western CT through an Angie's List Big Deal. When I called to schedule an appointment, I was very pleased that I could be accommodated within a few days as they had a cancellation. Chris arrived promptly for the appointment and he was great. He thoroughly explained what the problem was with my kitchen outlet and replaced it. My house is over 60 years old so sometimes it can present challenges but at least this job was no problem for Chris. He also swapped out my dining room ceiling fixture. Unfortunately the glass part of the fixture was broken during installation, but Mr Electric ordered a replacement fixture. The problem was resolved the next week as soon as they received the new fixture. I was very pleased with my Mr Electric experience. I would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to anyone. Thanks Mr Electric and Angie's List - you're both the best!
The technician came on time and installed the lights. Unfortunately, they needed to come back and deal with a wiring issue in the same box which may have been disturbed by their work. However, they did the needed work at a discount even though it turned out to be miswired by someone else. Another issue: theyclearly offered LED bulbs (a big reason to take the offer), and the technician wanted to charge extra for them. After showing the seond repairman (problem above) the coupon, they made it right and delivered the LED bulbs. Clearly a mistake in the advertising, and a painful one for them, but they did the right thing and complied with the offer as written. The problems above turned out well, but overall caused some concern.
I am looking to replace this deal with another - due to scheduling difficulties and continued slippage of the timeline to complete the work.

UPDATE: Company reached out to me when they learnt that I was dropping them to go for an alternate service provider. Bill took up the matter personally and really stepped up to make good on the previous scheduling difficulties. We reschedule, they arrived on time and within the day had completed all the work. Quality was really great and in short order Bill had restored my faith in Mr. Electric. I am now scheduling with the company to come out again and provide quotes on additional work for further recessed lighting as well as a whole house standby generator.

Response from Mr Electric of Western CT
"I agree with this member in the sense that the technician took longer than he should to go over the job, placement of lights, answer questions etc. We have addressed this in our weekly training sessions. This member had a very tight schedule as he needed the technician to leave the house by 3:00 & was getting ready to leave for vacation. We have contacted this member by phone. We would be happy to come back to satisfy this big deal after he returns from vacation at a time that is more convenient for him."

electrician was very pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately, he did not set the motion detector correctly the first time, but when I called, he returned at 7 in the morning on July 8th to reset it. He was very apologetic and fixed it perfectly

The job left a lot more work to be done then originally intended. There was an additional $230 for wiring that wasn't part of the original Angie's List ad of $330. There were ten extra, 4-5 inch holes that were left, due to the extensive drilling that was necessary to complete the job through the ceiling. The furniture was not covered, and there was dust everywhere as if the home was being remodeled.
The dust covered a leather couch with silk pillows, floors, TV, chairs, coffee tables, etc. I wish the contractor had taken more care and respect for our furniture by covering them. Initially he said he would, however he only covered the edge of the couch in the entire living room space, which left an exorbitant amount of work to clean up. The vacuum cleaner he used only spread more dust which caused more of an issue.
I had to assist with the clean up to get my home back to where it needed to be. Originally, I thought I would use the company in the future because of the finished product of the recessed lights; however since then, after discussing with my spouse, we both decided that between the dust pile and clean up, it wouldn't be worth it. Any professional should know to cover furniture in a home when drilling several holes (total 14). Also, afterwards we had to hire another contractor to patch all the holes. The contractor had to come back four times (3 to patch and cover the holes, then the 4th was to sand). This job ended up costing a lot more than we anticipated by going with the "big deal". So, no we would not use this company again.
I called the owner the following day and asked if there was anything he could do to assist with the additional ten holes incurred, or take a percentage of the additional fee off the total bill since there were more holes than originally quoted, along with the tremendous clean up that had to be done. His answer was to give me the name of a sheet rock contractor, and that the price was already a fair price.
Response from Mr Electric of Western CT
"It is true that the member contacted us after the big deal to help pay for the cost incurred by the holes needed to run all the wires for the recess light deal. Unfortunately it is impossible to predict how many holes are needed to get the job done. This job in particular had a few unforeseen issues. We explain to every customer in detail what is involved before we begin any work. We understand how much dust can be made from cutting the holes in the sheetrock. We have since implemented a new method to greatly reduce how much dust is incurred by this process as well as using more drop cloths."

New line competently installed. Trouble shooting on exterior lighting system x10 control was unsuccessful and promised followup never occurred.
Response from Mr Electric of Western CT
"Unfortunately this member has a wireless switching system for his outdoor lights that is no longer being manufactured. It is very difficult to find parts to service this x10 control system. Mike offered to research this system after leaving the members home & left a message for him a few days later that he was unable to find the parts needed to fix his issues. It appears after reading this review that this customer never received Mike's message. Mike tried to contact the customer again immediately after reading this review to explain that he did leave a message for him a few days after his appointment."

It went perfectly. Chris was professional, efficient and pleasant to work with. He arrived slightly ahead of time, which was fine for me. I would certainly use him again. And thank you Angie's List for the wonderful recommendation.
