He hasn't completed the job in the garage. The plumbing job was only 90% complete. He's still needed to close the wall and install the utility sink and the spicket. Unfortunately, he's been paid in full.
Response from M S Puskus Custom Remodel
"At the time that I was doing the job my wife needed surgery and I had to care for her for many weeks after it totally screwed up my work. I apologized for the delay and accept all blame for it. I was not being unresponsive I failed to review a voicemail. I'm sorry for that. I will take care of his work and I thank him for his patience."

Matt did a great job with the floor! We are very happy. Because our tiles were so old, and we didn't want to totally take off and replace all the tiles, Matt took some tiles from behind the toilet and used them to fill in the missing ones. He matched the color of the old tiles and filled in the spaces so that you can't tell that the tiles are no longer behind the toilet. Saved us a lot of money by doing that!

Our shower was causing a slow drip leak to our kitchen below. We had several plumbers and contractors out to diagnose the problem, but none could really find or fix the root of the problem. Matt diagnosed it correctly and fixed the issue for us. I was so impressed with Matt that I hired him to do repair and replace our back porch/three-season room. Matt completely tore off and replaced the roof, tore off and replaced the railing (which was rotted through), replaced the storm door that was broken, replaced a post that was rotted, repaired the cement, and repaired the gutter. It was a lot of work, and Matt is one guy, so it took a bit longer than if he had a team of guys, but he did a great job. Very happy with his work.

Very well. Mr. Puskus came when he said he would, kept us informed of his progress and did a good job. We thought his fee was reasonable.

Matt was very prompt about getting ahold of us and meeting with us to discuss the work. The price was great compared to other estimates. We accepted his estimate and the work was completed to our satisfaction. He worked around our schedule during the day. I think it would have taken the same amount of time just for things to set up, but he was nice about it. Matt works steadily and is very knowledgable. Matt is very laid back, we were fine with his style. For us, he knew how much time he needed and delivered. This is minor but clean up was ok, not great- he was nice, did a good job, price was great. I didn't mind handling the clean up but if that is really important to you you should say something up front. I'm sure he would accommodate your request.
We initially contacted Matt to have a tile stripe installed in our bathroom to after we had plumbing work done. When Matt came in he was very professional and assessed the job. We discussed our options and how the cosmetics would work out after the job, and he suggested that we might be able to reclaim some of the difficult to match tile from elsewhere in the bathroom to make it look original.
He was very prompt to respond and flexible on start date. We are so satisfied with the end result! The plumbers had ended up removing about two feet of tile, and Matt made it look original.
Through the whole process he seemed eager to make it look great, and I am looking forward to starting another project with him.

This job involved tearing out and repairing flooring and sub-flooring that had rotted from water damage, plumbing, electrical work, tiling, dry walling, and laying a new floor. Outstanding work! Highly recommended!

In the past, MS Puskus has remodeled our kitchen, added a fourth bedroom, and repaired appliances. There is likely nothing that he cannot do!

Was very pleased with how well M S Puskus Custom Remodel did the entire job went. All work was 100% done by M S Puskus, nothing was jobbed out to outside sources.

.

This century home with one bathroom was extremely lacking in modern features with much wasted space. The plaster and lathe walls were removed as in they were damaged over 95 years and covered with a type of paneling to disguise the cracks. A new pre-hung bathroom door was installed and trimmed out.

.

All the plumbing which had to be replaced and rerouted for the tub/shower, sink and toilet to new locations (hot and cold feed as well as drain for each). As with any century home, when you uncover and move things other issues arise. Structural issues were overcome reinforcing the floor and replacing the drain line/vent stack which was well beyond its usefull years. The years of knowledge M S Puskus has came in handy for solving issues as they came up.

.

All new modern electrical wiring was installed by M S Puskus for overhead light/exhaust fan, sink vanity light and electrical plugs with proper vent to outside installed for exhaust fan installed. Also, a well as a new medicine cabinet was installed.

.

New drywall was installed and finished on walls, all surfaces were professionally primed and painted my M S Puskus.

.

New modern laminate flooring was installed, after recommendations by M S Puskus based on usage, durability and cost. Am very happy with this flooring, and at least three people have seen the finished floor and are in the process of giving their bathrooms a simple makeover with this flooring.

.

New toilet, sink vanity and bathtub/shower were installed. Again, M S Puskus installed all fixtures with great knowledge and ability.

.

Finally the construction of two floor to ceiling linen cabinets were made on site. These were designed to replicate the sink vanity wood work down to the smallest detail, including the doors and trim matching the doors, drawers and trim looking exactly like they came from the factory. The color of the paint was even perfectly matched and finished expertly by M S Puskus.

.

I am very pleased with the final product. A beautiful showroom quality bathroom with fantastic functionality and design. Will be having M S Puskus back for the next remodel job I need for sure!

The Good- When the project first started, Matt was being very productive and communicating well. He came up with some very good suggestions on the project. His work was good and things seemed to be moving forward every week, even though he ran into some problems with the person that was helping him. Some of the work he did specifically the new wood floor he installed and the drywall work around my sliding glass door and skylights look great.
The Bad-
I travel a lot for work, so I was gone for weeks at a time. The project started in late February and I started travelling more often in April. Progress seemed to slow significantly starting around the time I started travelling and communication got very challenging. From the start, I told Matt that I was looking to finish the kitchen in order to sell the house and I need to be done by mid May. He said he should be able to meet that deadline. What I didn't know was that Matt sometimes worked less than 20hrs/week and rarely told me when he couldn't make it. The project starting getting significantly behind as I was starting to travel more. I asked for certain things to be prioritized and those request were eventually honored, but after even more delays. An example, I wanted to have an electrical inspection done during one of the weeks that I was home. I asked Matt to prioritize that the week before I got home. I was able to finally get an inspection 2 weeks later due to a delay in finishing what was needed for it. Another example on 5/20, I asked him to submit all of the receipts for the work that was done and the $ I paid him. I am still waiting for the receipts.
The Ugly-
Matt originally quoted my kitchen project at 6 weeks and $11,500. After almost 16 weeks and significantly more $ than what was quoted, he stopped coming to work on the project. I have not heard from him in 3 weeks. He convinced me to pay him by the hour, saying that he could finish the project much quicker than 6 weeks. Based on his reviews, I agreed to it. That was my first mistake. When the project reached the 8th week and still had a significant amount of work left, I tried to talk with Matt about the project delays. My focus was to come to some type of reasonable agreement that works for both of us. During that conversation, he admitted to significantly low-balling his original bid. I understand that happens at times, and I was still willing to work with Matt and have him finish the project. Matt ignored my request and kept working with no changes. From that point forward, it seemed that Matt was only interested in getting a paycheck. Even the other contractors that I hired started making comments on how slow the kitchen was going. I've hired 3 different contractors to do various work around my house this year. Matt was the only one I've had problems with.
Based on seeing Matt work for the last 4 months, he seems to be a handy-man that got overwhelmed with the size and complexity of this project. From the start, I provided a list of the item to be done Detailed in the What did the provider do section) and also provided drawings of the finished kitchen. I have done a lot of different work on my house and have some experience doing large home improvement projects. Yes, there were changes to the project but the original scope changed very little. A wood floor instead of laminate was installed, I added a few outlets in the kitchen. Again, the major scope of the project changed very little. 1 major change was the kitchen cabinets and I knew it would add a week or 2 to the length of the project. The problem was he started the cabinets during the 14 week of work.

Matt was our second call and should have been our first. We are new home owners and really are like babes lost in the woods. Our first meeting with Matt was great,I felt much better after talking to him and the fact that he actually measured the space correctly was a huge improvement from the first guy. He listened to our request took pictures and call/Emailed us with an estimate and told us when he could come to solve of our dishwasher issue. And guess what? He showed up on time, was neat,

professional and really did a great job!! We really could not be more pleased. He really went out his way and didn't do a rush job.
Matt scheduled the job quickly as he was concerned about the floor tile and additional damage to the floor. He worked steadily and diligently to remove the wall grout with consideration to keep the dust and associated mess contained. When it came to try and remove the grout from the floor (pin hole leak) the entire tile floor started to come up. It was apparent that the floor needed to be redone; as it would happen we had previously purchased tile which was used on the floor. This development was not totally unanticipated but it did make the repair job a larger one than originally discussed. Matt continued the work needed, as well as giving the needed time for the tile to dry before regrouting the entire shower stall.
Since we had agreed to an hourly rate versus a quoted cost, we were unsure of what the final cost would be; can say that we felt Matt was fair with us and the job done was commensurate with the final cost.
Once the job was started, Matt stuck with it even as that meant he'd come for only a few hours of the day because some of the work needed time to dry. The work area was cleaned up after each day; the work done was most satisfactory and Matt is an easy person to engage with any questions etc. that might come up.
We started a project we didn't have time to complete before our daughter's first birthday party. With young children and busy jobs, we decided to seek help. Even with that said, hiring someone to finish our family room remodel was a very difficult to decision to make; as my husband can all of this work himself, and he's a perfectionist. We both expected our contractor to exceed our expectations. Matt was a perfect choice for us. Working with our deadline, he got the job done and the results were beautiful! Most important, he's extremely trustworthy. We have gave him a key to our home so he could come and go as he needed. Matt is very professional and was a pleasure to have around. Our son fondly referred to him as Uncle Matt. Not only did we find a very skilled professional, we found one we could trust - and that's hard to come by these days.

The work he did with the installation of the fans was fine and he was professional and was on time. We contacted him for the second time in the summer to repair the side of my garage which had some wood rot due to water damage. He agreed to do it and his price was reasonable. We contacted him probably in June or July and told him that it was not urgent but we would like to get the work done by fall. He eventually came in late October and got the side of the garage off. He did not complete the work and it took him weeks to get through it and gave several excuses and he would also not answer his phone. We left several messages and he did not respond to it. He did not get the work done before bad weather started to set in. He worked by himself and the work he did was good. He left all the removed wood in our backyard throughout the winter. When he put the new wood up, he painted it when it was drizzling. So he had to come back and finish the painting work in the spring. He said he would come and remove the trash which he did not and then he said he would pick up the trash and remove it before winter which he did not do it again. I made an independent contractor to come out and remove the trash. I did not pay M S Puskus for the portion that I paid to the contractor. He was not responsive and was not on time and is not dependable. The work that he did was fine, accept that he painted when it was drizzling. We will not be using his service again.
