I first contacted Paul by email after reading great reviews about his company on Angie's List and after seeing he had a painting special available. When I called him, we talked about the project and I sent him the floor plan so he could provide an estimate. I needed the apartment fully painted in just a few days as I was about to move, so it was nice that I didn't have to waste time waiting for him to come see the space in person. For a bigger job I probably would have wanted an in-person estimate, but for painting my relatively small apartment I had no problem with him going off of the floor plan.
Though he was offering a deal on Angie's List, he sent me to his company's website where he had another deal, which was $599 for two rooms, not including paint (of course). He said if I bought two of those packages, he could have the whole apartment painted in two days. Further, a friend of mine who was moving into the same new building and also needed painting, so he bought two of the deals as well. That way, Paul's crew could paint both of our apartments at the same time. At first, the price was a little bit more than I had wanted to pay, but he did include all the supplies except for paint, so that was a nice bonus. He didn't charge extra for me using 8 different colors throughout either, which was also a nice bonus. In fact, I actually had another contractor come look at the apartment and he quoted me $1600. I asked him if he would do it for $1200 or less, and he said no. He actually said, "If you can find someone good who will do it for $1200, you better jump on that deal." So I did!
Paul's guys started on my friend's apartment first, since he was moving into the new building a few days before me. I think there was a little bit of a punctuality issue on the first day, since the guys were supposed to arrive around 8 but didn't show up until 9. Not ideal, but also not a big deal. They had my friend's apartment painted in two days, then they started mine.
The first day they painted the entire living room/kitchen and the master bedroom. The next day his guys had some kind of car trouble so they couldn't make it. On the third day, they came back and finished the rest of the apartment. Two coats in every room. I have to say, the work was amazing. In my last apartment I decided to save money and go with a "handyman" who barely spoke English and charged me $400 for my whole apartment. Well, you get what you pay for. Paul's work was really excellent, and well worth every penny.
His guys removed all of the light switch plates and electrical socket plates and taped up all of the baseboards and around the doors, even though they didn't need to. I just asked them to because it made me feel better. His guys were able to paint along the baseboard with the sharpest line you've ever seen without even getting paint on the tape. I actually couldn't believe it. There wasn't a single spot in the apartment I was unhappy with. They left the place 100% clean. Not a drop of paint anywhere.
Now, my apartment looks professionally painted and people definitely notice the quality of the work. I will absolutely use Paul Lopa the next time I need an apartment painted. I HIGHLY recommend him for any painting needs you may have!
