The two carpenters did excellent work. The owner, Frank Sullivan, was highly responsive to our needs. We were impressed by the professionalism of the entire team. We would hire them again, and recommend them strongly.

Excellent.  Frank Sullivan and his crew came as scheduled, did great installation and left our home broom clean.  Frank genuinely cares about doing the best job possible and presented options and advice.  I heartily endorse Newton Exteriors. <br />

Frank has a couple of great carpenters working for him and this review is really about them. I didn't love his subcontractors (plumber and electrician). <br /> The building dates from the 1880s. The roof leaks, nothing is square, etc. One project was removing the baseboard heat to replace with forced air from the existing A/C ducts. This then required cutting a million little pieces of oak to patch where the baseboard had been. Somehow they did this without charging too much and it looks pretty good. <br /> The overall price was about half of what S&H Construction (a bigger company) quoted. I don't think the work was inferior in any way. <br /> Frank's guys also fixed a slate roof leak that occurred during their time. A mason hired by the condo association went up to the roof to fix a leak around the chimney. So of course he kicked a few slates loose (the 125-year-old copper nails are corroded so any walking on the roof incurs this risk).  Then it was raining indoors. Rich, the lead carpenter, is also a skilled roofer and he got up there and fixed it very quickly for minimal dollars. <br />

<p>Frank is great.   I had three very old windows replaced in the Back Bay of Boston.  I had to jump through a lot of hoops  with the  City regarding historical guidelines and Frank stuck with me.   His guys were on time, polite, and couldn't  be nicer.  The New windows were painted before installation.    Old security bars were removed and disposed of.   The old rotted window frames were replaced.  The new  windows look great.     I will be replacing an old door next.   Definitely using Frank.  </p> <p><br /></p> <br />

Work was done on schedule, on budget, and very professionally.  Price was fair.  I would definitely recommend Newton Exteriors. <br />

I was able to get in contact with Frank Sullivan on a holiday, and he came out to see the problem the same day.  He is truly a nice person and is very easy to work with.  His crew did a very nice job.  There was some small debris to clean up, but they hauled away all the big stuff, and cleaned up the interior porch space.  The quality of the work was quite good.  The porch has an old wood ceiling that I wanted to match, and he did a good job matching it.  It is impossible to get the same size boards, but with the stain and finish (did this myself), the repair is unnoticeable.  He has done several replacement windows and doors for us in the past, and I would definitely hire him for another project!  Terrific! <br />

I was researching various types of gutter cover or guard systems to install at our home to end the gutter cleaning.  Our home is in a very wooded area in central Mass. and the gutters required several cleanings a year.  I had gotten an estimate on the popular Leaf Guard system and  the price for 60 feet of the product was prohibitive. I continued my search and found a product that I thought would be the one for us - Gutter Glove.  The contractor mentioned in the ad was Newton Exteriors.  I placed a call to the number and Frank Sullivan, the owner, answered my call. This was on a Friday afternoon. He was very personable and explained his product and how it worked in detail.  I asked if he could come to Holland Mass. to give me an estimate.  Holland is nearly an hour's ride from West Newton but Frank was very willing to come the distance.  He even came on a Sunday to look at my gutter needs! I contracted Newton Exteriors to do the job and paid a small deposit.  Frank called me the next day to keep me informed of the timetable of the delivery of the product to his shop and again a few days later when the product came in.  He made an appointment to install the gutter system for 2 days after it was delivered to him!  He called me the day of the installation to explain the time of arrival of his crew and couldn't have been more informative or supportive.  Frank gave me top notch customer service.  His crew arrived as promised, on time and were 2 very pleasant workers who also were willing to answer all my questions with a smile.   They were in an out in a short time and picked up every piece of scrap material! I was very happy with the installation.  I had a few questions regarding the installation later that day and Frank was very understanding regarding my inquiry and even sent his crew back the next day to re-adjust one of the gutter cover pieces.  I would recommend this company for their services, and quality workmanship,whether it be window installations or remodels or gutter service.  Frank Sullivan will provide the kind of customer service that will make dealing with Newton Exteriors a pleasure. <br />

We moved into this 1880's South End garden unit a year ago and dealt with extremely drafty downstairs windows and ill fitting windows etc upstairs. Frank and his team were very responsive and gave us lots of advice even for the dumb questions. It went very well. Very punctual and top quality materials used. Took 2.5 days install and there was an immediate and noticeable improvement in our living conditions. The drafts are gone and the house is much brighter all round. <br /> Frank came back out twice personally to address two very minor issues  - so minor they must have been a pain in the butt for him - but he never questioned it (removal of stickers form a window we couldnt reach, and assitance in removing a screen). We will be replacing the front  door over the next couple of months and we will definitely be using Newton Exteriors. <br />

We received top-quality products and services at fair and competitive prices. Just as importantly, Newton exteriors was polite and attentive to our ideas/concerns. Their workmanship is top-notch.

I sent Frank and email, he met us at our house and we selected the doors and windows.  After they were delivered (special order, so one door took a couple weeks), his crew installed them.  He came to the house to give them instructions and address any of our concerns.  The whole job was finished within about a month of meeting with him.  We are happy with the quality and installation.   Frank excels at customer service.  During the last project, he brought over some tomatoes from his garden.  This time, I had given him a spare key on a keychain that had great sentimental value to me.  I had not told him that, but later emailed him.  He went out of his way to find the keychain and bring it over.  That is good customer service. <br />

Frank was very quick to reply to my initial email inquiring about having the work done. He gave me a rough estimate over the phone and came to my house on a Sunday to do an official on-site estimate. Along with the written estimate, we received an detailed verbal overview of how we would handle the contract and payment schedule, as well as a specific timeline for ordering materials and performing the installation. <br /> Throughout the entire process, Frank was always available by phone, text or email to answer any questions we had and to keep us up-to-date on where we were in the process, and he was always very courteous and polite in all of his communications. We signed the contract. materials were ordered and delivered and the work was scheduled and performed almost exactly as Frank had explained to us during the on-site estimate. <br /> I am giving Newton Exteriors an overall grade of an "A" for this review. There are  only two categories that I have marked as a "B" or "GOOD". The first being the price, which I thought was just a little high considering my gutters are a very simple set-up, but when figuring in the quality of the product and the workmanship, I do think the price was still very good, or a strong "B". The other is in the professionalism category, due to the <em>only</em> issue we had throughout the entire experience which boiled down to a minor oversight and miscommunication of some contract specifications as to the level of product being installed. When the issue arose, Frank was very quick to respond to it and we worked it out very quickly and easily. I will say that the overall level of professionalism was very good, or another strong "B". <br /> This was certainly an overall positive experience and I would recommend Newton Exteriors to anyone looking for the services that they provide.  <br /> <br />

It went extremely well. Frank worked hard to undertsand what I wanted, and worked with his vendors to come up with solutions that provided the quality I wanted in the most cost effective fashion - also taking into account material availability and the effect on project timing. Frank communicated with me throughout the process, updating me on where things stood with the vendors throughout the quoting and ordering process. He and his team went in and did the work when no one was home. Nothing in the home was disturbed, and everything was imacculately clean each night after they left. No work-in-progress effect. They took care of minor problems outside the scope of what I had asked them to work on at no extra charge. Overall, they did what they said they would do and more. I will definitely use them again in the future. <br />

This is my second time around with Newton Exteriors and the experience was again very positive.  Frank Sullivan is very courteous, and busy, and despite a little phone tag got back to me in less than a week and gave me a rough estimate.  The rough estimate was fine, because he was not sure what he would find once he started opening up the gutters and railing system.  Luckily no ugly surprises and the work went very fast and the quality was very good.  His crew was juggling us and another project, but they finished the entire job in 3 days, which surprised us. <br /> One of the things I like about Frank is he does what you want, and he doesn't try to sell you more service than what you need; he just gives you the options.  Additionally his judgment is excellent:  I explained we had a water problem in the front of our foundation, even after we installed a new sump pump.  Frank pointed out the lousy original installation of the gutters allowed water to seep down the front of the house.  However, he also had the idea to tilt the front gutter the opposite direction from where it had been emptying.  This allowed more effective run-off, and it was also the side of the house where the sump pump is stationed.  Genius!  We just had about 4" of rain in 3 hours and there's a lake in the backyard, but the basement's dry. <br /> The deck looks great, the gutters work better than ever before, and as they were cleaning up they power washed the fence, side of the house and discolored portions of the front sidewalk. No doubt we'll invite Newton Exteriors back for future work.

The more I looked at it the more I see that they did wrong. Nothing fits correctly or lines up the right way. If they would have used the right wire the first time I wouldn't have had to hire my electrician a second time and they weren't willing to pay for me having to have the electrician come out twice. Also, I talked to Chromolects and they said the only reason why the wire would be defected is from water damage or from kinks which could not have been damage that we caused. I haven't found anyone that will come to seal the gutters because there is a wire going through them. So, now I have to live with having gutters that drip.

Frank and his skilled crew fixed a very long standing problem at our historic condo building (an 1890's mansion that was converted into condos), and did it with professionalism, patience, great skill/workmanship, for a great price and is just generally a really good guy, ethical, hardworking and honest. I can't praise him or his company highly enough. We had leaking windows and siding, even after replacement (window replacement was done by another company -wish we had gone with Frank then!!), which we couldn't seem to get fixed properly. The other vendors had given us estimates that were way out of our price range ($6000 - $10,000!). Frank gave us a very reasonable estimate, was extremely patient in explaining every detail of the project to me, and where he was getting the estimate, what materials he wanted to use and why, etc. I ask a lot of questions and he always had time for me. He came and did the entire project in one day, which is nothing short of a miracle considering the amount of work that needed to be done! He got it done way ahead of schedule (he had had a cancellation and knew how desperate we were to get this fixed so he came and did our job as soon as he could). We have had driving wind storms and not a single leak since Frank completed the work. He did a great job, is a pleasure to work with, and very trustworthy; I would hire him for any job, anywhere, anytime. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Frank, the proprietor, was personable, efficient, and in communication on a regular basis as the various phases of the work progressed.  The cost of the windows themselves was a bit higher than some of the other estimates, but the window quality was excellent as was the installation.  The installation team was polite, flexible, and worked hard!

Newton Exteriors did an excellent job replacing my broken window.  They returned my call same day.  We scheduled an appointment just a few days later.  They showed up on schedule and quickly replaced the window.  Their work was thorough, precise, and clean.  I would not hesitate to use Newton Exteriors on additional work at my house or recommend them to others.
