Services Provided in 2016 and Neighborhood Garage Door Service of Seattle is the same as Discount Garage Door Repairs, LLC.

We were in the process of converting our carport to a garage. We found a great garage door at a salvage store and began looking to see who/how the door would be installed. The job was a bit tricky because it’s on a five inch slope and would need either a large piece of rubber seal or trailer/custom panel to keep critters out. I reached out to Discount Garage Services and set the expectation it was a challenging job. They assured me they had all the parts on the truck, could install it with no problem and I would not need to purchase a new door. I proceed to book an appointment with them.

Due to delays in framing the carport with our contractor, I had to cancel my appointment with Discount Garage Services. They confirmed the appointment was cancelled. On the day of the cancelled appointment, they showed up anyways. I checked with my contractor and he said if they were able to perform work, it would be okay and he’d work around that. I also double checked with the DGS installers to see if my third party door would work. The lead said it would with either rubber seal or a trailer panel, no problem. They began the installation. During the installation, I discovered that the non-lead was not employed at DGS. He ended up in the hospital from stepping on at nail at my property. They should not have people who are not employed with them shadowing jobs. The garage door install was complete for the exception of: trailer panel/rubber, side and top trim/sealing, key pad and garage door opener. The lead said he would return with rubber bottom sealing, sides and trim. We had agreed that I would purchase the garage door opener because they wanted $800 and it was $300 on Amazon, plus they would only charge ~$150 to install the garage door opener.

The lead showed up at my house unauthorized and had no appointment scheduled, furthermore, I was out of town. He installed the sides/top sealing, and the garage door opener without my permission. The rubber for the bottom was not possible to install due to whatever reason and he was in the process of getting a trailer panel quote. I was enraged because someone showed up at my property when I was not home, installed a garage door opener ($800!) and when I returned the trim had poor miters, was mis-cut, not long enough, had rust running down the new $150 trim because of not using galvanized nails and was sagging in the middle. I worked it out with DGS that they would only charge me the cost of the Amazon garage door opener plus $150 install fee and cost of trim. I didn’t see trim was so poor until I returned from vacation

I waited to get a call about the trailer panel and at that point I would educate on the job poorly done and need for replacement side/upper trim. DGS never called with a quote. These are the events that happened following:

1. I called to have the trim replaced and trailer panel, and key pad installed, I was told trailer panel was in warehouse and lead would bring all things requested and installed.

2. Same lead showed up with key pad, no trim and no trailer panel. Key pad was installed.

3. I called to rebook for trim and trailer panel, I was told an associate would come out and measure for trailer panel because lead no longer worked there and would come out with trim.

4. They called me back to reconfirm and claimed someone from their company called me and spoke with me which they never did. They claimed I wanted a free key pad, this was not true. It must be the long list of angry people who are upset with their services.

5. New lead showed up (very polite), no trim (good greif!) and measured for trailer panel. After calls back and forth with corporate, Lead finally advised they don’t do trailer panels on third party doors! I spoke with management on his cell and asked for the following, either find me a trailer panel or apply all the money I have spent for the installation to the purchase of a new garage door as had I known it would not have worked, I would have purchased a new door. I told this to CS and the original lead. I set great expectations, they did not. During this call, I was transferred three times, put on hold and advised that this was “above their paygrade.” No accountability, no decision makers, no proactive follow up on their behalf.

6. Lead showed up next day with appointment booked and installed trim thus far to my liking (it’s only been one day though…).

7. Called on 04/14 (issue now going on for 3+ months) told I would get a call back within an hour, I never got a called.

8. Showed up at Seattle downtown headquarters (address listed on invoice and Angie's List) I was advised that this company moved out in 2013. The property management company advised they will be issuing them a cease and desist letter.

Next Steps:

- I have left this review and would reconsider this review and next steps if they fulfill my above request of crediting payments towards purchase of new garage door, or find me a trailer panel. They need to take accountability and quit blaming the fact it's a third party door. If they don't have educated personnel, they shouldn't be in business or doing third party door installs.

- I will contact:

o BBB

o File a complaint against their Business License

o Call Angie’s List

o Dispute my Credit Card charges

Your Next Steps:

Never hire a business who has less than an A Rating on Angie’s List because they are always bad.
