My experience working with North Star Construction was top-notch. Mica, my primary contact through the project, was great to work with. It was nice to get progress status updates and detailed photos from her via email almost daily. Communication was good. They were responsive, professional, and the work they did looks really sharp. Final cost turned out to be more than estimated due to some rot discovered during the job, but I would certainly recommend NSC to anyone needing a quality re-roofing.

I was very happy with their work. This was one of many jobs they did over the preceding year. This one was  about a two week time period. I spoke with them every day. The fact that there were no surprises was the most important thing. They cleaned up completely. You would not have known they were there.

North Star did great work. Scheduling was the only problem, because we had to wait until one of his longer projects finished ahead of time, so that he could squeeze us in at the end of the work week. It took a while for that to happen, but the job wasn't urgent, so it was fine to wait. Now the garage roof is better than ever--no leaks.

Russ had originally put on a new roof and gutters back in Feb 2008. He did a fantastic job at a very competitive price. I'm kind of a high maintenance gal and he was great answering all my questions and doing everything just how I wanted it.  I already referred him to a neighbor and he has been equally happy.  Both roofs have held up great.   Since than I had some remodeling done on my house which included two new bathrooms, a kitchen, and new plumbing.  It involved adding some vents to the roof.  Needless to say the general contractor didn't do a great job on the roof vents and it was compromised as a result.  After a few big rains I knew I needed to call Russ.  I emailed him and he came out within the week and fixed everything properly.  So happy for the quick response and willingness to fix someone else's mistake.  Thank you Russ! <br />

<p>After installation I saw that some of the caps could have been straighter, but let it go.  Since this install I have incurred 5 different leaks.  The first 3 were corrected but after that the company is no longer in business, leaving me with 2 leaks.  Currently in communication with their insurance company as they were bonded, however they can't locate the owner which is holding up the process.</p> <br />

Russ was wonderful to work with.  Very responsive, competitively priced, and was quick to service any future needs I had.  I have recommended him to several of my neighbors and friends. <br />

They did a fine job on our house. I didn't like that some of the young guys would drop stuff where they were and then they would forget them. The leak stopped, but that wasn't a major problem. I can't really come up with a whole lot that we didn't like. The roof looks gorgeous. I like the size of the carport because we had it made a lot longer. We had a covered area out there. It's very substantial and well put together. The young guys put one of the posts in the wrong place, so I made them move it to where it's supposed to be. They didn't argue with me; they put in a new one. We live in a mobile home. The roofing that we had put on our mobile home, which is an older one, is PVC stuff. It's white. Certain people come out and put it on. I don't know who they were; I just know that the contractor said that they had to come out and put it on. It didn't take long. I would tell others that they do a good job and that they should just watch the young guys. There were a few minor things that were misdone but corrected. The price was pretty good. The roof we put on was very expensive, and we knew that before we had that put on instead of another kind. I didn't think their price was out of control. With regard to punctuality, they had to control their hours. They wanted to start earlier in the morning than they are allowed to start here. It wasn't early in the morning. They get started and then they wanted to keep working. The manager came down and told them that they had to stop at a certain time. Then they did that. They were always here plenty of time.

The team was professional, clean, and did a great job on the roof. I would recommend and use them again. <br />

I believe North Star Roofing and Construction changed ownership sometime in the last few years or there are two companies with the same name, or something else is going on. I Googled Russ Oja who I always dealt with and found him on Linked In as the former owner. I looked on the Land I site <br /> https://secure.lni.wa.gov/verify/Detail.aspx?UBI=602086881and LIC=NORTHSR994KUand SAW= <br /> and found that Russ' license lapsed on 6/10/2012. So the North Star Roofing and Construction company that I dealt with is no more. Furthermore I see no North Star Roofing in Seattle listed on the Land I site. <br /> I am writing this because Angie's List asked for a review. I'm not sure what I clicked or wrote that made them aware of my prior use of North Star. The North Star I used was addressed on Mukilteo Speedway in Lynwood. The North Star that Angie's List has prompted me to review is at 815 1st Ave in Seattle. <br />

They did an excellent job! Shakes were high quality and looks good year later! Cleaned yard every day <br />

Came out quickly, gave a number of options on how to repair with a recommendation and did the job for a very competitive price. Great experience and I will be using them again for a roof cleaning this fall. <br />

Quality. Russ is a true craftsman. He takes pride in his work and stand behind the product 100%. My wife and I have bought two houses in the past 12 years, both requiring new roofs. Russ replaced both, one in 2002 and the other 2011. His attention to detail was fantastic and he kept us informed regarding all aspects of the project. He provided honest input based on years of experience...and I am glad we listened to his advice. Both roofs were completed quickly and with perfect results. <br />

Russ is the owner. He has actually done a budget product for me in the past. He keeps me so well informed that it is almost annoying. Of all the contractors and service people I have ever worked with, he has constant contact with me and tells me everything that is going on so I never have to wonder what is happening.

Russ came to my home, checked the roof condition, completed a quote which included several options. He explained the differences of each quote and let me decide what would work best foe me. He answered all my questtions satisfactorily. Once we had agreed on which option and the price he scheduled the job. His roofers were there on time. They were professional and completed the job on time. It was a pleasure doing business with this firm and I would recommend them to anyone.

He installed a flat PVC roof. The roof leaked. He could not find the cause of the roof leak. He informed me he would be filing bankruptcy. He kindly opened up an insurance claim for me and I was compensated for the amount of the damage in my home. I must now install a new PVC roof one year later.

I contacted the owner Russ Oja to review my project and quickly received an estimate that I considered very reasonable. He was very informative and helpful in defining the scope of work and offering suggestions. During the roof removal process, Russ' team uncovered some areas of the roof that started to decay. Those areas were immediately taken care of to prevent any further problems. In 3 1/2 days, Russ' crew completed the work in a professional manner and produced results that were well received and well within the estimate. I would not hesitate in recommending the team of North Star Construction to anyone wishing to replace their roof or gutter system who has a high degree of expectations.

Russ, the owner, was very responsive and communicated very well over email and telephone. In fact, due to my schedule (not his) I've never even actually met Russ. Russ came by the house at a time I wasn't avaiable (I work downtown Seattle and would have had to take time off work) and then provided an estimate along with a detailed statement of work. His estimate was a bit lower than another and I decided to go with Russ. <br /> <br /> The work was scheduled for a Friday (at my request) and his crew showed up and completed the job that day. All demo of previous gutter was completed and hauled away; I think I found one nail and who knows if it was from the gutters. <br /> <br /> Russ came out to do a quality control check and abided my request not to actually enter the property at that time since my husband had just gotten off an overnight shift and the dog would have started barking. <br /> <br /> Oddly, it hasn't rained very hard since the install, at least while I've been home. I have not seen any leaks at the corners. <br /> <br /> Thanks.

Russ Oja (the owner) was very professional and thorough. He went over every aspect of the project in detail, and made sure we understood everything before signing the contract. Once we decided to go with NorthStar, he was very prompt in answering our questions via email and telephone. The men he sent to do the work did a great job and were very conscientious, cleaning each evening before they left, etc. Russ came by most days to check the progress. The entire job took only four days, and our new roof looks great! We would highly recommend NorthStar Construction to anyone needing roofing or other services!

From the initial meeting to the final wrap-up Russ, the owner, was one of the most responsive and professional contractors I've used in my twenty years of home-ownership. His attention to customer service is awesome, the roof work great, and his assistance with revising a section of gutter helped me solve a long-standing problem. All-in-all the work and customer service was tops. I will definitely use North Star again for other projects.

We were using them for the first time. They were timely and very professional. They explained everything they did and cleaned up well. They gave me good options as far as quality and materials offered went. My interaction with them was good. I was pleased with their price. I have nothing but positive things to say about them. We would definitely use them again.

We love our new roof and had complete confidence in Russ and his crew from start to finish. I interviewed a couple of other larger companies which seemed perfectly capable, but I chose Russ and his company because it seemed more personal. There was none of that getting lost in the system, trying to find your foreman and waiting for people to call you back. Russ answers every call in a timely manner and truly cares about the job. He'll be there for the initial assessment/estimate, and he'll be at your house everyday to check on the work and make sure you're happy. You can't go wrong with Russ and North Star. He operates with a crew of only 2 or 3 people on a job, which initially didn't sound like enough to me. Boy was I wrong....these guys worked so well together, so efficiently and in such a way that they're really all you need. I think you get more consistant application that way with fewer hands doing the work. They were a pleasure to have around while they were here.....nice, funny guys. We ran into a few snags along the way, which is usually the case, but Russ handled everything with grace and professionalism. I wouldn't hesitate to use North Star again!

Went great. Russ (the owner) was very attentive from start to finish and was very prompt in answering questions and informing me of all the options. He was a pleasure to work with: very attentive but never pushy. I got the feeling he really cared about the business and my satisfaction. The bidding process was very smooth. Installation took about a week and it happened within the time frame Russ had promised. They were very clean while working and cleaned up quite well after the job was done. We love the new roof. I've had it for almost 5 years now and it still looks great. I had one instance when I wanted Russ to look at something in the roof a few years after it was installed so I called him on a Sunday to see when he can send someone to look over it. To my surprise, he sent someone within a few hours on the Sunday and had it taken care of. Overall, I am really impressed with the great service Russ provided us. I keep recommending him. I wish other contractors I worked with had the same enthusiasm and ethics.

I called 4 different companies for estimates. North Star Roofing was the first to provide a bid and their bid was the most detailed, most competitive and provided different options, including different material types, protective under-layment and increasing the size of the existing gutters from 2 inch to 3 inch - no other company did this. Each of the options had separate price which allowed me to customize what I wanted done. The other bids I received were more money and did not itemize. The owner Russ is very easy to work with, and provides meaning to the word "Project Manager" since that is what he did by contacting me and letting me know what was happening before the job started, what to expect when it did start and he provided excellent follow through on the job completion. I don't normally give this kind of customer feedback but Russ deserves it and his company will help raise the bar for the industry!
