It went great. Rick was super responsive and had a quick turnaround throughout the whole process. He was very accommodating when we decided to switch paint colors part way through the process. We really liked that they were able to start within a week of deciding to move forward, and that they completed the project quickly. Everyone was very professional and showed up like clockwork each day. Overall, we were really happy with the work, the price, and the timeline.

They did a great job and did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. The only small negative is that they do not remove any switch plates or wall outlets, they just paint around them. Other than that they did a great job. This is the second time I hired them and I would hire them again

Everthing went very well. The work was estimated to take two days. To my surprise it was finished in one day. The rooms look so beautiful.

Rick and his crew were awesome! They arrived on time, did exactly what they said they were going to do, and the price was incredibly reasonable. Rick was super friendly and courteous, and the crew all arrived with smiles on their faces, ready to work. Rick either showed up or called each day to make sure everything was going well, and he clearly communicated with me about the progress and completion of the job. I will no doubt hire Rick and his amazing crew for any future job! Thanks so much, Rick!

Fantastic. Very friendly group, and very honest. Jane passed on any new instructions during the job. I was impressed by the wall paper removal and the painting afterwards. The double checked on some of the instructions to make sure they understood, and the place looked like a million bucks afterwards. They were neat and found no drips on the floors afterwards. Corners were neat without the usual collecting of paint pools. Windows were properly scraped clean.

Here is my factual review to explain why I gave Painting by Rick and Company a grade of C here on Angie’s List. *Rick was very professional and pleasant when giving the estimate for painting my entire 1500ft condo. I chose only 2 colors with the majority of the home being ONE neutral color. I chose him because his was a local family business, had many years of experience, & was listed as an Angie’s List Super Service Award Winner. He told me that the job would take 2 days. I asked him again when he showed up with the crew for the actual beginning of the job and he said again that it would only take 2 days with no problems. *Rick’s business card states that he is licensed and insured. He has a business license for Clarke County Virginia, and no contractor’s grade license. Rick is adequately insured via Erie Insurance. *The crew of 3 people showed up on time the first day with Rick to explain work to be done. The crew lead was bilingual so I felt at ease knowing I could communicate with them. Let me say that there was absolutely NOTHING that they had to do except mask and paint. ALL furniture was moved to the center of the rooms and covered for them. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS PAINT!!!. Nonetheless, they seemed to have a shortage of tarps. I had to repeatedly remind workers to keep the carpet protected while they were working and had to move tarps around myself to protect my floors. They had to clean paint drops out of my carpet on 3 separate occasions, and then only because I pointed that out to them.*The first day went well with the foyer, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom done with 2 coats, and the living room/dining room area started with 1 coat of paint. The problem was….in the contract I stated I wanted Sherwin Williams Super Paint (more expensive) and they instead used Sherwin Williams ProMar 200 which is less expensive and eco friendly. When I told Rick this he apologized and said he must have confused me with another customer that day. That was it. He didn’t offer to refund the price difference per gallon, which to me isn’t the point. The point is that he gave me the wrong paint, he did NOTHING to try to compensate for the mistake.*The second day was a waste of everyone’s time, energy, and resources with 4 people this time! They had to keep redoing the edges of two accent walls where the two different paint colors met. Nothing complicated, just four wall edges in total for the home. They either let the paint dry too much, or taped over wet paint so that when they took the tapes off it peeled the paint off. This happened repeatedly throughout the day. I had to point out places that needed touch up in the one bathroom from the previous day (and now 3 weeks later I have noticed other missed places in that bathroom that need touchups!) I pretty much stayed out of their way the 2nd day, even leaving the home for hours at a time because... like I said all they had to do was PAINT.

The building is 3 story wood frame located in the Leesburg historical district. After scraping the wood and prepping for painting, it was discovered that some of the trim had to be repaired. All repairs were made and I am very happy with the entire job which was done at a very reasonable price. I will have Rick paint my house later this year.

The crew arrived when expected and promptly started working. The supervisor on-site was responsive and kept things moving along and made sure clean up each day was thorough. Prep work included power washing, carpentry, sanding, and caulking. They stained the log portion of our house, and painted all of the siding, trim, metal roof and wrought iron railing. Our house now looks wonderful!
Rick was very prompt when scheduling the estimate and the day of the work. He was easy to get ahold of and returned calls promptly. The crew was very professional and did high quality work. They cleaned up at the end of each day and let us know what they would be doing.
We had 4 men come to the house. I had purchased high quality paint with primer so we were able to just do one coat on our walls. Because we only had to do one coat, we ended up getting more areas of the home finished than we originally expected so we were very pleased with that. The painters mostly kept to themselves and worked quietly. I was happy with the outcome.

We wanted to have the interior of our new home painted. The builder's white paint had to go. Therefore the call to Rick.
He got back to me quickly and came to the house for an estimate. The price was reasonable for the amount of work that was going to be done. The crew was there bright and early each morning. They were easy to work with, careful with moving the furniture and covering the painting area. Very pleased with the end results, rooms were beautiful. Will call Rick and Company again for our painting projects.
I am very pleased with the outcome of the services provided by Rick and his team. I had multiple requirements in need of immediate attention. Not only did Rick meet and exceed my expectations - he provided me with expert advice on how to approach each facet of the project. In short, I would recommend contacting Rick for his quality of service, supporting a great local business, and dealing with a hands-on professional.
Rick and his team were very professional and prompt. Rick provided a fair labor price, along with an excellent price on the paint. The painting team was very prompt, professional, very neat, and friendly. I was amazed at the speed and quality of their work. The team did a professional, top quality, job all in under a day. They are just good folks to work with. After 30 years of DIY painting I have finally figured it out, hire a professional, Painting by Rick.
I am an older female who hired Paintings by Rick to replace rotted wood trim, then paint the trim, shutters, and the EIFS siding on our home. Also, the owner of the adjoining home lives out of state and asked for my help to find a contractor for similar work on his home. Paintings by Rick had glowing reviews on Angie's List and his estimate was very good so he was hired to work on both homes. First, I have to say that the painting crew was always respectful and pleasant to interact with but I felt they could have benefited from an occasional visit from Rick to be sure things were being done correctly. Also, Rick became less receptive to concerns or complaints when issues came up. Years of customer service experience has taught me that just saying "I'm sorry" or "I will look into the issue" goes a long way for customer relations. Generally this was not the response I received.
Work began initially on the neighbor's home on a Friday. When the crew wrapped up for the weekend they left a large pile of rotted trim with nails protruding on the lawn (spilling into another neighbor's lawn), they left the wood fascia board off the entire length of the home leaving areas of open access to the attic, and rather than lay the vinyl shutters flat on the ground they were leaned against the chimney and had acquired quite a bend in the stack after leaning in that position. I emailed Rick on the weekend pointing out these issues to him and asked that this not happen when work began on our home. Instead of acknowledging these were issues he tried to justify them. His crew did not repeat these practices when working on our home but this was the beginning of several disappointing interactions with Rick. As work progressed and other issues came up on our homes, the relationship with Rick became poorer.
In the end I do believe that the workers did a good job but communications was always very poor on when to expect workers and the job was approached in a very disorganized way so it was never clear where they were in the process. I never knew when I would have to be home to have windows and doors open until they arrived in the morning. In the end the work stretched over several weeks for a modest sized home. Our past experience has been that this work was completed much more quickly with a smaller crew.
Sadly, I have to say I would not recommend Painting by Rick to others. Even the person renting the adjoining home has asked where I am posting my comments because he had several serious issues when the work was being done on that home and he wants to share his negative experience. I think in the end the price was good and the work appears to be good but there were just too many hassles reaching completion.

Response from Painting by Rick & Company
"Alot of bad info here. 1) your job was $5,140.00 not $8,000.00 2) You are exaggerating on all accounts. 3) the smearing on your window glass was from window glazing, an oil based product which stays oily and "wet" for some time. 4) Lets not forget that you were out of town and therefor we had to wait for you to return to clean the windows and paint the door. And last but certainly not least we did and do stand by our work. The bottom line is you simply cant please everyone. It is really frustrating that the consumer can get on hear and smear us as they wish, right or wrong, and I, the contractor can do nothing about it."

First I'd like to give Rick a lot of credit, as the owner he was extremely responsive and responded promptly to any calls or emails we sent.
We hired Rick based off of the reviews on Angie's List. We needed our kitchen and living room ceiling and walls painted, along with some crown molding to be installed in the living room. While most of the job was done well, there were a few issues that caused some concern for me.
1. My wife and I left a few large items in the family room (entertainment center and our sectional). My wife and I had everything prepped for the crew to start as soon as they arrived (and even hung some plastic ahead of time due to dry-wall work being done in a house with small kids). After an hour or two, it was pointed out to me by our nanny that the sectional wasn't properly covered, which I had instructed them to make sure they did (my wife had bought several packages from Home Depot for them to use). I made it very clear to cover everything. When I walked into the room there was an enormous gap between two pieces of plastic that they had taped together exposing the top of the sectional - which at this point had dry wall dust and little chunks littered all over the sectional inside. I didn't make a big deal out of this, and had some of the crew help us move the sectional out of the room and spent the next 30 minutes cleaning it.
2. Around 8PM that night we received a call from our neighbors behind us that our faucet/hose was running in our back yard and was flooding their yard. From the amount of water that was there, it looked like this had been running for several hours - in addition to the large amount of paint run-off from the crew cleaning stuff. Our neighbors were quite distraught because they were in the final steps of selling their home. Rick took my call at 8:30 or so that night and I had informed him of what happened - he was very apologetic (not his fault), but understood my disappointment of letting water run like that and the fact that i had just laid down seed trying to get the grass to grow in that area from a ground down stump this summer. If our neighbors hadn't informed us of the water, it would have run all night and potentially caused damage to our property and our neighbors.
3. The final straw for me and what made me decide to write this review, was what I discovered during the final walk-through (and have found elsewhere since the job was completed). While doing the final walk-through I discovered multiple drips on the trim, which I confirmed was from this job (paint was still somewhat wet when I chipped it off with my fingers). Most troubling though, was the tape they had left on our trim...and painted over it. I was able to find about a 10-12inch piece during the walk-through...however, since that time I found one other spot that they (painters) left on and simply painted over it. I also spent a few hours having to touch up a lot of spots on the walls that were easy spots to see, corners/edges that had ceiling paint on the walls, and spots that just weren't taken care of near the ceiling lights in the kitchen.
4. I'm not sure if this is the industry standard in interior painting, but when I was hanging some frames on the walls a few days ago I noticed that the top of the molding wasn't painted. Again, I have no idea if this is the "norm"...but another item I found and kinda just shook my head at.
I'm a firm believer in taking pride in the work that you do. Treat every home as if it was your own when it comes to projects like these. Unfortunately I didn't get that feeling with Rick's crew looking at the quality of work that was performed in our home.
