It was fine. It was good. They did what they were supposed to do. There was an additional cost of maybe $100-150 more because they had more things to do. They sent me a note and I needed to give them a credit card. They let me know first before doing it. It looked good. I wasn't there when they arrived. I had talked to them about it over the phone but they didn't correct him while he was there so it was not his fault, it was their fault. It was next to another fence that was already there. It was actually a gate and a partial fence that they were putting up and I wanted it to match the other one and instead of putting a gap between the boards like it looked on the fence that they were joining it. They stacked them right next to each other so you can't see through it. The garage door turned out fine. There was no problem. I got what I expected and paid for. It was as expected. My parents indicated that they don't move like lightning. Their price was fair.

He wasn't punctual. He came for only one hour. I would not hire him again. He took a lot of time and we ended up paying a lot of money. When i complained to Angie's list, he didn't refund my money. I think he changed the name of the company. Price was okay.

I purchased a Big Deal for $275 for 6 hours of handyman service. I asked him to install a glass shower door in my master bath. He ended up chipping the tub while installing this and then claimed he didn't do it. He cut the support to the shower door an inch too short. When I pointed it out to him, he said he knew he did it and he was going to have order a replacement. He never did, he said it wasn't available. I went to Home Depot and ordered it myself and had a friend install it.

I've worked in psychiatry for a number of years and this young man has a form of autism and that is Asperger is what he has got. In a couple of areas he didn't know what to do. He broke something and I told him not to worry about it and that I would fix it because it was on the outside. He means well and I commend him for trying to work. When we got done everything was done excepting for the one broken plastic part. There were no additional charges beyond the big deal amount of $275. His heart was really in the right place but he may have been a little in over his head. The price was fine. He was late because he is a single father and something went wrong with his little kids and they were calling him from school. He was professional. He was definitely there to please me. That was for sure.

The first time he came out he was to secure the tongue and groove panels that were above my front door, which were starting to fall. We also talked about installation of paneling in my bathroom, to be done at a later time. Despite the coupon deal saying the hours had to be used the same day, he was aware this was to be done at another time. He "supposedly" secured all my boards, then left.
Several months later one of the boards starting to fall and fall quite severely. I contacted him and it took him several days to respond, but he at least did respond. When he came out, he was not prepared. Since the board, at this point, could not be flushly secured like the other boards, it was decided it was best to remove the board then nail it back up. He then told me he didn't have enough finish nails to secure anything else. How does a carpenter not have nails? Also, after speaking with others more recently, they all said this board could have been shaved in such a way that would have made it lay flush with the other boards. All said it was very simple. Why didn't he bring this up or better yet, why didn't he do this? I paid for 6 hours and he only used up maybe 1 hour total. But remember, he didn't have enough nails and I'm going to assume had no tools with him. So now the board is up, but it sticks out. The quality of this job looks like an amateur, not someone who is supposed to be an actual carpenter.
Josh showed up and did the work after we had several rounds of e-mail tag. Scheduling took a while, but once it was set, Josh came in and did the work to my satisfaction. Clean up and haul away too.
This is a tough one. I found Josh through a "Big Deal" coupon.
Josh was quite late (hours, but called) for the committed time. When he got to my house, he behaved oddly, like he had had way too much coffee, but he was very personable and the work he did was fantastic. He worked hard and was very careful and conscientious, ensuring every piece was cut to exactly the right length, all the seams and corners were right and he even coped the intersection between the kitchen and living room trim. I had also asked him to frame out a ceiling hatch in the downstairs bathroom but, due to arriving late, he ran out of time and said he would do it for no charge (even if the total of the baseboard and it exceeded the 6 hours purchased) for my trouble.
He was great on the baseboard, obviously appreciative of the work and I liked him, so I asked him to give me a bid on a bathroom remodel I was considering. A few days later, we set up an appointment for the next Sunday. About 1/2 hour after he was scheduled to arrive, a woman called and said he was running behind. At around two hours late he called saying his truck had broken down and he needed to fix it. We set another appointment for the next evening.
I was still at work at the appointed time, so I called my wife and asked her to walk him through what we wanted done. My two late-teenage sons were home and I only work 5 minutes from home so I wasn't concerned in any way. About a half-hour later, I received a call from my wife. She said he had arrived, but was only marginally coherent and smelled, looked and acted "stoned". She said she didn't think he was in a state to do the walkthrough and remember it. I asked if she felt threatened or afraid. She said no, but she thought he should leave so she was going to tell him I couldn't make it and we'd need to reschedule.
I want to be clear that he did not give her any problem at any time and left immediately. Needless to say, I did not call to reschedule.
I won't speculate on the behavior or its cause except to comment that Josh seems to be a very likeable and capable carpenter/handyman with some personal issues that I hope he can work out. He's a great guy and does good work when he shows up.
There were no extra charges beyond the big deal amount. The most important thing for me wasn't really executed all that well. I had my oven and microwave, it's one of those built into the wall. It's at your hip level and up. It's the oven and then the microwave above it. Well, it burnt down and I had to replace and put a new one in. They're more compact than they were then, especially the microwaves are not as big and take up less space. So there was this big gap in the wall, in the cabinetry. I needed the space covered and it was about a nine inch opening. I had a piece of wood that actually met my cabinetry color. It was the same type of wood and the same type of stain. It came from a completely different product but it just was perfect. A good carpenter would have said, "Well, wait a minute. I've got to round the edge of that piece to match the drawers underneath." He did the job. I mean, he nailed it in and covered the space but that wasn't that high-end which a professional would have said, "Jeez" You could actually make it look better if you do that. As soon as he left I was thinking, "God! I should have had him pull out a rounder and kind of beveled the edge a little bit just so it matched the drawers a little better" That was a little bit of a drawback. He was totally responsive. I think he was professional.

We hired Josh as part of an Angie's list deal for a day of handyman work to finish some minor carpentry work at an old house we were prepping for sale. There was some unfinished work in the bathroom, putting beadboard up on the walls. Josh talked to my wife about what she wanted done, but a few things went wrong with the job:
1. Work was never finished. Josh said the materials were not there, but they were.
2. He put the boards up without staining them first (stain was there as well). Now some of the boards are extremely hard to access, and required removing the toilet and vanity to stain.
3. Quality of the work was extremely poor. The boards were all cut too short, so there was a gap between the top of the beadboard (where there is a horizontal trim piece) and the ceiling. We had to hire somebody else to fix this.
4. My key to the house that I loaned him was not left behind or returned.
We paid him not only for the day of work with the Angie's list deal, but for additional time. Very irritating that not only was the job not completed, but was done so badly we had to pay someone else to have it redone.
Josh is a nice guy who is a little unorganized. We had to reschedule multiple times due to problems with his truck and other issues. He was very flexible with timing and offered to do some work for free because of the hassles. His work appeared good at the time but since then I have had towel racks pull out of the wall due to no anchors being used in the dry wall. I would probably not hire him again simply because I didn't feel he was dependable and his work is only fair.
Purchased Angies List Big Deal. Purchased the deal October 2012, and after a few reschedules had the contractor set to perform the work on a date in December. The requested job was to re-hang a drafty door, and add flashing to the deck under that same door. He arrived late and did not remember any specifics about the job to be performed that day - even though I had provided a detailed description and pictures prior. Additionally did not have the proper tools to perform the job and needed to borrow one of my saws to cut some wood.
Put forth some effort to re-hang the door, but after pulling trim did not even consider adding new insulation, and the door is only moderately less drafty. At which point took a look at the deck. Did not have any tooling to bend the flashing I had on hand and decided that the way my deck was attached should be handled through some custom flashing. At which point he said he would need to order it and it would not be available for a few days. I stated I would not be open to any additional charges for this plan and we agreed there would be no additional charges aside from the part.
After a couple of weeks of hearing nothing, I emailed him to find out the situation and then accepted a scheduled date for the following week or so. A few days before the scheduled date he cancelled and said he would need to reschedule. After another few weeks I again requested follow up, now more than 2 months past the original work date. At which point, he schedules a time to complete the work, and then sends an email the night before stating there would be additional charges for the 2nd visit.
Considering this a final stopping point, I notified AngiesList that the contractor has not acted professional through this whole project and it was my impression that he had no real intent of finishing the job, and that I will be pursuing a refund claim for half of the six hours paid for.
I accepted the bid of NW by NE to remove a bathtub, toilet, walls and floor, and replace with a shower stall, toilet, and walls / floor with both paint and tile. I did not expect he would provide a ?perfect? job, but would perform a job that was ?better than average?.
My project was scheduled to start August 13. Although Josh sent a note confirming his arrival approx 10:00, he arrived in late afternoon, measuring the standard tub, and then leaving. He did not come to my project on the 14th. On the 15th at 2:30 I sent an e-mail telling him it was too late to start. This complete lack of schedule was to follow the entire project. I was told my project was to take one week; I expected two. In the end, it took six weeks.
Josh did a good job installing a window, the wallboard and subfloor and finishing the plaster. He also did a reasonable job with installing tile on the floor and wall, and painting the remaining area. Cleanup of the tile after grouting the shower was a disappointment, with dried epoxy grout on the surface of the tile. A major problem was that the order the individual tasks were performed seemed based on what he had time for rather than the proper sequence. In the end, he painted after grouting the tile, leaving paint sloughed onto the grout.
We had agreed he would schedule a plumber to install the drain and shower fixtures, and he would handle the rest of the remodel. Before the end, I took over the installation of the fan/light unit, including the ducting in the attic. I painted the outside framing for the window. After taking a truckload of debris to the dump, I am still removing splatters of thin set, plaster, paint, and epoxy from around my house.
It was near the end of my big deal and I was worried that Josh wouldn't ocme, But Angie's List people located him and we set up a time. Josh had truck trouble, child care problems and time comittments so it took three days to use up the time. (Either I owe him 45 minutes or he owes me (unclear). He was supposed to returnand call, but didn't. He hasn't answered calls, etc., I wish him well, but I wish he had finished what I need. He did patch the hold in the ceiling left by the previous contractor, so I can't fault him too much. I just wish I didn't have the Gustav Klimt covering all the holes in the wall and I wish the rack were on the wall. Instead one portion is on the wall a lonely/ lonereminder to what could have been.
NWXNE Carpentry had a perfect solution to the broken seal on my sliding glass door. It took two visits - one to determine if the seal could be fixed and then the next day to repair the seal. Each visit he was promt and pleasant. His solution was perfect! I will use him again.
