Concrete Patios, Walks & Steps- Install
We recently completed a large, complex backyard project with Paradise Designs and couldn?t be happier. Don worked closely with us from the start to develop the vision and design, patiently incorporating many revisions and providing excellent guidance and responsiveness. Once finalized, Paradise Designs brought in highly professional, hardworking crews for hardscape, trenching, and drainage, all using the right equipment and delivering high-quality work. They coordinated smoothly with numerous other trades and vendors, all of whom commented on how easy Paradise Designs was to work with. Despite weather, permitting, and delivery delays outside their control, communication was always prompt and any issues were resolved quickly and professionally. Pricing was fair and transparent, with increases only due to our own changes. We would absolutely use Paradise Designs again and highly recommend them.

DO NOT TRUST this individual. Dishonest and inconsistent. I accidentally overpaid for service, he said he would return my funds but he did not. Owner Bryan has too many family and interpersonal problems to successfully complete and manage his business.

Everyone associated with this company is very professional, from the girl who answers the phone to the landscape designer to the actual employees who implement the design. They were always courteous and easy to get a hold of. They cleaned up the work site everyday before they left. They were always on time. You can tell that they take pride in their work and want to get the job done right. They were very easy to work with and I would use them again. Our yard looks great and we are very happy with it. <br />

It was a recommendation by our realtor. We were pretty happy with them. I would recommend them. The only thing we weren't happy with is some of the plantings we got, but that was minor. The cement work is really nice. We are really happy with the permanent stuff and the overall design. We had some issues with some of the minor plants. I don’t know necessarily that it's their fault; it's the ground like clay. Their responsiveness was excellent; they were really good that way. They were here when they said they would be. The cement work help up really nice; we haven't had any problems with it at all.

<p>Everything we encountered with Paradise Designs went better than we ever expected! We couldn't have asked for anyone better than the owner, Jeff Garton, and his staff. They did an excellent job and really put up with a lot of changes and questions from both my husband and myself. Very patient, understanding, extremely helpful with assisting us with all decisions, on-time, and did excellent work. We have had so many compliments about our new yard. The house next door and one across the street sold almost immediately after being listed because of work our neighbors did on their houses/yards and because our yard looked fantastic and added to value of houses in the neighborhood. Both prior owners thanked us and loved our new yard as well. The current owners have also expressed that our yard looks fabulous. We couldn't be happier. Everything automated is working perfectly and the circular design Jeff came up with to join the two walkways in the front yard looks absolutely beautiful. Great quality and we are thrilled we went with Paradise Designs. We would recommend them to anyone. If we were not happy with something, they fixed it with no hassles, arguments, or extra charges. Jeff is the BEST and Paradise Designs deserves an A+++++++! We want to thank them for a very "stress free" experience and we apologize for it taking us so long to review the wonderful work they did for us.</p> <br />

I am very happy with the project. Our designer, Paul Daniels, came up with an excellent plant re-using existing pavers and plants to keep costs down as much as possible. He was very creative and and quot;upcycledand quot; some materials we already had while blending in new ones. I could never have come up with such a good design on my own. He is very knowledgeable about plants and selected ones that would do well in our terrible clay soil. <br /> Paul came to the jobsite often to oversee the crew. Everyone was polite, professional, and worked quickly. We had just completed a bathroom remodel which did not go smoothly so I was very nervous but Paradise Designs made the whole process effortless. I am so, so thrilled with my new backyard. We have a sitting area with a chiminea and a lovely dining area. It feels twice as big as before and is so pretty. I used to hate going outside--it felt like a never-ending to-do list but now the first thing I want to do in the morning is sip my coffee and bask in the sun. <br /> On our bathroom remodel, we went the and quot;low-costand quot; route and we are paying the price now for shoddy workmanship. On our backyard we chose Paradise Designs. They were the highest bidder with the best design and let me tell you, it was a bargain. In home remodeling, the cliche and quot;you get what you pay forand quot; is so, so true. Paul was very upfront with us about costs. He told us clearly what it would take to create the space we wanted. He did his best to keep those costs down. <br /> A friend of ours who is an experienced real-estate agent asked us how much we spent. Before I told him, I asked him how much the new landscaping added to the value of our home (he had seen the disaster it was before). He said 20K to 25K! That is double what we invested. So not only did I get a backyard better than I ever dreamed possible in this space but I don't even have to feel guilty for the money I spent. If I ever move, Paradise Designs and Paul Daniels we be doing that backyard too! <br />

I needed to update this review. After the bad review I got a call from Paradise and they came right out. Saying we had a mis-communication. I can understand that, the question became what was going to be done about it. Well that was over a week ago and they have been working with us to resolve our leakage. So far they have done all logical troubleshooting and even found some areas where there were leaks. As of yet we have not resolved the issue completely, the responsiveness has been great. When they say they will be back to check it they come back. They test and keep trying to find this problem. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />My wife and I have grown to respect and value the service they are giving us. <br /> <br />

My existing patio space was inadequate and the poor lighting limited use of the yard at night. I particularly wanted design help to make the entire outdoor space work better and I was very pleased with the design ideas and options provided by Matt (project manager). Work was well coordinated and completed by Paradise employees (electrical, irrigation, hardscape, etc.). They were courteous and professional, and much more knowledgeable than others I have encountered in this business. After completing the initial scope of work and finding the process went well, I decided to have Paradise make some additions to the landscape, and am happy with the results. (It took some time to find the large tree I wanted, but no one pushed to settle for less than the right one.) We have had some ongoing glitches with the lighting plan, but I believe these will be worked out satisfactorily. I would definitely use Paradise in the future, and expect to contact them for tree pruning and seasonal work in the coming year.

I wasn't very happy with the process or the end-result provided by Paradise Designs Inc. After coming to an agreement on the design plan with Jeff, work commenced somewhat slowly. There would be days where nothing was going on, and unless I emailed or called, I wasn't given a heads up on what was going on. I rarely saw Jeff during the project - no one was really keeping tabs on implementation and making sure things were on track. <br /> One of the biggest mistakes happened with the built-in grill area. I explicitly told them I wanted a granite countertop (many times). Somewhere along the communication lines, someone thought that I wanted a concrete countertop. Turned out that they didn't do granite countertops, nor did they have a subcontractor that did granite. They couldn't even give me a referral to someone - so I had to find and hire my own subcontractor to do the granite. In the meantime, a concrete countertop got poured much to my and Jeff's surprise. He said he didn't realize they were ahead of schedule and poured before he had the chance to stop them. My granite guy had to compensate for the already existing concrete countertop and build over it. Before the granite installation, I kept asking Jeff to have someone on the jobsite to coordinate with the granite installer so that the built-in grill could be measured and installed properly. That didn't happen. <br /> Paradise Designs' people did a horrible job at installing the built-in. The doors were improperly installed (they bend metal to make them fit). The grill stuck out at least 1and quot; from the granite, leaving wires and internals exposed. I was told that's how it's supposed to be done. <br /> The other big problem area was an area of our lawn. They didn't install proper drainage and within a week, water was pooling. Even after keeping the water off, the area turned very swampy and eventually started to rot (grass disappeared, mud and black mold took its place). I was told it that my dog was causing it (my dog weighs less than 10 lbs - I could see a horse peeing in the same spot every day causing that kind of damage, but not a small terrier). Nevermind the fact that within the first week, it was obviously a problem (my dog wasnt even allowed onto the area until after a month). <br /> To be fair, they sent someone out at least twice to address the issue - but it was never resolved. In the end, I ended up having to hire another landscape design firm to completely redo the work done - including getting my grill and island doors installed properly. <br /> In the end, the aesthetics of the backyard turned out to be lacklustre (no bang for lots of bucks), I didn't like having to manage the project and hire/coordinate subcontractors on my own, I didn't feel like I was listened to and I ended up having to redo most of the work. <br /> I do credit one of their guys, Tom(?), for making a couple of efforts to troubleshoot and correct the swamp problem.

"First of all, it's interesting that while this work was completed in 2009, this client decides to write about it now in 2012?? This was a very challenging client in that the client would state desires, we would design the elements and they would want to change it, numberous times, which is not normally an issue, but this change of heart continued throughout the entire project. After 3 to 4 re-designs (which they weren't charged for) they ultimately signed a contract which we received on 7/22/09. We started work the following Monday (5 days later). Our demo and utilities crew did the work as scheduled and we had a short break waiting for one our our hardscape crews to finish a previous job, who had requested additional work, which delayed us slightly to this project. In all of our designs and proposals, the BBQ, which was initially requested to be topped in slate, and later changed to concrete, per request, was called out on the plans and proposals to their approvals and signatures. After the fact, the client wanted a granite countertop and asked one of our softscape employees if we did them. That employee doesn't do them or actually know what our hardscape crews are capable of and thus the confusion. Our client quickly located a granite provider for the countertop prior to asking, Jeff, the co-owner and project manager. As the BBQ was faced with stacked ledger stone, which has a very uneven, un-uniform edge and finish, our client wanted to know why the finishes couldn't be flush with the BBQ unit. Not a property of that stone and look which was explained to them prior to installation. The drainage in the back yard was simple adjustments to their existing system to save some contracted cost per requests. It was later determined that the rest of the system, exiting out to the street through the side and front yards was damaged and lacked flow due to roots. This client felt it was our responsibility to repair/replace the entire drainline out of our contract area as our expense. The bottom line is we truly have a desire to please every customer we've dealt with over the last 22 years. Our designers and crews are top notch. We take pride in our work and services and it's evident through our long list of referrals, awards and continued quality business, even through these challenging economic times. Ultimately, it's our mistake in not completely satisfying this customer. We will continue to try our best."

I had two other estimates on suggestions to repair the concrete cracking around my swimming pool. Paradise Designs had the best suggestion. Instead of replacing the concrete around my swimming pool (which was very costy) Jeff had designed a plan to put brick around the parameter and facing of my swimming pool to the point of the crack which matched a large brick planter box next to the pool. He also added more drainage on my decking and replaced a small area of concrete that was uneven. His design suggestion sure saved me a lot and I am very pleased with the results. Jeff was very professional and always pleasant and responded very quickly to any issues that we had. I believe he went out of his way to make sure we were happy.

Paul was in charge of this project. It was complicated because this is a second home and I live out of state so that many decisions were made by phone, thus some mistakes/oversights occurred that might not have happened had I been on site. For example, a beautiful bougainvillia that I had instructed be saved was cut down by a subcontractor. Apparently Paul was not at the site to prevent this. Also, we discussed final treatment of one side of the house over the phone (placing some decorative planters), but when I arrived to see the finished project, this had not been done. Also, it took a lot of negotiating to get him to paint the small patches of the house that were exposed when the wooden structure was removed. One additional disappointment, Paul said he was going to remove some of the brick in the backyard and grow moss in between the remaining brickwork. This didn't happen. If I had been on site, I feel that the job would have gone smoother, but unfortunately corners were cut since I wasn't there. Under these circumstances, however, overall the project went pretty well and the quality of the work that was actually done was very good.

All phases went very well. Jeff Garton was a great designer and project manager. He brought in other managers for their expertise, but everyone was well coordinated. I have been very happy with the results and quality of the work. I am now using them for weekly landscape maintenance also, which is quite superior to the "mow and blow" style of service. I consider prices to be reasonable for this quality of people/service. I highly recommend this service and am thankful to have found it on Angie's List.

"WHEN WE MET WITH THE CLIENT, THEIR LAWN WAS ALREADY BROWN DUE TO POOR IRRIGATION COVERAGE. AFTER REVIEWING THEIR EXISTING SYSTEM, WE GAVE THEM A PROPOSAL TO RECTIFY THEIR SITUATION AND A COURSE OF REFURBISHING TO FOLLOW. THEY DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND THE MONEY TO COMPLETELY UPDATE THEIR IRRIGATION SYSTEM AND ASKED IF WE COULD JUST CHANGE SOME OF THE EXISTING NOZZLES TO IMPROVE COVERAGE. WE SAID IT WOULD HELP, BUT WOULDN'T SOLVE THEIR ISSUES. THEY UNDERSTOOD, WE DID THE WORK TO IMPROVE THEIR EXISTING SYSTEM THE BEST WE COULD, FERTILIZED THE LAWN AND TOLD THEM TO CALL US IF THEY WANTED FURTHER HELP. THEIR FOLLOW-UP PHONE CALLS WERE EXPRESSING THAT THE ENTIRE LAWN WAS NOT IMPROVING WHICH IS WHY WE RECOMMENDING FURTHER IRRIGATION WORK. THEY FELT IT SHOULD BE PERFECT WITH LIMITED EFFORTS AND THUS THE ISSUE."
