Bid was fair for both jobs. They showed up when they said they would (8 Feb), but only completed the flashing portion of the job. It began sprinkling and was not ideal to repair the cap, even though Neil had told me when he came by to give me an estimate that they can erect a cover if it's raining to protect the cap. I was told by the guy who fixed the flashing I would be contacted on 19 Feb. (a Sunday!) to schedule the chimney cap work. I received the following email on Sunday 19 Feb: "We are possibly looking at 1-2 days of decent weather at the end of the week. We have some leak repair jobs that have been building up because of the weather so those obviously are carrying a higher priority right now. We will touch base next Sunday. We appreciate your patience." I confess to being annoyed at this delay - feeling like we'd been blown off. My response: "Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed at delaying getting the work done, especially when you now tell me you're going to contact me next Sunday to schedule a date. You were here on 8 Feb. and completed only one portion of the job. I understand the weather is a factor, but now, buy the time you plan to contact me next week to schedule a date (you previously told me you'd contact me today to schedule a date to complete the job) it will have been 18 days since you were here. Is water seeping into our place through our defective concrete chimney crown? You know, I always wonder what it means when people say something along the lines of "we appreciate your patience." I thought I had been patient waiting 11 days for you to contact me to schedule a date. Now a delay of another week just to schedule. My patience is worn pretty thin at this point." Perhaps my expectations are a little higher than most, I don't know. But late on 19 Feb. (Sunday) I received the following from them after sending my above reply: "we took care of your greatest risk of water entry, the chimney and roof metal. Your crown is a much lower risk, this is why your job has been pushed back. Because of all the rain recently there has come up many active leaks that have a higher priority. I cannot even gaurantee we can get to you in the next 3 weeks, with the way things are currently going. It is obvious to me we are not going to be able to make you happy. I am removing you off our call list." My final response: "Shame on you. I'm guessing The Chimney Guys have so much business you can afford to be rude to your customers. I find it difficult to believe you didn't know days ago there was going to be a problem scheduling the work to be done on our place. And rather than contact me once you knew there was going to be a problem (a phone call would have been the professional way to handle it), you blew me off with no apology and expected a meaningless phrase ("We appreciate your patience") to suffice. My review of your company will be reflected in my review on Angie's List." So here we are on Angie's List. As I indicated in the ratings above, the quoted price seemed fair. The work on the flashing was satisfactory. However, because of the unacceptable communication (not calling when they had scheduling problems) , punctuality (not scheduling on 19 Feb when they would finish the job as they said they would), and professionalism (dropping a customer [me] because I was miffed at feeling like I'd been blown off, and calling them out for using a meaningless phrase ("We appreciate your patience.")) demonstrates to me a lack of consideration for their customers. And while we're at it, doesn't the phrase "We appreciate your patience" from a company imply some consideration will be given because they were unable to meet their commitment? So am I miffed - you bet. I will never recommend Oregon Chimney Guys because of the way the conduct themselves!

Excellent. They arrived on time, and laid down tarps to keep the carpets clean. They swept the chimney and cleaned out the fireplace, and made it ready for winter.

They were on time and efficient. I asked if they would pull the dryer out to check that vent (the hose is around 10 feet long) and they said they did, but I don't think they did. Were here for about 15 minutes, seemed like a lot of money for a fairly easy and quick job.

What a great crew! They arrived at 7AM sharp, were very polite and professional and cleaned up thoroughly when they finished. Neal Box, owner, runs a very tight ship. He explained the job clearly and made sure all ran smoothly. The city inspector gave me a "thumbs up" and my new chimney looks really beautiful. I couldn't be happier with Oregon Chimney Guys. Highly recommend!

He showed up on-time (actually a bit early). Immediately set up tarps in order to keep the area clean. Got to work quickly. I was so comfortable with the job that he did, I asked if he could come back another day & do the other side of my duplex. He agreed. He was there the next day with parts & got everything taken care of - without even needing me there. He billed me for the 2nd job - didn't require payment then & there. Great guy. Great service. Great job.

They came about a half-hour late, but did the cleaning and inspection well, as far as I could tell.  They were efficient and courteous.  The only bug in their professionalism was one good puff of ash they accidentally let blow into the living room; no big deal, but it surprised me.  Most of the time they contained the ash well in the fireplace or in their vacuum (which was understandably noisy).  They protected everything around the fireplace with drop cloths and swept up after themselves.  They went up on the chimney with their own ladders.  At the end, they described what they found and made a few recommendations, one of which we plan to take:  They recommended we get a permanent fixture installed on the roof for $20 to which future workers working on the roof can tie themselves (per OSHA requirements).  They didn't have the supplies on hand to do that during this visit, though.
