We feel it is important to preface this review by saying that we have owned and remodeled five homes over the past 23 years and this has been, by FAR, the absolute worst experience we have had with a contractor. We chose to use a general contractor this time as one of us was undergoing intensive medical treatment and we felt that a general contractor would make sure that the process went smoothly with minimal intervention from us. We could not have been more wrong. We hired Mr. Nabors in February to do a major renovation of the bathrooms and flooring of a house we had recently purchased. Per our contract, the scope of work was to include: • Full gut and remodel of master bath, to include installation of a curbless shower and the replacement of two windows • Full gut and remodel of guest bath • Refinish of existing hardwood flooring and install of hardwood in hallway and three bedrooms • Installation of hearth tile • Reconfiguration of the center fireplace to allow for more shelving and media housing • Repainting of walls and ceiling in central great room We were quoted a price of $25,250.00 to complete the work, which was to include paint, insulation, electrical components, plumbing hardware with the exception of faucets, grout, adhesives, thinset, two windows, and a small amount of drywall and lumber for the fireplace/media center. We provided at our cost all of the tile, hardwood flooring, shower and sink faucets, toilets, tub, medicine cabinets, vanity and sinks. We paid him 50% of the project cost, over $12,000.00 dollars on February 1, 2016 and they proceeded with the project. 10 days later after the start of construction, Mr. Nabors asked for a payroll draw of $2500.00 to pay his people for the week. Where did $12,000.00 go in ten days? Especially considering that we bought the majority of the fixtures and materials. Unfortunately, we chose to give him the benefit of the doubt at the time even though this should have been a major red flag. From the very outset, it became clear that Mr. Nabors had almost zero oversight of the project. His workers were unskilled and the work was sloppy at best. The tile had to be ripped out and redone. They failed to install insulation in the shower (which is situated on an exterior wall), so that had to be redone. The texture they applied to the walls and niches in the fireplace media center looked like a child’s craft project. They were also incredibly destructive. We had brand new double entry doors, three sets of French doors, and a glass paned exterior door that had all been recently installed by Pella. His crew bashed gouges and scratches into the front entry door, took a chunk out of the side entry door and destroyed the wood threshold and molding. They stacked things on top of the expensive fixtures and supplies we purchased and left the jobsite a wreck, with trash and debris everywhere including food wrappers and cigarette butts inside our home. We repeatedly pointed these things out to Mr. Nabors at the only time he made an appearance – for money, and each time he was full of apologies and assurances that the deficiencies would be corrected. His lack of oversight showed in the quality of his people’s work. The plumbing work in particular was terrible. The cast iron tub drain was installed improperly. The overflow valve allowed water to pour out of the tub and onto the floor. The faucets were installed incorrectly and did not turn the correct direction and the supply lines to the vanity and guest toilet were leaking. The shower hardware wasn’t installed at all because the grout had not been done yet. The tub was not draining because the drain pipe was full of debris from when they reinstalled it and the exposed plumbing, which Mr. Nabors assured us, would be chrome – is not chrome. We personally grouted the shower and hired a licensed professional plumber to come in and repair the other issues for a cost of $428.87. Our curbless shower was not properly constructed and allows water to escape outside of the shower area and is left with large areas of standing water that must be squeegeed toward the drain every single time you shower. The entire shower no doubt needs to be ripped out and reconstructed, something we have not yet gotten an estimate on. The fireplace/media center was also left with multiple issues. Side niches were unfinished, and the electrical work in niches was extremely dangerous and NOT code compliant. Glass shelves in the niches were also NOT replaced. Finish work and painting was completed by us. The glass shelves were $65.06 and corrective electrical work performed by a licensed professional electrician was $293.76. Mr. Nabors tried to make up for what he admitted was poor quality work by bringing in another worker who was more skilled at tile and flooring. He admittedly did a much better job and was very professional. This person left the job however because he wasn’t being paid. We discovered that Mr. Nabors owed him a significant amount of back pay even though we were still paying weekly payroll draws. This put me over the edge. At this point I had paid him most of the project budget and the project was only 50 percent completed at best. In retrospect we realize this was a huge mistake. The thought of someone working as hard as this person was and not being paid for honest work is abhorrent to us, so we asked the worker how much was owed to him and paid him directly as we had no faith that Mr. Nabors would give him the money. It was at this point that we decided to fire him. The total of money paid to Mr. Nabors at this point, including the back wages owed to the individual above was $25,101.04. This is $148.96 less than the quote for the entire job. We were forced to pay the following out of pocket to complete the project: • Cost to fix and finish install of hardwood flooring including stain and corrections - $3567.00. • Cleanup of debris left on site. Cost for a Bagster and pickup (not including our labor) - $190.47. • Hearth tile install was not completed. Quoted price in our contract with Mr. Nabors - $225.00. • Cost for Pella to come out to give a repair estimate - $120.00 • According to Pella Doors cannot be repaired, only replaced - $4700.00 • Cost of paint - $250.00 • Cost for electrical repairs by licensed electrician - $293.76 • Replaced glass shelving in niche - $65.06 • Cost for repairs for botched plumbing - $428.87 This brings the total spent on completing the unfinished job and mitigating the damages (not including our time and labor and work that we haven’t yet had corrected or gotten an estimate for) to $9,840.16. So essentially, we’re out over $10,000 because we made the mistake of hiring Mr. Nabors. We have the initial contract, pictures, invoices, and cancelled checks documenting the entire process. He still has equipment taking up space in our garage and has made no effort to get it back. This is no doubt because he knows he was in the wrong and owes us for the money he took for work not performed. We are not holding it for ransom. He can have it back provided a member of local law enforcement is on site to mediate. It goes without saying, we cannot recommend his services.

Mr Nabors carefully removed the granite counter top and then adjusted the kitchen cabinet. After the cabinet had been readjusted Mr Nabors reinstalled the granite counter top. He then adjusted all drawers in the cabinet so that they closed perfectly. All work was done with the utmost care to insure no damage to either the counter top or the cabinet. Mr Nabors explained all the work that was being done and insured that I was satisfied with the results. The work area was cleaned and all debris was removed. He provides excellent service, detailed work and is a professional in every respect. I highly recommend Mr Nabors.
The process started out well, but now he has not come out to finish the work. He said he lost his masonry guy and would be out on Monday, but it's now Thursday and he hasn't done any more work and is not returning my many phone calls. This entire process started three weeks ago and I have half-finished work. Now I'm going to have to go home and personally move the stone he left sitting in my front yard, on top of not having my work finished.

It was great. They were on time (hard quality to find around here), very professional and completed the job in about 45 minutes. I would definitely hire them again.
I lowered the rating on price, but they were less expensive than everyone else. I guess it's the price you pay for living in this area. Some contractors try to charge way too much.
On the first day they were scheduled to work, I got a call asking if we could push back the start date. Mr. Nabors was having health problems, and was also trying to juggle a very large commecial job with a strict completion date. From there, it was a daily thing to wonder if anyone was going to show up. What probably could've been completed in 1 week took almost a month. In the end, because of the inconsistency of his employees, Mr Nabors took a little off the total due. They did a nice job, and cleaned up after their work. But because of the staffing issues and length of time it took to complete, I cannot say I'd use this company again.
Johnny Nabors and crews started working on the home with an expected completion of 8 weeks. Many things cropped up to make the time line unattainable. The first thing, was an abandoned septic was located right in line with the pier line. Johnny was there and he filled the hole and finished the pier and beam. Then the rains came delaying progress, the changes that I had asked for were done without question and done right. The metal roof on the home was totally re-done and when finished, a HUGE pecan tree in a neighbors yard split and fell onto the new roof during a wind storm. Johnny was there and his crew carefully removed the branches and found no damage to the roof. More changes were made and of course, time was consumed doing the new items. All of this time, Johnny just went with the flow and did what we asked. He worked in conjunction with Bob Kyle Builders. Kyle had his crew doing different things and they were awesome, getting the things done. He came by almost everyday to check progress and if he saw something on the ground (trash, etc) he had it removed. His crew came by in the mornings and cleaned the work area.
Nabors had a really difficult time keeping up with the things we wanted changed and keeping with the time alotted for the project. As it turns out, it took a while longer to complete the job. His last project was a kitchen island on wheels. WOW! This was AWESOME. The home owner is completely satisfied with the job and the costs. Johnny Nabors and Bob Kyle did an awesome job and a super effort was put into the project to make it work. Both had some really good ideas to change some areas that made it work so much better. They worked to make things right, and their efforts and honesty are appreciated.
These contractors went above and beyond. I would recommend them for any project one might have.
I contacted Mr. Nabors about the drywall repair thru Angies List. He responded, came to our home and looked at the work, which consisted of repairing 3 small areas where walls had been cut open to repair plumbing. Later he called and said he had a drywall man available, and priced the job. The bid was a little higher than I expected but included the drywall repair as well as replacing the necessary trim, and since we were really tired of looking at the holes in the walls, I told John to do the job.
Mr. Nabors had a sub-contractor come to our home and begin the work. He did the repairs over 2 days due to the time required for the drywall compound to cure. When he finished on the second day, he told me that Mr. Nabors wanted a check immediately. I was tied up with an appliance delivery, so I took a quick look at the repairs that had been done and wrote a check.. The sub contractor called a couple of days later and asked if we were satisfied with the work. I told him that he had used the wrong "foot" trim in a bathroom, and he said he'd be glad to come back and replace it. We weren't able to set a time when we were both available, so finally I bought the trim and replaced it myself.
My wife and I also learned the hard way that when a contractor sprays on drywall texture without using tape or plastic sheeting, that there is a lot of cleanup to be done, which apparently was not part of the job Mr. Nabors bid. We spent a good amount of time cleaning drywall patching compound off of our our custom coated garage floor. Most of the food items in the pantry also required wiping down since they had a fine coat of compound from the spraying process.
Looking back, if I take into consideration the cleanup time and trim replacement that we did that should have been part of the job, I'd have to say I paid too much for this job.
We contracted Nabors construction to build a 40' x 24? 4 car garage and received a bid on Dec. 29, 2013. The contract was very vague and we had several questions which were submitted on Jan 2, 2014. We received an email that we would be contacted soon. We followed up on Jan 22, 2014 since we hadn't heard back. We heard back from Nabors Construction on
2-4-14 responding to our questions, and noting that they had several quotes to customers and would need an answer immediately.
Mr. Nabors came to our house sat down went over our contract, which we signed for $46,900. After signing the contract and going to look at the work site, it became immediately clear that the grading of the job site hadn?t been taken into
consideration and Mr. Nabors told us he had not remembered all the extra work it was going to take. At this time there wasn't any mention of problems that would/could possible happen. When it became apparent the grade was going to result in a drop off of the drive of more than 2 feet, we expressed great concern up to and including the date the cement was poured. Mr. Nabors assured us again and again, to trust him, not to worry; he would take care of the problem. Mr. Nabors has never fixed this issue.
The contract also included grading the area around the garage for rain drainage. The building of the garage was complete on May 22, 2014. We were very happy with the garage. Paying for the contract before the grading was completed and fences put
back up as had been contractually agreed on and a detailed invoice received was a MISTAKE!!! He stated many times he had
underbid the job. We received a $6,000 bid to do fix the grading of the garage to correct the 2 foot drop off and an
answer was needed immediately. We had a lot of questions and wanted to go over them in person. Namely, the largest question was why we were responsible for the lack of planning by Nabors Construction resulting in a 2 foot drop of from the drive to the ground. An appointment was made to come out the next day and he didn't show up. When further calls were made, appointments were not kept and phone calls were not returned.
We finally sent a letter on June 14, detailing with pictures the problems with the grading since water was running into the garage since the land had not been graded per our contract. We had a 2 foot drop off from the driveway to
the ground. Our fences were still down and had not been put back up, we had temporary fencing everywhere. Additionally, the fences and gate that Nabors Construction had taken down were left in the yard and had not been put up. These issues were causing problems not only with us but with the Home Owner?s Association and our neighbors.
After receiving our letter of June 14, 2014, Mr. Nabors came out the next day and agreed there was a problem. The two foot drop off from the drive way to the ground, after telling us to trust him for several months, Mr. Nabors told us was not his problem to fix. He told us at that time he was not responsible for the fencing since he had to add fill for a job we had asked about but had not received a quote on nor told him to do. He had gone ahead and put additional fill in the area, without consulting us and now told us he was exchanging the fill for the fencing in our contract. He said he would bring in a bobcat to fix the issue about the flooding. This did not happen until August 8, 2014 after we had water in our garage for over 3 months! Nabors Construction did not provide the bobcat to correct the drainage problems as agreed. We were just very fortunate the sub-contractor was a good enough person to do his best with the backhoe he had. We've paid an additional $1500 to fix the terracing beside the garage due to lack of planning by Nabors Construction which has left about a foot drop off. We finally received the detailed billing of the job on October, a full 5 months after the garage was built. Mr. Nabors did not have time to finish our job but he had time to move on to other work. We would not use Nabors Construction again nor would we recommend the company.

Johnny Nabors? key phrase is ?Do what you have to do to make the customer happy.? We heard it many times during our remodel. From ripping out the piece of bathroom tile that was a little greyer than the rest, to replacing some wall structure so that towel racks could hang exactly straight, to the day when (to everyone?s dismay) we found mold and rot behind the bathroom wall, to the situation with the flooring boards that were not color randomized as much as we would like. In that last case, we decided that it was not worth having his team tear up the floor to rearrange the boards, but the important thing is that Johnny was willing to do it. No remodel job is without problems, but peace of mind comes from working with a contractor whom you trust.

His team is courteous, timely, clean, flexible and creative.

We selected Johnny Nabors mostly because of a recommendation from friends, but also because he spent a lot of time and effort on refining our quote. His price was the middle of the three we obtained, with the other two being gold plated high and suspiciously low.

We feel that we got a beautiful brand new house (on the inside) for a reasonable cost. We will be calling on Johnny Nabors again.

They showed up when expected and worked the entire time they were here. I was a little disappointed in the effort to protect furniture and flooring when spraying texture for the walls. They were a bit messy. We had a problem with one of the cabinet doors coming off the hinge within a few weeks. But once we talked to the office, they came out and did what we asked in a very timely manner. We would certainly use them again.
Fantastic! I have used John Nabors for my business as well, remodeling, installing fixtures, etc. He is HONEST. Good pricing, looks ahead for different ways to save money, ways to do remodeling that make the most sense. Always lets you know the schedule, doesn't over promise; realistic. Then, once he has given you an estimate and time schedule--sticks to it. I plan on using him again.
He quoted us the price. He wasn't the cheapest, but hands down but he definitely said he is the best and he is absolutely is the best. He makes sure we are completely satisfied before he finishes anything and I have actually had him paint couple of things because we were not here during all the construction he understood and he did that and he has been wonderful to work with. His construction team has been very polite. They are very professional. They are great. You are fortunate to get him to do the work because he is very busy and you couldn't get a better contractor. He has got job after job waiting for him to be finished so he can go to the next. They cleaned up themselves afterwards. I have no complaints about price after seeing the quality of the work. I would only use him again in the future.

I did use Nabors Contracting — Johnny On The Spot. Everything went just fine. I used them one and called them the second time and the bid was too high for me. The first time they did a great job. They came out and they did a great job. The second time I just wasn't prepared for the quote that he gave me so I didn't do it. The second time also he was Johnny On The Spot, and great and I couldn't use him. I wasn't prepared for what it was going to cost so I just didn't do it. I was very happy with the service the first time. The first time the quality of the work was great. The first time if he himself had done the work it would have been great. I would want to use him in the future, not necessarily the guy he sent out here, only because I think that Johnny's work is exemplary, but the worker he sent out here wasn't Johnny. Johnny is the owner of the business and cares about his name and Johnny does novel work. The guy that he sent out here is a good guy and he does competitive work but he doesn't do the same quality in my opinion as Johnny would. It worked, but it is just not Johnny's work. There is no way in the world that I want to hurt Johnny. He does an excellent job. I would even give him an 'A' on everything if it was going to hurt him because he was great. I am just saying that I wasn't ready to pay that kind of money because what he did was fair. It was fair. I thought it was going to be about 500 dollars and it turned out to be 1500 dollars and it was fair. I just thought that it was going to be less so I just wasn’t ready.
