10 of 10. Great company. Delivered what they promised. Best price with quality work. Did entire driveway in one day with large portion excavated. Was nearly half the price of three competitors who provided less guarantee for their work. Will hire to do walkways and backyard. If you fail to look at this company you will throw money away and be frustrated. A+ business.

Jonathan George, owner of Northern Asphalt, went far beyond what I expected in repairing my driveway and serious drainage issue that was undermining my driveway. I highly recommend him to anyone wanting a quality job.

It was okay. it was okay but it didn't fully fixed the problem that I had.

"This was a seal job not a new pave job I put 2 coats on driveway it had cracks in the driveway only way to get rid of cracks is to remove and replace driveway that would cost more then what you paid for to have 2 cost of seal in the driveway I do not perform miracles with seal jobs seal is only cosmetic the review says paving and job has the same problem. I agree because we only sealed the driveway if it would be a repaving job it would have been perfect. If you want I can replace entire driveway and discount you on what you already paid I can take the $325 off your driveway which would leave you at 2675 remove and repave your driveway. Let me know and the msg for your review"

We hired this company for a driveway reasphalt, grading in one area and sealing and repair in another. A grade of asphalt was promised on the estimate which was not used. (We have large pieces (a lower grade) and the pieces are crumbling off the driveway. The grading was ok but the work is inferior quality. We also had some repair work. The materials were not used as quoted on the estiamte. When we complained we were told they don't the professional product anymore to seal the cracks, even thou it was on my quote. After less than a year we have grass growing through the repair work all along the driveway. My neighbors comment on the bad workmanship. We went with the lowest bid. We should have known when the bid was much lower than other A rated Angie List comapnies that we were getting D workmanship. We made several calls giving them an opportunity to correct the work. Nothing was done to correct the work. The verbal response was unprofessional. We will never use them and they are on our neighborhood do not use list.

"My number is 7035932234 that’s the only number I have since I started my busisness. You have me mixed up with another company I don’t recall charging you this amount of money for a seal job. Only And also cracks are not guaranteed I can’t guarantee or warranty something already broke that’s nonsense. Sealing is not a replacement for your old driveway that needed whole thing redone sealing doesn’t replace new pavement you had no problem with the job when I was finished and you gladly paid me and was happy now over a year later you say I’m not returning your calls I never received any because I ask reviews from my customers. I don’t know what’s wrong. But i remember you saying you only wanted to seal the front part of the driveway which was not of interest to repave. Cracks are never guaranteed no paving company will guarantee a crack on a old asphalt driveway what needs replaced. If you have had a problem with your job you shouldn’t of paid me when I was finished because I never do bad jobs. And I don’t appreciate you trying to badmouth me and ruin my busisness and make me seem like a bad contractor I’m fourth generation in my family. I don’t agree with you if you want your driveway fixed you should of called me I would of taken care of it it doesn’t cost me anything to fix a crack or broken area. I didn’t pave that driveway where it is broke I also didn’t charge you for crack filling if I didn’t reccomend hot tar because hot tar sticks to shoes and tires and isn’t reccomended in driveways my number is always there you want me fix that one area let me know call me my number 703-593-2234. You need to repave your whole driveway if you want it perfect because crack filler is only temporary they will always open up again. Especially on a broken area on a old driveway. Seal is more for cosmetic purposes when your driveway gets old. Like yours. I want you to call me And I’ll make you happy but I want you read your contract cracks are never guaranteed and seal is a wear item. Especially oil based seal it is more of a treatment that penetrates so basically I didn’t do you a bad job your just a little confused. If you want that one area saw cut and removed and patched. That would make it look better. I can offer you that let me know I have been on angielist for a while you could of message me or call me or text me. Hope you try and contact me 703-593-2234. Would gladly help you Personal Driveway paving=$6,500 Pipe stem or shared driveway with neighbor area needed redone only has been sealed=$1,500 Customer didn’t want to repave old shared part"

Very Professional. They came on time and ready to work, and they finished the same day. They do an outstanding work, and they are very reasonable on cost. His team was able to take out my old cracked up, asphalt driveway and put in the new one and extend my driveway. Before they leave they did an excellent work cleaning up. Outstanding work, great customer service. We are really happy with our new driveway. I highly recommended to anyone who needs any paving done.

I needed to get my backyard done and my boyfriend recommended his friend Johnny George from Northern Virginia asphalt. My boyfriend informed me he was very professional and very good at what he does. When I originally spoke with Johnny via telephone, all I wanted was to lay some gravel down in the entire backyard which he quoted me $1500 for and I thought was fair. He kept saying since I was his friend's girlfriend he would look out for me and give me a discount. After meeting with Johnny and him taking a look at my property he upsold me and told me that he could do the following: • Put 2x2s at the bottom of my left fence and seal it with cement so a large gap that was present would be filled and the gravel would not go into the neighbor’s yard. • Level the yard so water would run down and away from the house. • Lay gravel all over the areas where the bricks did not touch. • Make a grey horizontal stone patio out of left over materials he had from a previous project at a discounted price. • Spray paint a concrete slab in front of the door a dark grey to match the grey stone patio. • Properly dispose of all unwanted materials. • Use existing red bricks I had wanted to be taken up and could make a walk path out of those which would connect to the grey stone patio and lead out to the back gate. • Make a threshold on the back gate. He told me he would install the grey patio going horizontal from one fence across to the other. He said it would cost me $4,000 dollars with a $2,600 down payment. I thought this was a WONDERFUL idea and the price was great, so I agreed and thanked him multiple times, I was extremely excited. My boyfriend and I asked if he wanted us to draw him up blue plans for this project after speaking so we could stick to our agreed upon design. Johnny declined stating the project was small and he did not need one. I drafted a contract for both of us to sign since it was such a large project and he declined that as well and did not sign it. I trusted his word since he was the professional, a friend and I had no experience in this field. He called me the day before the project would start and informed me to leave the back gate open so he and his team could get back there to work while I was at work. I agreed and thought it was great and said thank you. I was so excited to see the work when I got home. Upon arriving I was immediately upset! The entire layout we agreed to was different. Instead of one horizontal grey patio Johnny took it upon himself to make two small patios going vertically against one side of one fence. One patio was made of the grey bricks and instead of making a red bricked pathway, he made a red patio in front of the grey patio. He also used 5 of these very ugly light brown brick slabs I wanted gone and cemented them down making an awkward pathway that only goes half way thru the yard. He also made a very sloppy threshold and now my back gate does not close because cement is protruding out. Johnny never reached out to me or my boyfriend and informed us of changing the layout, he did not inform me about not having enough materials, and he just decided to make changes on his own without my knowledge. I spoke to Johnny in a very polite manner and let him know this is not what we agreed upon nor what I envisioned it would look like and I did not like it. He proceeded to say he knew it was not but, there were not enough grey bricks to make a horizontal patio and there was not enough red bricks to make a path way. He told me to trust him, that he is experienced and it will be nice. I said ok hesitantly, I did not want to argue or cause any friction between him and my boyfriend so I thanked him for the work done so far and walked away very worried. The job started on April 23rd 2017 and ended April 24th 2017. He told me he had to hurry up since he had a large church parking lot job to get started on. I paid Johnny the remaining money and chatted a bit with him in my front yard. I shook his hand and said thank you for everything. After Johnny left my home I thoroughly reviewed his work and I broke down crying! I HATED it. Johnny did not level the yard, he did not gravel everywhere and in some areas there was not enough gravel, the 2x2s were not long enough at the bottom of the fence and a large whole in the corner was left open, there was no gravel to the left backside of the yard at all, the grey slab he spray painted started to chip, he informed me there was not enough red bricks to make a path way yet I noticed Johnny threw a LOT of my red bricks down into a creek I had behind my back gate. If I did not have enough bricks for a pathway, then why were there close to 100 bricks thrown down in the creek. He also threw black planters I had told him I no longer wanted down into the creek along with a blue tarp that was mine. He left the plastic he laid down before laying the gravel down exposed and noticeable, he did not trim the plastic at all. My boyfriend reached out to him calling him, texting him and messaging him on social media and Johnny did not respond for days. I asked Johnny for an itemized list of cost for materials and labor for my records and he never responded; before the project started I asked for pictures of the grey bricks and never received it. When Johnny finally responded to my boyfriend, Johnny told my boyfriend that no one wanted to spend money on this project and I was being cheap. He also stated I never said thank you or appreciated his work, he said that I was aggressive. None of this was true, I thanked Johnny even when I shouldn’t have, the original project was only going to cost me $1500 and I spent an additional $2500 because I fell in love with the original plans Johnny told me he could do. But, regardless of this Johnny NEVER reached out to anyone about changing plans or even expressing he was short on materials. If he would have communicated he was short on materials I would have had no problem spending a little more on the project. In fact, I had to go out and buy 6 bags of gravel from Homedepot and lay the remaining gravel myself, I had to cut the exposed plastic and go down into the creek to get my tarp. Everything about Johnny George and this project was HIGHLY unprofessional and unwanted. I was going to use him again to touch up my front yard but, after all of this I won’t even recommend him to anyone. It has taken me a long time to write a review because I really do not like to speak ill about people even when I am done wrong but, this past weekend I notice bricks are shifting and the middle of the patio has sunken in slightly. I am getting upset all over again; issues from this project keep arising. Johnny did not keep his word on what he would do, he was not responsive after the fact and I felt he completely rushed the job so he could start another. Not a smart business move because now there is a very unhappy client that will let people know to stay clear of his work. In fact my neighbors requested his information but, I told them what happened and they quickly said never mind. I understand I am at fault also here in some ways like, I should have: 1. Never paid the remaining balance if I was not happy. 2. I should have made Johnny do the layout as originally discussed no matter if bricks were already laid. 3. Never trusted his word because he was a “friend”. Or cared about causing friction in a friendship because this was business and my home. 4. Done this review way earlier. Hindsight is 20/20 and I will NEVER allow this type of situation to happen again. I just needed people to know so they can avoid using him and making the same mistake I did.

"Northern Virginia asphalt is not responsible for these unsatisfied customers.N.V.A. Completed and has been paid by customers if job was not complete why did they pay after we packed up and completed the job? If customer wants something changed it has to be done when the crew members are out there working not 7 months down the road.the contract was fulfilled and we completed what it said.the price of the 3 day labor intense job was $4000 customers boyfriend/roommate was a friend of mine. I did job as favor regardless if they payed for the labor and material which is fair for a 3 day labor intense job which included removing weeds, grass, dirt, broken bricks.installing 15 ton of gravel by wheel barrel Down hill and up hill and installing brick pavers that I provided and the customer had bricks out there that we salvaged they weren't the nicest we did the best we could with them. On Friday October 27,2017 I went to house and tried to fix their complaints.which insisted of installing a few 50 pounds bags of gravel and removing all the pavers and walkway throwing the clay bricks away and me buying more grey bricks like the ones I provided because they are upset they spent the money and want more work done for FREE. I tried to fix the problem I removed 10 garbage broken bricks that were threw in the woods behind their town house. And a few steel plant holder poles for hanging flower pots on.customer wanted me to sign their contract and didn't want to sing my contract. Northern Virginia asphalt doesn't sign customers contract. I went and tried to fix that but customer was not cooperative and there is nothing I could do if she wasn't satisfied should of not paid for job until it's done her way not 6+ months after job is done customer is lying when she said 100 bricks threw down the creek. The Customer Is impossible to please and lying. Jonathan George is a kick boxer and I go to a certain gym and the customer boyfriend got kicked out of gym and this is their way of trying to get back at me. Please don't believe their lies. There's a lot of unprofessional problems with client and customer. Bottom line is I completed and got paid off contract that was signed if they want it changed around they have to pay for rearranging yard. Everything installed is high quality professional product they can keep their review up it will help me if I have any other problems like this. I can use them as a example Also there was no specific ific blue print of the small job that can very easily be arranged in about 2 days I tried my best. Did what I could Nothing is free and only 10 bricks that were piled up neat fell down hill."

This was a disaster from start to finish. Although Jonathan was quite pleasant in the beginning, he failed to follow through on every aspect of this job, including scheduling, replies to messages, and the actual work agreed to. We were initially scheduled to have the work completed the week of 3 October 2016. No one showed up the entire week. After repeated calls, Jonathan and his father stated they would be doing the work on the 7th. They didn't actually arrive until the 10th. They also DID NOT schedule/request utility marking. So when the crew began work on the 10th, they soon hit and cut both ours and our neighbors Verizon fiberoptic line. My neighbor told us she came out, because her internet was out, and the crew just shrugged their shoulders and were rude to her. They cleared much further than the agreed upon distance on the one side of the driveway, and nothing on the other side. They damaged a tree, clearing all the way to the trunk, when they should have stopped 4 feet away from it. They then trenched our driveway at the top, nearest the house, and installed the drain pipe...now at the wrong end of the driveway. Seeing how water runs downhill, and the ponding occurs at the far end of the drive, this was completely useless to us. The drain for the water was also in the same area that they had not cleared, which was supposed to be paved. All of these details were discussed with Jonathan prior to the work beginning. We were not home at the time of this initial work. The job was also not complete, the ground only cleared and driveway trenched in wrong area, no pavement, and Jonathan and his crew disappeared. We called Verizon and scheduled the repair of the line for ours and neighbors property. Verizon came the same day and installed a temporary line. I spoke with Jonathan on the phone the following day, and he assured me they would be back the next day to fix everything. Then nothing for the next three days. No phone calls answered, no messages returned, no communication, text messages with no reply (although I know he read them because my phone showed "Read"), and our driveway is a total mess. Finally, Friday, the 14th, they show up. A Verizon tech happened to also be there, doing some additional work for the permanent repair. He informed Jonathan that they could drive over the temporary line, but not to bury it in the asphalt. So you can guess now what happened...The crew went to work, and when they laid the asphalt, they buried the temporary line, destroying it AGAIN. Yes, our new neighbors were really pleased to have their fiber cut on a FRIDAY afternoon!! The actual work completed, was mediocre at best. They were not careful at the walk-thru door portion of our garage, which was in the newly extended area, and paved too high. So when this door was opened later, there was not enough clearance, and we had to scrape asphalt off the top of that area to open it. They also paved over the bottom edge of our siding, which will be a real mess to clean up when we reside the house. They left our cul-de-sac, shared with our neighbors, a terrible mess, chunks of asphalt and dirt everywhere. I asked Jonathan, prior to paying him, about how Verizon was going to be paid for repairing the damage. He stated to me that Verizon would not bill us, that they do these repairs without charge. And if they did ask for payment, to contact him. Well of course Verizon wanted to be paid, $738.05 to be exact. I called Jonathan upon receiving the bill, and he said to mail it to them, that they would take care of it, so I did. Then the Verizon claims office called me, I provided Northern Virginia Asphalt's information to them, including the phone numbers and address. Now it is December, I again receive another bill from Verizon claims, and I contact Jonathan. He now is incredibly rude to me and informs me that the damage is our responsibility, that it says so in the contract. He's right, it does, in the fine print on the back, which we did not see until after the damage was done. Regardless, the fact is, he and his crew directly went against what the Verizon tech told them personally...to NOT bury the temporary line. Jonathan also did not contact Miss Utility to have the utilities marked. Every other contractor we have ever had to our house, has had the utilities marked first. Never were we asked to do it by Jonathan. In our opinion, Northern Virginia Asphalt bears the responsibility for at least part, if not all, of the damage claim. But as the homeowners, we are now stuck paying the claim. I would never hire this company again.

Jonathon did a great job, and hustled to come out ahead of time to make sure I got exactly the service I needed. I wanted the three, full width cracks hot sealed, something the fly-by-night providers cannot/will not do. I wanted proper sealant, not the watered down "paint" the fly-by night providers use. He power-washed the entire driveway, sealed the cracks professionally, and placed the thick, asphalt-based sealant that will be good for several years, all for an exceedingly reasonable price. He did the work on one of the hottest days of the summer, and yet the coating looks good, with minimal brush marks that will soon vanish. I will call him again in a few years when next I need the driveway treated. Folks - spend the money to get your driveway sealed properly. The "paint" the cheap driveway sealers use is cosmetic only; it does not protect your investment...

Jonathan and his team were fantastic, and best price. Job very professionally done with high quality, long-term materials. Jonathan's team put down top soil I purchased to cover areas that needed grass reseeding. Team didn't leave until I was completely satisfied. Completed job within two weeks of signing contract. Jonathan visited and gave me estimate within one day of calling. All of my neighbors who share pipe stem were also very satisfied, especially the tie-in to their driveways.

Very responsive.  Jonathan and I talked on the phone a couple of times to work out the schedule.  He is very friendly and professional.  We settled on the date, and he showed up on time.  Before performing the work he confirmed with me his earlier recommendation to do the re-sealing instead of re-paving.  He performed the work quickly, and it looks great.  Re-sealing a driveway isn't the kind of thing you do frequently, but years down the road when it's time to do it again, I'll consider this company.
