Tim Penniston is without question one of the most pleasant and professional people I've ever done business with. He was very punctual and hard working my fence was installed within a couple of days. I'm so pleased with my fence my yard is so beautiful. Now that I have my fence I couldn't be happier! Most importantly, my dogs can't get out of the yard; which was my biggest fear.

I called Penniston Fence to get 1 of 3 bids & Tim came out that week. He was very helpful on where to place this strip of fencing so I could block as much of their house as possible. He recommenced a tan vinyl fence to match my siding. He explained vinyl was much less maintenance since I live alone. His bid was very competitive so I went with him. Tim was very low sales pressure. The other 2 companies wanted me to sign "right now"! Within a few weeks my vinyl fence was ordered and installed. He arrived in the am and it was completed by mid afternoon. He cleaned up very nicely & did not disturb my other plantings in the area. Working with Penniston Fence was just a pleasure. Now I can go outside & enjoy my own space in peace! In fact I am thinking about adding more fence to my yard & I will definitely call them. Life is good!

We hired Penniston Fence to install a fence in our backyard and we couldn't be more happy with the final product. They were very professional, the price was very competitive and the crew worked very fast and efficiently. I would definitely recommend Penniston Fence to my friends and family.

We called the company that evening and spoke to the owner, Tim, who stated he would have someone come and clean it the next morning. We then followed up the conversation with an email and asked that he also complete the remainder of the fence installation on the neighbor's property and remain off of ours ( as we just paid alot of money to have all of this landscaping done 2 weeks ago). We attached several pictures in the email of the damage that incurred with Penniston Fence installing the neighbor's fence on our property. On, 10/4/2016 we came home to find the neighbor's fence had been complete, our property was not cleaned up, Penninston Fence had been back on our property to complete the installation of the fence, and more damage to our landscaping was done. There was no response to our original email asking them to stay off of our property to install the remainder of the fence. However, the way in which the fence was installed ( nails put in the front of the fence, they would have had to be on our property to do that work). They also knocked another landcaping stone loose, several other plants were strampled over and one was even cut with a shears. We followed up with an email to Tim Penniston on 10/4/2016 in the evening to which his response was: "My address is attached to this email. Please feel free to take me to small claims court in order to address your concerns. Sincerely, Tim Penniston, Owner" . Just extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service with this company who raves on his website about his ratings with Angie's list and the BBB.

He put a whole fence in for us. I made the check out for more than what he was charging and he let me know so I could get him a new check with the correct amount. Very honest, polite, and professional.

Its been over two years since we used Penniston for our 6ft cedar privacy fence and the fence still looks great. Tim was very easy to work with and answered all of our questions. He uses only the highest quality materials (including cedar posts rather than pressure-treated), and the craftsmanship is great. Its just a bonus that his estimate came in well below the other two that I got. You will need to plan in advance, as he is very busy and personally handles most if not all of his projects (from what I remember). Our project was completed by him, his brother, and another member of his family. The wait was a bit of a hassle, but he was up front about how far out he was booked and it was well worth the wait for the quality he provided. I wouldn't hesitate to use Tim again and have recommended him to a number of friends and neighbors.
Tim built us a gate with an electronic opener from scratch. He built the frame, did the wiring, constructed the gate itself, and installed a keypad. It's an impressive piece of work, this gate! Two other companies bid the job, but one was ridiculously high and the other did not sound confident that they could pull it off successfully. Tim built us an awesome gate to our specifications for a reasonable price. We have had the gate for two years, and I wrote a review after he built it. I am updating my review, however, to add that he maintains this gate like the Holy Grail! There is so much pride in construction here- if something needs to be adjusted or repaired and I call or text, I swear Tim and his son appear magically and fix it right up. I am so happy that we went with Penniston Fence for this job. Tim is not one of those to do a disappearing act if there is a problem. He has been very good to us and to our gate and I am very grateful! We also recommended him to our neighbors across the street, and he built them a gorgeous cedar fence around their backyard that they love. He does really great work. You need to call him. :)
I contacted Penniston Fence through their website and I was contacted the same day by Mike, who scheduled a time to come by for an estimate the next day. After walking the fence line with me and listening to my requests, Mike took measurements and said that he would email me a bid after going over the specifications with Tim, the owner.
I received the bid via email the next week and of the 4 companies I contacted, their bid was lowest. After I added an additional item to my request, I accepted the bid and Tim said that they would get the fence installed by the end of July.
On July 14, Tim called me in the morning and said that they had an opening and could they come today and get started on the installation? Tim, his son, and the rest of the crew got to the house around 10 am and worked until around 3PM, getting most of the work completed. When they returned the next day to finish up, I asked them to move a gate from one side of the yard to the other side and they did so without complaint or price increase!
Penniston Fence finished the job ahead of schedule and left my yard in great shape with no trash or fence parts remaining.
The only reason I'm giving them a "B" on Professionalism is that while they were digging post holes, they broke a buried AT&T data line, knocking phone and internet service out for over a day for my neighbor. This could have been prevented by having the utility companies come out and flag the buried cables. They may has skipped this step because they moved my job up. On the plus side, Tim accepted responsibility for the accident and released me from any liability.
I would (and will!) use Penniston Fence for future projects.

Tim came out and gave us an estimate almost immediately after we reached out to him. He worked with us to ensure the job would be completed quickly, and even squeezed us in between jobs so that it could be done in a timely fashion. The day of the installation, he and his team arrived right on time, and got to work immediately. In about 90-minutes, the entire job was done. I couldn't believe how fast and efficient they were! Everything looked perfect, and they took the time to answer all of our questions thoroughly.
The only downside to our entire experience was a lack of communication - we did have to reach out to Tim multiple times before getting a call back, but other than that, we have nothing but great things to say about Penniston Fence Company. We will use them in the future, and recommend them to everyone. Thank you for everything!
Tim did a great job. I received 3 bids, Penniston was well under the high bid and a little over the low bid. I chose Penniston because I felt comfortable with Tim when I met him. He showed up for our initial appointment on time, walked the property with me, made some suggestions, emailed me a proposal the next morning. When I contacted him to do the install he gave me a date to start the job. He showed up on that day, removed the old fence, drilled the post holes and contacted the Creve Coeur inspector. The following day after the inspection he installed the entire fence. We ordered a arched gate that he told us would take about 3 weeks to get from his supplier. When the gate came in(within 3 weeks) he contacted me and came out on Saturday and installed the gate. We re just waiting for the final approval from the Creve Coeur inspector. The fence looks great and Tim has been a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Tim Penniston.
We are thrilled with Tim's work. He was prompt, communicative, and professional. Everything went very smoothly and we couldn't be happier. When we changed our mind about one section of the fence, the company came back out and changed it to our liking. Very, very good service. Thank you, Tim!
Initially I contacted Penniston Fence (after reading their reviews on Angie's List) in March of 2013; however, I was unable to proceed with the work until an adjoining neighbor replaced her severely dilapidated cinder block retaining wall, which was leaning precipitously onto my property (it would've prevented a new fence from being installed properly)y. Unfortunately, it took over 14 months before the neighbor replaced that wall, at which time I contacted Penniston Fence again. Tim came out promptly and gave me a new estimate, after which I signed the contract.
Tim Penniston and his assistant arrived yesterday to deliver all the necessary materials, and then returned today to install the fence. By lunchtime it was all but finished. By the time I came home this aftrernoon it was completed, and there was no sign anyone had been here, except for the incredibly beautiful fence. No nails, screws, trash, lumber -- nothing. It's like they were never here.
I do believe Tim Penniston is an absolute artist! I'm so impressed by the quality of the new fence -- the quality of the materials, but mostly the quality of workmanship and attention to detail. I've been outside all evening, admiring the new fence, and already several of my neighbors have complimented me on the new fence.
I would most definitely use this company again, if I ever have any future fencing needs, and I highly recommend them to anyone considering a new fence.
We have had prior poor experiences with fence companies over the past 7 years, on two different projects. Both times we found the previous fence companies to be very slow, non-communicative, with repeated visits needed to install the fencing properly. We therefore thought all fencing companies were like this.
For this new fencing project, we turned to Angie's List, and that was the answer to our problems. We found Penniston Fencing who did work in our area, and who came highly recommended on Angies List.
It was a pleasure to work with Tim Penniston and his company. He was very responsive, coming out to the house for an estimate within a few days of contacting him via Angie's list and email. He promptly provided a professional estimate which was quite reasonable, and was in line with another quote that we previously received (from one of the companies that we had used before but had troubles with).
We needed a speciality fencing product that needed to be ordered, but as soon as the fencing was in, Tim was over with his son and the fence was installed professionally and quickly. Our city inspector (who we have previously found to be hard-to-please) was quite impressed by the quality of the labor and fencing as well.
Tim and his son were both prompt, courteous, and very respectful of our property. We couldn't have asked for a better interaction with a fencing company and would certainly use them again if we need additional fence work performed. We recommend them very highly, without reservation.

I don't know where to begin. The fence installation kept getting put off. When Tim finally came out we'd just had snow. He said that wasn't a problem even though the ground was so wet. They were supposed to remove the old fence, including the concrete on the posts, before putting the new fence up. I've found at least five posts that were just cut off to the ground instead of removing them.

My neighbor called to tell me that when the corner post was removed they threw it in her shrubs behind her fence. I called Tim to complain and he said they'd left it behind because their trailer was full. Uh, okay, but why in the neighbors bushes? When they came back I mentioned it to his son. The son went over and got it and threw it in my ivy bed behind my fence and left it behind when they left that day. I called again and was told the trailer was too full to take it. The son came back to get the post, with this same full trailer, and drove through the grass behind my fence and my neighbors leaving huge ruts that were really deep and quite wide. I had to complain about this three times before they finally got dirt, grass seed, and straw, to fill in these ruts. Not sure how well grass seed planted in January will work out but at least it doesn't look like I got a yard job now.

When they dug the holes for the new posts they threw all the mud in my flower beds completely covering the mulch I'd just put down in late fall. They didn't do this in just one place, all the way down the side of my yard, across the back, and the front flower beds were ruined with the mud they spread around. They had a wheel barrow with them but I have no idea what they used it for. When they finished the side one day I noticed they'd even covered up two sprinkler heads. There was so much mud they had trouble finding the heads when we did the final inspection, which I had to ask for because I had so many issues with them.

Spring is now here and guess what. All the plants I had planted down the side flower bed have not come back, my peonies are missing, as well as the clematis I had planted. When I started trying to fix the mess they left behind I had to dig my yucca plant leaves out from under all the mud. It looks pretty pitiful so I doubt that it survived. To top it all off, when the new fence was put up along this side, they set it in about eight inches further into my flower bed then where the original fence was located. They seemingly didn't notice the eight inch gap between my new fence and my neighbors fence. I called and told Tim there were gaps in her front and back fence. he came right out and put a new board up in her back fence then left. I noticed the next day that he hadn't taken care of the front fence so I called him again. He claimed I hadn't told him about the front. Yes, because she'd had to put chicken wire up to keep her dog from getting through there and I told him this.

The whole job was a complete mess and has left a real sour taste for me. It's hard to enjoy a fence I spent so much money on when I'm now having to spend so much time and money fixes everything they screwed up. I read the reviews on Angie's list before I settled on Penniston. All I can say is if you hire this company I sure hope you don't have any flower beds, plants, shrubs, or grass for them to kill off.

Tim was great to work with from beginning to end. He was punctual, gave us a great price and had some good ideas. He removed our existing gate and some additional wooden fencing, and replaced it with beautiful aluminum, wrought-iron-look double gate and fencing. He came on a snowy, cold day, did the work quickly. He told us to call if there were any problems - and after the snow melted, we noticed some debris lying around and the gate wasn't closing properly (just needed a small adjustment.) He came immediately, cleaned up everything, adjusted the gate, and told us to call again if there were any other problems. I had 3 people come out to give quotes - he not only got back to us the quickest, and had the best price, he just gave us the confidence that he was the right person for the job. We would absolutely use him again.
We have an older home that presented some issues for fencing in the backyard. There was an existing fence along one property line, and another different type fence along the back. Tim worked with us as we went through the decisions of whether to simply use those fences as part of our perimeter, or to build a second fence next to them (which seemed ridiculous, but might look funny otherwise). Our job was expensive because we wanted a number of special features, like a scalloped top, different post tops than were normally used with the scalloped tops, special gates in several places, and a shadow-box construction. Tim worked through all of these details nicely, and he and his wife even drove a truck by one day prior to installation for us to see the wood "in person" while it was still laid out on pallets. Once the decisions were made, which was quick, he got right to work and did the installation himself. We have loved the result, and I would heartily recommend Tim and his family-run company to anyone.
