My wife and I was referred to Paul Lopa Designs from a co-worker of mine who has been raving about the quality of work and service. I reside in the lower east side of Manhattan and needed a complete renovation of my 3 bedroom condo. We researched and interviewed countless contractors and designers, none of which we felt truly comfortable and confident with until we met Paul. His knowledge, patience and willingness to work with our budget was incomparable. Everyone was a pleasure to work with and speak to, from the office team to the staff on site. His team always had fresh ideas and and was prompt when responding to emails, phone calls and text messages. His team even sent us photos as the work progressed through each phase! We can't get over how AMAZING our place looks, it's a nice feeling when friends and family visit and can't stop complimenting how beautiful our place is. I highly doubt any contractor will give you the level of attention, quality, and service like Paul Lopa. I highly recommend! THANK YOU PAUL and FRIENDS!

Paul Lopa Designs (PLD) and his team were recommended by a friend who hired him for two previous renovations. Having seen their work in person I knew PLD would be the perfect fit to bring my Brownstone back to life! Aside from being extremely professional PLD also has an exceptional level of taste. They understood my aesthetics and made the process of material/ fixture selection easier than I could ever imagine. They even created a 3D model of my home to show me how everything will look! From start to finish I was thoroughly impressed with how the project was managed. Paul was frequently on site to supervise the subcontractors and stayed true to the project schedule. I will definitely be using them for future projects!

Took the money and ABSCONDED. - I started work for my 700SF one bedroom in 2017. It's 2019 and the work is still unfinished. - I paid in excess of $100,000 to Paul to do the job. - Paul Lopa took the money and vanished. Multiple text messages and calls to him have all gone unanswered. - At this time, I am preparing to take him to court. - I am frankly surprised at the reviews he has received because they are completely contradictory to what I experienced - absolutely not a 5-star experience. - When he began work, every question was accompanied by an additional bill because 'it did not include the work specification'. - His sub contractors damaged the apt more than fixing it- tearing off the electrical panel cover, the kitchen light fixtures continuously fall off, the floors buckle [I am told it has to do with humidity, weird because the other renovated apartments in my bldg are perfectly fine], the kitchen sink pipes cracked after 9 months flooding the bathroom, the closets doors collapsed a few weeks after installation, the city inspections failed because the work was haphazardly done [If you think I may be biased, the failed city inspections should tell you a lot] - I had to call the appliance manufacturer to fix the gas lines because not only did Paul not respond to text and calls, I also lost trust in his work quality. All of the work is still pending.. - As an eg- His workers damaged the new closets because they wanted to leave early for a long weekend and I had asked them to finish it before they leave. A few mins later they called me back and showed me a brand new damaged door [ which I had unwrapped a few mins ago] and there was a gaping hole [Caused by a hammer]. - I ordered kitchen cabinets from Paul Lopa's own store 'Cabinet plant' that was delayed by over 2 months. They gave me every excuse from specialized templates to storms in the Atlantic and order stuck with customs. It was always someone else's fault. - By the time I had paid him over $100,000 with a remaining bal of $1,500. I told him that I would hold that amount until the job was completed. He immediately ceased all work for 2 weeks until I paid the final $1,500, soon after he absconded. - My apartment still has open permits, unfinished work and various damages with no response from Paul Lopa. - [He did show up a few weeks ago and sent his contractor to 'clean up' some work for a day, but has absconded again].

Paul gives you real bang for your buck because he is a designer AND a general contractor. He really listened to how we intended to use the space, our lifestyle and our needs and worked with us until the design was just right. He had some challenges to face in a house built in 1901 but solved them all. He even figured out to put a hidden storage facility behind a wall in the bathroom - ensuring functionality while not affecting the design of the bathroom. And he constructed a door out of our original beam that everyone asks about when they come visit - such a beautiful conversation starter. We love our space and use it every single day. You can't go wrong with Paul.

We signed the contract in April and the work began in June. We had a baby due in early August and were racing against that deadline to get the job done. Paul was very invested in accomplishing that goal. We were very relieved when we had a kitchen sink , cabinetry, counter top and running water before the baby came. Paul has a keen eye for design and suggested elements we would not have thought of ourselves that we now really appreciate.   <br /> He was very responsive to us via text and email.  And always available to respond to our concerns and queries in a professional manner.  His team was respectful and easy to work with. Through Paul we found appliances at better prices than we could find ourselves.  It was a really good experience.

It went extremely well and smooth. There were some unexpected hiccups along the way but, Paul and I were able to come up with the proper solutions and agree on any additional cost before they were applied. Paul took pride in his company and was around most of the time from the beginning to the end. Paul has very good ideas and has impeccable taste. <br /> I would certainly use him again on my next project. Thank you Paul for everything !!!!!! <br />

I just purchased a new home and was excited to renovate the basement so that our family could enjoy the space we newly acquired. As a new owner, I had lots of ideas that I wanted to do with the space. I met with a few contractors that were highly rated on Angie's list.  I ultimately chose to work with Paul Lopa Designs and I learned a few valuable lessons throughout this process: <br /> <strong>Lesson 1: Work with someone who obviously knows more than you do.</strong> <br /> After respectfully listening to my ideas, Paul gave suggestions that were completely different.  I immediately realized that he knew what he was doing. Unlike the other contractors, Paul came to the table with a designer's eye. His suggestions allowed me to maximize the space and added overall  value to my home. All of the other contractors were ready to do as I said and gave me quotes as such. However, now that the project is over, I realize that had I approached this from my perspective....I would have made a big mistake.  Also with two kids and a business, I did not have time to figure everything out or micro-manage a project or a contractor.  I trusted in Paul's suggestions, design recommendations and ideas.  I am thrilled with the results.  <br /> <strong>Lesson 2: A contractor should operate to the standard that any other business would in today's day and age.<br /> </strong>Paul always communicated with me. He has a great website and app that allowed me to see the progress of my house. He built a schedule and kept to it.   He operates his business with transparency and believes in communication.  Even after we were done, Paul still takes my calls with the same attention.  My old house had a lot of unfortunate surprises, but I trusted in Paul's advice and suggestions. I do not regret anything that we decided on and I trust that he advised me well. He operates his business knowing that being honest, delivering quality work, making sure the client is satisfied and remaining transparent will get you business....and he is right.  <br /> <strong>Lesson 3: Good work will cost $, bad work will cost more $$$.<br /> </strong>Paul did not come in the cheapest, but he also was not the most expensive.  Also, he made suggestions (like remove my boiler/ water tank and upgrade to High Efficiency Combo Unit so I could gain more basement living space) that made sense.  In addition, ALL of Paul's guys and specialists were professional and quality.  I believe that I paid a fair price for the quality and level of service I received.   I am scared to think how much money this would have cost me (either now or later) if this work was not done well or to the detail that Paul gave it. <br /> <strong>Lesson 4: Work with someone who actually cares about their reputation and your satisfaction.<br /> </strong>This should be obvious...but with contractors...not always the case. <br /> Overall, Paul did an incredible job.  He was a joy to work with and I am grateful that I chose to work with him.  When the time comes to renovate the main floor and second floor, I will contact him immediately and hire him. I really feel that I have found a great partner with Paul and would not even consider working with another company.  He proved to me that he knows what he is doing and has my best interest in mind.   I enjoy my home more and more each day and I sincerely have Paul to thank for this. <br /> <br />

I was extremely impressed with the way the process went from start to finish. From day one it was very clear from the proposal to the contract. The design process was flawless From picking selections to scheduling and approving change orders. I didn't know what to expect when hiring Paul Lopa designs, but I notice such great reviews and did my research online. I'm very happy with the outcome of my bathroom, neighbors and friends are so impressed. When looking for a contractor I notice most contractors provide the same services and Paul Lopa designs was able to help us with the design process and the construction. I'm extremely thankful for your crew and your professionalism.

Paul and his team did a great job!  My kitchen went from outdated and in need of serious work to modern, functional and better than I had imagined when I started planning for the renovation. I chose Paul because unlike many other contractors he not only handles all of the labor but he came up with the design and made great use of space.  The place looks great and seems much bigger than it actually is due to the design.  Everyone who comes in for the first time since the renovation is blown away, they cant believe its the same place.  The job went according to plane and Paul was involved in every detail.  I was able to approve everything on his website as each step developed.  Overall I am very happy with my decision to choose Paul Lopa Designs. <br />

<hr /> <br />   <blockquote>      My husband and I could not be happier with the job Paul Lopa and his team have done for us.  From the start of the job Paul was on top of every detail of my project which was quite a large one.  What is great about hiring Paul is that not only are you getting a great contractor you also get someone with a great eye for design.  He helped me with all of my selections for my kitchen and my bathrooms.  He also picked out my paint colors on the first floor which I absolutely love.  My husband and I certainly threw Paul some curves changing our minds from time to time but he was patient and professional and always worked hard to make us happy.  He came up with so many great ideas that I never would of thought of to make my home look beautiful. My kitchen now is not only gorgeous to look at, it functions better then I could have ever dreamed.  The improvements to my bathrooms also make my families lives so much easier.  One of the things that I really appreciated the most was that during a large and lengthy project Paul always made sure that each aspect of the job was done right and to his high standards. This really alleviated a lot the stress for me.   <br />       My experience working with Paul Lopa was a great one. He went above and beyond to make everything perfect.  Working on my house as if it were his own.   Paul took my home which was outdated and did not function well at all and turned it into a home that my family and I love.  <br />       </blockquote> <hr /> <br />

Paul Lopa designs from start to finish made this process seamless and fun. From day one we were able to track all work progress through his online system including pictures, proposals, contracts and change orders. This system made making sections for our kitchen and bathroom a snap, literally by the click of a button. We were also very impressed by his design services and punctuality. He was very involved with helping us pick out our unique style, different from most homes. Our friends and family are constantly complimenting us on our home and the transformation, they can not recognize our house! I would absolutely recommend Paul Lopa Designs for future projects. <br />

It went as smooth as it possibly could go. The only bumps in the road was with what we found during demolition, you never know what your gonna run into when all the walls, floors and fixtures come out. Paul had explained to us that depending on what we found under all the out dated stuff it might take a little longer. Paul was there doing the work with his workers he showed up on time and finished on schedule. It was no problem being in touch with Paul because he answered his phone or got back to us in a timely fashion. He has an excellent sense of design he knows what goes well together and makes the house flow with comfort and useability. <strong>       EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH PAUL AND NEW FIRST FLOOR.</strong> <br />

Im so pleased that we chose Paul Lopa designs for my home renovation. What stood out from the rest was that Paul was able to walk us through the creative process from start to finish. When my wife and I were unsure about what tile to use or what fixtures to use he was able to give us his creative input and did it in a professional manner without being pushy. Also his selections of hardware are very unique and modern exactly what we were looking for. I would recommend Paul and his team of professionals100% for any renovation <br />

When hiring Paul Lopa you aren't just getting a contractor. You're getting a designer, too. He has an unbelievable eye for design and listened to our (exhaustive) input when it comes to how we want our home to function for our particular lifestyle. He was incredibly responsive, answering texts and calls in the morning and at night and working around our busy work and travel schedule to ensure work and discussions could continue. Is he is the cheapest guy on the block? No - but he explains every cost down to the cent. When it comes to contractors, 'you get what you pay for.' If you want a guy who is a stereotypical contractor, doing shoddy work and delaying projects, then don't hire Paul Lopa. If you want a guy who will work until you are completely satisfied (and I'm a tricky customer) then give him a call. You won't be let down. <br />

My wife and I consider Paul Lopa to one of the best designer / contractors on Staten Island. He handled our recent bathroom renovation with the utmost professionalism and skill. His knowledge of home construction is definitely a plus when working a project such as our 50 year old bathroom. Every facet of the plan, from design, demolition and rebuilding, was managed expertly and skillfully. Most importantly Paul’s timeline was accurate and work was performed every day without fail. Preparation, such as dust covers, and clean up were also a big plus. We would recommend Paul and his team to anyone regardless of the size or scope of the project. We are great full to him for getting us through the project.

The job overall turned out fine. The quality was at a high level. But it was a stressful two weeks being displaced from my home. especially because I didn't realize it was going to be that way. The big deal approach ($500 for 500 square feet of painting) was in hindsight not the best approach for me because I needed more than painting and a more individualized approach. It was a more complicated job and I would have been better off getting a range of estimates for skim coating. So I didn't realize until the day the work was scheduled that it would be such a big undertaking and a high price. (The painters did not make a visit until the day the work was scheduled to begin.) If I had gotten estimates rather than a big deal, I could have had time to compare estimates, plan and prepare. In terms of the job itself, it was a top quality job. For the price I paid, however, I would have liked better communication during the job. The workers themselves were trustworthy and I was comfortable giving them my key. But the communication was only done through the supervisor who was not on site constantly. So I didn't get an update every day about what went on.

I first contacted Paul by email after reading great reviews about his company on Angie's List and after seeing he had a painting special available.  When I called him, we talked about the project and I sent him the floor plan so he could provide an estimate.  I needed the apartment fully painted in just a few days as I was about to move, so it was nice that I didn't have to waste time waiting for him to come see the space in person.  For a bigger job I probably would have wanted an in-person estimate, but for painting my relatively small apartment I had no problem with him going off of the floor plan. <br /> Though he was offering a deal on Angie's List, he sent me to his company's website where he had another deal, which was $599 for two rooms, not including paint (of course).  He said if I bought two of those packages, he could have the whole apartment painted in two days.  Further, a friend of mine who was moving into the same new building and also needed painting, so he bought two of the deals as well.  That way, Paul's crew could paint both of our apartments at the same time.  At first, the price was a little bit more than I had wanted to pay, but he did include all the supplies except for paint, so that was a nice bonus.  He didn't charge extra for me using 8 different colors throughout either, which was also a nice bonus.  In fact, I actually had another contractor come look at the apartment and he quoted me $1600.  I asked him if he would do it for $1200 or less, and he said no.  He actually said, "If you can find someone good who will do it for $1200, you better jump on that deal."  So I did!   <br /> Paul's guys started on my friend's apartment first, since he was moving into the new building a few days before me.  I think there was a little bit of a punctuality issue on the first day, since the guys were supposed to arrive around 8 but didn't show up until 9.  Not ideal, but also not a big deal.  They had my friend's apartment painted in two days, then they started mine.   <br /> The first day they painted the entire living room/kitchen and the master bedroom.  The next day his guys had some kind of car trouble so they couldn't make it.  On the third day, they came back and finished the rest of the apartment.  Two coats in every room.  I have to say, the work was amazing.  In my last apartment I decided to save money and go with a "handyman" who barely spoke English and charged me $400 for my whole apartment.  Well, you get what you pay for.  Paul's work was really excellent, and well worth every penny. <br /> His guys removed all of the light switch plates and electrical socket plates and taped up all of the baseboards and around the doors, even though they didn't need to.  I just asked them to because it made me feel better.  His guys were able to paint along the baseboard with the sharpest line you've ever seen without even getting paint on the tape.  I actually couldn't believe it.  There wasn't a single spot in the apartment I was unhappy with.  They left the place 100% clean.  Not a drop of paint anywhere.   <br /> Now, my apartment looks professionally painted and people definitely notice the quality of the work.  I will absolutely use Paul Lopa the next time I need an apartment painted.  I HIGHLY recommend him for any painting needs you may have! <br />

Paul came over to measure out the area.  Very punctual and very professional.  The men he uses to do the job are very careful and detail oriented.  Everything was moved and covered very well.  They did an excellent job.  Despite inspecting the job myself immediately after they finished, I only noticed something not to my liking a week later.  I called Paul up and he came over personally to look at the problem and he took care of the remaining fix up several days later.  I am very pleased with the overall job and I will be using his company again. <br />

We have been working with Paul Lopa and his crew for over a year now, we are almost like family...poor guys.  I feel I can contact Paul or Brian at anytime with any problem or question or just for an opinion. If there was a problem with something, Paul is always right there, but honestly, things have gone pretty well considering the amount of time and the size of the job.  But no matter what, Paul is always prepared to make any changes or address any issue just to make us happy.  It is important to note that the finished product has to meet Paul's standards as well and his standards are pretty high.  When he is not happy with the way something turns out he will literally tear it down from scratch and make sure it is done right, we had some issues with the bathroom and kitchen cabinets that he dealt with that involved more labor and materials and at no time did we see the cost. <br />   <br /> Due to the enormous amount of work that had to be done, many decisions had to be made that I could not have made without Paul and his crew, including his plumber and electrician who were just as great to work with. This renovation has been a challenge for all of us. It has been difficult being out of our home for so long but many things had to be addressed, we were just not prepared to renovate our entire house. And again, I have to thank Paul and Brain for literally holding our hands through this. They knew how devastated we were after the storm and have been nothing but supportive and understanding throughout this process. <br />   <br /> The actual work that was done by the provider speaks for itself. Words cannot describe how happy we are with the end result. After the work was done on the first and second floor, we decided to finish the entire basement. It added more time to the job but I was happy to have Paul design, and build it for us. In the end, our basement is now my favorite part of the house. Paul is great at utilizing space and making it look beautiful and personalized at the same time. He built custom shelving for storage in what would have been wasted space in the walls and created a (hopefully) somewhat soundproof space for my husband and his drums. He went out of his way to research the best and most economical way to make it as soundproof as possible. <br /> Paul's attention to detail is really refreshing. His crew worked tirelessly on custom radiator covers that have to be seen to be believed. They are perfect for the style of the home and just enhance the look of each room. The same attention to detail was given to all areas of the house and has been consistent since day one. And this has been a LONG job.  I am truly impressed.  At some point we will deal with our backyard, garage and front of our home.  Paul Lopa designs will hopefully be part of that as well. <br />   <br /> I feel it is really important to address the cost of a renovation of this magnitude.  A cheaper contractor can always be found but if you want things done to code, done with care and concern and with results that could be on the cover of a magazine, you have to expect to pay a little more and you need to really research a contractor.  Owning an old home for over 13 years we have paid more for some services in the past hoping it would lead to better results and unfortunately it is not always the case.  That's what led me to Angie's List.  Luckily, Paul Lopa Designs were the first contractors we hired through Angie's List and as long as they are in business we will continue to use them and continue to recommend them.  They are worth every penny. <br /> <br /> <br />
