I don't know because we never hear from Paragon and nothing has been done on this project. The first person assigned to our job left the company. In less than one year, their replacement left the company. They are poor communicators, as they've never let us know about personnel changes affecting this project, have not communicated on whether there is a replacement project director, and their telephone answering machine is full and not accepting messages, so we have no idea if they are in business, or if they intend to steal the $10,000 deposit.

It went as poorly as anyone could imagine. We met with a sales rep and the owner late in the winter and paid a hefty deposit with the understanding that work would commence this week. The owner missed a follow-up appointment and came to a makeup appointment last Monday with an excuse about how their new scheduling system caused him to miss the earlier appointment. He then told a story about one of his best crew members having potentially career-ending back surgery, which he said forced him to push back our start date by a couple of weeks. Yesterday he sent me an email saying he ceased operations and would file for bankruptcy after a very difficult winter, which obviously wasn't difficult enough to prevent him from taking my money with a false promise of services to be delivered. Of course there's been no reply to my question about what happened to that money yet all of their online presences continue to be up and running as if nothing has happened, so let this serve as a warning post. Tom, if you're reading this, it won't be the last you hear from me.

I hired Paragon a year and a half ago in 2016 to remodel a small galley kitchen and bathroom in a one bedroom in Manhattan. Overall, I thought they did a really nice job and would also have rated them a B+ (like one other rater had suggested) had this rating been available. I enjoyed working with Paul B, and Kyle, and the rest of the crew. They were professional, hard working, and a bunch of good guys. I think their labor pricing was reasonable based on my other comparisons. While I haven't done any remodeling before, I assume there is always some hiccups along the way. Process-wise, I believe there could have been slightly more communication/written organization rather than relying on verbal (e.g., the initial kitchen back splash was tiled staggered though I had asked for it to be stacked. This was easily corrected but it would have brought more comfort had everything been in writing). I also felt the plumber could have been a bit more professional. I had bought a shower system that didn't seem terribly complicated to me but he didn't seem to understand how the system worked, scaring me to thinking that I ordered the wrong parts. Eventually he got it but I was surprised that he wasn't familiar with it. The toilet also wasn't set properly initially on the wax ring so there was some leaking initially with the toilet. That said, they were great at coming back and resetting and fixing the issue per their guarantee. I tend to be a picky customer in all aspects of my life. My bar is pretty high so i did ask them to redo some of the tiling in the bathroom as it wasn't as smooth as I had expected. Again, they did reset it and generally had a good attitude about it. All in all, I liked the folks at Paragon, and appreciated Tom letting me pick the specific material I wanted for the project. I thought the pricing was reasonable, the crew worked hard, and they were fairly responsive to my high bar. And 1+ years out, the renovation is still good with no signs of any problems.

I contracted with Paragon Remodeling Group/Safe Trust roofing for the installation of three security/storm doors, replacement of a gable vent and a minor masonry repair. The job was off to a slow start with multiple concerns involving the installation of the doors (life is never perfect and things don't always go as planned). Tom Hemmerle, the owner of this company, was contacted. He came to our home, inspected the job, assessed the situation and offered definitive solutions. He took this small job as seriously as if it were a large construction project and made it clear to us he would have the it completed in a quality fashion and to our satisfaction, and he did so in a cordial and professional manner. The issues at the onset were more than resolved and our expectations were completely met. We are satisfied homeowners and would not hesitate to call on Paragon Remodeling Group/Safe Trust Roofing for future work. We highly recommend this company. Tom Hemmerle definitely has your back!

I would give a B+ overall grade, but Angie's doesn't offer that. I want to first level set what I think an A is and why it's a B+. I would give an A if everything went perfectly based on my initial expectation. B is they met most of my expectation, and the ones that weren't met, are probably not end of the world issues. C is they just got the bare-bones job done and can check off the checkbox to say they were done. Anything below that is a failure. First, I would start with the sales process. Although they claim they are a no pressure sales org, I would say that is probably technically correct, although not entirely true. The sales guys were nice enough, but you def got a sales vibe from them where they were trying to make the sale (maybe I'm just naturally sensitive to sales ppl). They were responsive to any follow up question I had on the SOW. They provided estimates on when the work would start and end, which I didn't believe since this is not my first time to the dance. Their head construction guy (Paul) came over a few days later to measure out my place, and this guy was fantastic. You could tell he knew what he was talking about and knew what he was doing. I asked about start date, and he let me know the original one was not gonna happen. I'm glad I asked him; however, in my opinion someone should have notified me about this instead of me having to pull this information out of them. Either way I had already set my own expectation, so even though I was annoyed, it wasn't any deal breaker. Just note that whatever estimate you get will probably not be *exactly* right (things happen, but unfortunately in this modern day and age that is an unfortunately reality with all contractors in all industries). Once they started work, Tylor was my Project Manager, and he was also a great guy to work with. He was able to give me the info that I needed, without boring me with all the nitty gritty details. He had people onsite pretty much every day (this was around the holiday season, so I understood people had vacation). The work spanned demoing my kitchen, installing appliances, floors, baseboards, bathroom shower, tiles, vanity install, medicine cabinet install, plumbing, electrical (the guy was even able to snake an additional line from my circuit box to my kitchen), painting, coordinating with my building super & staff (I live in a coop building so there are things like water shut-offs that need to be managed). Overall, everything was great. The few things I think could have been better (and I think this is really mostly feedback to Paragon): 1) Shower floor does not fully slope down to the drain, there is a local minimum in which water sits in and I have to manually push it to the drain. Really annoying after each shower. 2) The shower door is not as level as it should be. 3) I don't think my flooring should have been installed under my kitchen cabinets. After discussing this point with others after the fact, the floors expand and contract with humidity, so they have no room to "breathe" and may cause stress else where. 4) I specified in the contract that electrical outlets should have been installed to NEC spec (i.e. the ground plug on top). They were not :/. With all that said, I would totally recommend Paragon and would use their services again myself. I waited a full year to write the review so as to give their work some time to settle in, and it has done so just fine.

"Dear Mr. [Member Name Removed]: Thank you for the thoughtful feedback and kind review. We are glad your overall experience was a positive one. We are constantly training our sales and production teams and will specifically address the way we estimate job timing to better communicate to our clients that the time between when we write up a work order and the time the production department has a firm timeline for permits, drawings, material selection/availability and a host of other items that affect the successful flow and outcome of any project may have an impact on the actual start and completion dates. In addition we will be in touch to address any remaining items that require adjustment or service. Best Regards, Tom Hemmerle, owner"

The work was done professionally and in a timely manner. My project manager, Mark Malinowski was great to work with. He was always available in the case we had questions and made sure to keep us updated on progress. Going into this we had received quotes from several contractors and Paragon came in the lowest. You would never know that based off the quality of the job they did.

The attic floor was done in a day. The bathroom remodeling took about a week. We had a new bath and tiles put into the upstairs bathroom. They did excellent work with no fuss and no mess! They were clean, quick, efficient, friendly, etc...We love our new bathroom!! We are already thinking of how we can upgrade our kitchen and second bathroom!!

We couldn't have been more pleased. The overall job from inception to completion took a very long time - largely due to the town. Throughout, the folks at Paragon were extremely helpful and professional. Given the length of time, we had two contractors - first Pete then Mark. Both were very upfront with us, very forthcoming and honest - and most importantly, they were very communicative. We were prepared for this project to take a while but we needed to know where everything stood at each interval to make sure it was moving forward. Pete and Mike were great!! They texted us regularly and were immediately responsive to our inquiries. Once the permitting process was completed, the project moved forward at a very acceptable pace. The workers were very respectful, very clean and performed admirably. We are very pleased with the deck, and extremely pleased with Paragon. We can't wait to hire them again!

Our experience with Paragon was generally positive and we'd recommend this contractor without reservation. The business arrangements were clear and Paragon operated with integrity and flexibility. Our crew was competent, respectful of our home, friendly, and took pride in doing careful and quality work. Paragon quickly responded to customer feedback and strived for customer satisfaction throughout the project. The sources recommended by Paragon for wall tile, wood flooring, counter granite, cabinet hardware, and plumbling fixtures all provided superior service and extended contractor pricing. Our remodeled kitchen and powder room are key features of our traditional 1926 house and significantly enhance the home appearance and property value.

Vincent arrived early for the quote which impressed me. We reviewed the project and he advised a price on the spot (which surprised me). I asked a lot of questions about timing and what was/was not included. I liked that there would be a project manager to oversee the project so signed the contract even though it was a lot more than I had expected. Paul, the Director of Projects, was assigned to my project which I thought would be a good thing. When Paul came out for the pre-production meeting, his estimate on the length of the project was different than Vincent's estimate. There were also questions about what was/was not included in the scope of work even though I thought we had clarified everything. Paragon did agree to cover the items agreed to by Vincent even though it was not in the contract. I appreciated that. Paul came out for the first morning of the project. When he left, I asked how often he would come by. He said he tries to come by every day during a project. Plus, there were multiple projects going on in my town so it sounded like he would be in the area. Needless to say, he came for the rough inspections and then did not come back for over a week. When he did come back, he realized that the team had not tented/tarped my room and my bedroom was covered in dust and dirt. He apologized and sent someone to clean my bedroom. I mentioned that he would have known about the issue if he had come by daily as mentioned. His reply was that he saw pictures every day. I explained that was not the same as coming by the actual site. The guy who did the work in my bathroom was good but I felt that I had to follow up on a lot of things. Since Paul was not around, I felt like I had to make sure he knew what was happening day to day. When they finished the plumbing, I had to have them come back twice due to leaks. They installed my medicine cabinet incorrectly and had to come back and fix it (it was not anchored on the wall). When they were "finished", I had to send an email with photos of a lot of little issues (dings in the wall, poor paint job, open edges where they did not caulk). They came back again to fix those items although now one section of a wall looks very odd (they sanded it and it has a different texture than the rest of the walls). At this point, I think I might hire someone else to come out and fix the wall/paint. I literally do not have it in me to go through another round of fixes. I had a few rough conversations with Paul about the project. During one of these conversations, he said "You have asked me the same question 4 times. If you keep asking me, you will keep getting the same answer." Not the response that I expected. He explained to me that "This is what happens in production." Funny enough - I work in manufacturing and production so did not appreciate that comment (although it has been the source of many, many jokes in my office). I explained that if he had done a better job pre-production (reviewing materials, reviewing construction expectations, etc.), we would not have had the issues during production. I also explained that I was asking questions because his answers were vague and not helpful. I got the impression he either didn't have the time to properly explain things to me or didn't think I could understand what was happening. One other point, because the guy who did the work in my apartment walked to my apartment, he didn't carry supplies. He ended up using my vacuum to vacuum up the dirt/caulk/etc and put the vacuum back. When I went to use my vacuum, it was filthy (absolutely covered in dust). When I picked it up, grout and white dust fell out. I asked him to clean it which he did - but it's still dirty. I will probably throw it away and buy a new. While I think Paul is qualified, I think he has too much on his plate. He told me that there are currently 30 projects going on. If he is going to be the Director of Projects, he should direct the team. If he is going to be a project manager, he should do that and be on site at the projects.

I LOVE my new deck! The composite material is so much better than the wood I used to have. It washes clean so easily and maintains a fresh look. My salesman from Paragon was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. He was very friendly and answered all of the questions I had and did not rush me. He explained everything in detail. I told them I had a very quickly approaching deadline and they purchased all the materials and had my deck done within two weeks of meeting them for the first time. I was so happy that they were able to meet my needs even in their busiest season. Thank you Paragon!! :)

As with all projects, we had many a surprise and a few challenges as the old items were removed. Some of these were due to structural issues (the subfloor needed to be replaced due to unseen water damage from the previous owners); others had to due with mistakes/miscalculations of some our suppliers. Throughout the process Paragon kept us informed and worked closely remedy all issues in a timely and low-cost manner. They showed up every day on time. They were extremely meticulous in cleaning up each and very day, They took great pains to ensure that there was no collateral damage (& there was none). Most importantly, the job wasn't "done" until we were completely satisfied with the results. In the end, we got the "dream bathroom" we always wanted.

When I moved some clothing racks away from a wall, I discovered it was full of cracks. I first called a company that did painting and repairs. They quite responsibly told me that this might be outside their expertise and suggested I call a contractor. I called one and emailed another, but couldn't get someone to come out. Paragon was my third contractor and turned out to be the charm. I consequently can't rate whether the price was good or not because I have nothing to compare it to. It seemed a little high but then I lack a frame of reference and it might be average. The person who came out to estimate thought it would require one type of repair, but Paragon wisely sent Paul, a supervisor, alone with the workers, and he discovered that another type of repair would be better. The workers were pleasant, tidy and did an excellent job. The office staff is also exemplary. They are there when one calls, and I appreciate the responsiveness. Another thing I really appreciated was the fact that they were able to do the job on a Saturday. This was overtime for them, but with very little leave available from my work after an operation and family issues, it was a godsend to me.

Overall, I am very happy with the work. They actually completed it about 9 months ago, but I wanted to wait to see if any problems developed before fully commenting and I am happy to say all is well. Paragon was pretty prompt in following up on my initial inquiry with a detailed review of the work I wanted done and estimate that I could easily compare to others and note similarities and differences. In the end, the estimate was within 5% or so of the actuals even when unexpected situations arose once the walls were opened. The crew arrived early on most days and worked diligently. There was no "drama" with workers not showing up, not getting along or not doing what they were supposed to do. The only complication that weighed down my assessment was that within the first week of the work starting, the project manager left due to medical reasons. While this could not be avoided, this meant that there was no project manager on my job to keep me apprised of the plans for the week, etc. Tom, the owner, stepped in and personally managed the job for the duration. While I think he did an admirable job, I'm sure that this was difficult to manage with everything else. As we got to parts of the project where work was done but had to wait for inspections, the value of having a dedicated project manager was apparent. There were days that the guys were not scheduled to come and I didn't know that until about 9 am when no one was here, and I called the office. Or maybe they only needed to come for a few hours vs the whole day, and I was not informed in advance. Having said all this, I think overall things went well and I have received many compliments. Everything was done in about 2 1/2-3 months and I was never without a working toilet and shower. I would use them again for similar work.

Project was a full kitchen gut and combining the current kitchen into the mud room. Solid professionals from start to finish. Helped walk through the process, next steps, pros and cons of different options, etc. Patient and thorough, very easy to get in touch with by phone, email, text, etc. Project took longer than anticipated due to some unforeseen circumstances, but they were communicative and did their best to keep pushing project forward. We are thrilled with the finished product and love our new kitchen. We are also using them for a new project. Highly recommend.

The team over-communicated throughout the process, which was especially helpful given our situation of not knowing where the problem area in the shower was and how extensive the damage was or the related remodel would need to be. They were also flexible in terms of our options, which allowed us to work through the remodel in terms of the type of work to be done, the timing, the price, etc.
