The bloodwork went okay and the texturing looks great. The carpentry work with the door also went great. They hung plastic and covered the floor. We have hardwood floors so was important to make sure they were well covered. They cleaned up after themselves every day and we were able to stay in the house during the entire project. Now the wall looks great and the doors also working fine.
The service provider promised to honor the price of the Big Deal that he was previously offering, $1500 for 40 hours of work. Initially, he charged us the price that we agreed upon. The issue arose when he billed us for the time exceeding the 40 hours, which we had not agreed upon. They have billed us for an additional 27 hours, which they billed as $1592.71. This was not in our contract, and we did not authorize this. The foreman came to work out these issues after we no longer wanted to deal with the contractor himself. The foreman promised to come and finish this work himself at this meeting, but we have yet to see that promise completely fulfilled. They have left this work halfway completed and have not been responsive when we have called. They have left the guard rail off of the stairs, and have not completed pouring the concrete either. My 15 year old had to patch up the stairs just so that our toddler grandson will not injure himself.

This is long, but please read all. We are seniors, my husband is ill, so we hired through Angie's list as we thought it was safe. The person we contracted with, John Blake, of Paladin Remodeling, didn't do the job. After we paid HIM $1,499.00, he hired someone by the name of Dustin, who hired a "carpenter" who had never laid tile before. We were not aware of this until he was halfway into the job. When asked about it, Dustin said he wanted to see what the guy could do! He experimented with us! He made a complete mess of it. When we spoke to John Blake about it, he told us that they should have never put down the larger tiles because they would break. I told him, THAT'S WHY WE HIRED "PROFESSIONALS", and he had told us they were! They continued on with the job they were doing. We didn't know what to do at that point. They had $1,500 of our $. They also asked us to get a gift card at Home Depot, I think it was $800, for supplies. The gift card has "disappeared, with I believe several hundred dollars still on it. They never finished the job, leaving a large hole in the patio leading under the house. The remainder of it was in the garage, half done. Some of the tiles are already cracking. Brown "grout?" is smeared all around, the lighter grout between all of the tiles is cracking and coming out. A horrible mess.

The molding - When John Blake came to get his $, he said they GAVE us the molding. We had not been informed of this. Of course, this must have been some leftover molding, as it did not match what we had in our home. There is a wall in our dining room where you can see the wall under the molding, they did such a poor job.

Tiling in kitchen - grout installed is quite messy.

The payment - Dustin knew the job was so shoddy, he said he would not charge for the last few days they were working. We believed him. Wrong! When John Blake came on June 2, with Dustin, to be paid the additional over the $1,499 we already paid him, he handed us a bill for $2,049.62! I looked at Dustin and recalled his statement. He said absolutely nothing. We proceeded to be abused and finally, my husband said to write the check so they would leave. The job remains undone and it is falling apart.

The final insult is that these pigs used a bucket on the side of the house that I had dirt and all my tulip bulbs in - for a toilet. I had noticed they were going around the side of the house a lot, but thought they were going to their truck that way. It has taken me 2 months to be able to put this into words. We have never been treated so horribly by anyone, and WE MUST WARN OTHERS, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING!!!!!

Overall, it hasn't turned out the way we would have hoped. The guy they sent for the electrical work wasn't very experienced and kept shocking himself throughout the job. He used the wrong gauges and performed the work improperly. We had to hire someone else to fix what he did. We purchased the tile and the tiler showed up and was asking me if I had materials like drywall mud and tools. I thought he should have been prepared to have those items. The job shouldn't have taken longer than 3-4 days. The tiler, Tom, would sometimes show up around 10 and stay til 7. There was one day he didn't even show up. He would take calls on the job and talk to our neighbors. The general contractor came back to fix where the tiler had done things poorly. The general contractor fired the tiler on the 6th day and the job was still not complete at that time. The general contractor, Jon Blake, has been good and our final contact with him will be tonight to discuss pricing. Everything looks good now, but it has taken much longer than expected.

They never gave us a formal bid for the project. Lack of communication is a major problem. They left scrap in the yard, and they want me to pay for it to be hauled away. They also left mounds of dirt in the yard. There's unfinished roofing and exposed flashing on the roof. They dragged this project out for a month. They greatly over-ordered on materials. We had to purchase the material from the supplier for them up front, but we didn't receive all the invoices for the purchased items. They padded hours on the workers; they showed up at odd, staggered hours. We were billed for hours when no one was working. Sometimes they lacked equipment to do the work. They even borrowed my drill at one point. We haven't been able to get off the deck for a month, since the stairway was torn out. They quality of work is okay, but responsiveness is terrible.

I had to call another company in to fix the work that they did. The construction of the actual patio cover was fine, but they made the roofing of the patio flush with my roof, which is a composite roof, and the patio cover is a corrugated plastic material. They tried to flash it, but what they used to flash it was a product that you use to flash windows, which is not supposed to be exposed to sunlight. He said he could come back and fix it easily. I asked him how he was going to get the black asphalt material off, and he said they were going to cut it off and then put the other composite material on. At that point, I did not trust him to fix it because the way he explained he was going to do it did not seem like it was going to seal my roof very well. He also said that he knew the other company that I am having out is going to have to fix the portions where they cut the black material off, and that he would pay for the labor to get that fixed.

The deal was for 40 hours, and the company told me that it should only take about 32-35 hours. They have already gone past 40 hours and they are trying to charge me another $1000. This is after I have already purchased all of the materials upfront.

I had to contact the contractor several times, the first few times to explain what I needed. He must not have written it down because I had to call to remind him about the date we had arranged. A little frustrating, sounded like he wanted people to use the coupon only if they had a larger job to do and my job was barely large enough to bother with.
The worker he sent out was very efficient and courteous and did the job well.
I have been doing a house remodel for over a year. Before I even purchased the review, I called him. I felt his positives outweighed the negatives. I asked if his company could handle the work before I purchased the Big Deal. He said they could. I wanted the 40 hrs. worth of work. In hir orignal email, he said he would call 3 days prior. But, I never got a phone call from him. I explained everything I wanted done within the 40 hrs. He said he was sending the right guys out. He sent a framer out who isn't the right person to do tile work. They weren't even from his company, he contracted them out. He is so busy and overwhelmed that he has hired these others to come in to help. Then, I wait for 2 days for them to finish installing the front door. I'm not going to pay for things I already have. They needed to ask 1st before purchasing new things. Day 2, I am still have no dead bolt on my door because the worker didn't like what he installed. I shouldn't be charged for double hours. Then, I get a call from John Blake and he says 'I have a plumber on the way to your house. A pipe busted while my guys were there working on the shower fixtures and installing everything that needs to be done." Which they weren't even licensed to do. They have a framer in my shower working on my plumbing. He broke a piece. Mr. Blake tells me I have to pay for the plumber. But, the framer shouldn't have been messing with my plumbing. I thought he knew plumbing. I needed work in my shower, not tile work. Why do I have to pay for a plumber when his framer broke my shower. He said I was being childish when I brought this up. I want my money back. I feel it was 100% misrepresented. He spoke with my fiance and said, 'I see you have a lot of work and have alot more work that needs to be done.' From the day two he insulted me, 2 days into the job; I have no respect for this company whatsoever. He never showed up on the job site until after problems arose. No communication throughout the entire 3 days that we were over the 40 hours or that we needed to start a new contract if we wanted to continue to have work done. Then, Dustin calls the other day and says 'I'd like to schedule a meeting to see what my guys did.' I thought he was just coming to check the work. He was an hour late. Tom never came back out to finish the job. Dustin, then hands me a bill. It was for $1536.49 for work over and above the 40 hours. Sixteen hours for 2 people to be here, 2 hours for consultation, also being charged add'l 19 hours for day 2 which was $1000. There were numerous other charges for add'l. hours. While Dustin is in my home yesterday, he casually tries to tell me, 'One of 2 things will happen. One, Mr. Blake will try to work with you or 2-he'll take you to court and he can ask for attorney fees and he will probably win.' I told them to work 40 hours, nothing more. Later, Mr. Blake left a message on our cell phone saying, 'I think you're acting quite self-centered on this whole situation.' He has been the most unprofessional business owner. By far, he is the worst contractor I've dealt with. There was no communication at all. I feel he misrepresented himself. I hired Paladin, not some other company as a subcontractor. That should've been disclosed to me to begin with.

"I'm sorry you were disappointed, Tom was not doing to well that week with a broken rib ad finger. We didn't know he would be cutting doors and simply didn't have the tools for that with him. I do apologize. I was nice of him to allow you to go to the store instead of charging you for s to do it though. Have a beautiful day, John L. Blake"

We purchased our home 4 years ago and one of the items on our fixit wish list was a drop down ladder for our garage attic. John from Paladin was quick to respond to my emails. I sent a few pictures of my garage ceiling and he said his company can help me. He said he would bring all fasteners and we purchased a couple 2x4 he said he may need and the the drop down from our local hardware store. Upon arrival he found he didnt have the correct fasteners. Being on a time crunch for a 4hr job I went and pickerd them up.The install went good and they finished in the 4 hour window so no additional fees were incurred. I guess the only thing I felt uncomfortable with was the conversation afterwards that they really dont make any money off doing these type of one charge jobs. I felt it wasnt very professional.
I have an older home (1946) and needed repairs and sprucing up. I was particularly impressed with the contractor's efforts to keep me fully informed to ensure I understood exactly what was taking place. He also was extremely budget conscious and recommended ways to labor costs, such as packing up the kitchen and bathroom myself so I wasn't spending money for his guys to do it. We shopped together for paint, trim and flooring and he was knowledgeable about quality and price of materials. He steered me from higher priced material in one case and recommended higher quality material in another case. I heard the statement 'we have a problem' three times and in each case, he came up with an effective, inexpensive solution.
Completing all of my projects took about three weeks and he was just as involved with the sub-contractors as he was with his own crew. He inspected the work during and after, and addressed any questions or concerns I had thoroughly and patiently. The projects stayed absolutely on budget and there were no hidden costs or surprises.
The end result is that a serious drainage problem is corrected, the concrete safety hazard is no more, tree limb damage is gone and yard looks great, the kitchen looks better than I could have imagine, I have new cabinet doors on the larger cabinets and the doors on the smaller cabinets now close completely, the hideous wallpaper is out of the bathroom and the walls look terrific.
The quality of all work done was outstanding. The contractor was wonderful to work with (and I've heard lots of stories of modeling and repair nightmares. He was very responsive to phone calls and in person discussions. The price was extremely reasonable. The work was done on time and on budget. I was kept fully informed and engaged.
I would gladly recommend the firm to family and friends for general contracting work, remodeling/renovation, cabinet work, painting and general repairs.
John the owner is very easy to work with. Has great ideas but willing to listen and I had always had the final say of any ideas. I have had John do personal projects at my home.

I been open two years and still have a sign in my window to refer business to Paladin Remodeling.
At the recommendation of another contractor, I hired John to help me with the remodeling of my Father's estate. Initially, I hired him to replace and re-frame french front doors on the house, replace a side door on the garage, rebuild a deck and set of stairs (mostly using wood that I already had, which he was happy to accommodate), and install window sills in the house. John offers competitive pricing and does everything he can to keep costs down. He's reliable, professional, and very flexible. As we progressed through the job, I had issues with other contractors I'd hired to install flooring and paint. More than once, John stopped his own work to assist them with their jobs, putting down new bathroom subflooring and finishing texture work that they couldn't handle. What I appreciated most about John was his clear and frequent communication - - something that I've found lacking in most contractors! From start to finish, John did everything he could to ensure that my remodel was done well and on time. Working with him was like working with an old friend who cared as much about the project as I did, and without a doubt, I'll be working with him again in the future. Thanks, John!

John was refered to me from a friend and was able to come out, bid the job and get the work completed fairly quickly. He showed up when he said he would, did a great job and had everything cleaned up before he left.
