Went well. Fast. Would use them again
Nov 2014
On the first day (10/28), I called my husband at 9:27 as they still had not arrived. He called them and was told they were at the paint store and would be here shortly. When they finally arrived, they began work in the living room and dining room. The first two rooms were completed, although I had the following concerns. It was an overcast day and they were painting in the dark. When I asked about using a shop light, they told me that theirs was broken. I offered ours, but they chose to leave the job and purchase one.
On the second day (10/29), I called me husband at 9:27 as the painters still had not arrived and I needed to leave to babysit my granddaughter.
On day 3 (10/30), I called them at 9:54 am to find out where they were. When they finally arrived they stated that they were having a cash flow problem and needed at check for $700 to cover the first two rooms (note: their contract clearly states payment upon completion). We paid them the $700. On day 3 (10/30), when I returned home at 3:00, they were finishing the shelving in the first room and began work in the upstairs hall (walls, ceiling, closets and doors facing hall) and downstairs foyer and hall. I had to point out that they had not sanded areas in the living room that were spackled before painting over them (we did the spackle in these 2 rooms the weekend before. They fixed this. (Upon inspecting the room on 11/5 I found that two wall socket covers were removed, but never painted or replaced. Light switches and the rest of the plugs and covers were painted over without removing and the wall switch is now stuck and clogged with the paint.) I also had to remind them to remove the mirror in the foyer and paint behind it.
On day 4 (10/31), work continued in these areas, they stripped the powder room wallpaper, and finished with the foyer, although I had to point out that the foyer closet needed to be painted. They left at the end of the day without moving any furniture back in the first two rooms. My husband and I spent the weekend moving the furniture.
On day 5 (11/3), they painted the powder room walls, painted in the foyer closet and started the master bedroom. When we returned home, my husband and I looked over the areas and found the following concerns: the foyer closet was not finished and the paint job was sloppy, the bathroom door facing the upstairs hall had spots not finished, the powder room wall had what appeared to be blobs of paint and roller fuzz stuck in the paint and one corner needed a touch up, the foyer ceiling had a long strip which needed paint, the furniture in the master bedroom was still in the middle of the room (we had to move it just to get to our dressers and bed). We marked the painting spots of concern with blue painters tape so we could show them our concerns.
On day 6 (11/4), I had to call them at 9:43 am. as they had not yet arrived. When they finally got here, I met with them and pointed out the problem areas we had identified. Mr. Stahl, Jr, went around pulling the tape down, claiming in the bathroom that this was wall imperfections, while Sr. stated that it was roller fuzz and he would correct it. When I pointed out the foyer closet, Jr. became agitated and stormed up the stairs and yanked the tape off the upstairs bathroom door. That night, they apparently sent an email to my husband requesting more money as they again were having a cash flow problem. My husband didn't see the email until the next day.
On day 7 (11/5), The painters arrived at 9:35 am, late again, and Jr. came to the house asking about the money. I called my husband, who spoke with them on the phone, stating he was on a job and would be there in about an hour. They left to go "have breakfast" and said they would be back for the check. My husband returned at 10:30 with the check, but they were still not there. He left the check on the steps and called them at 10:43 to let them know where it was. I spoke with my husband at 4:54 and he informed me that when he returned home around 4:30, they were already gone for the day.
On day 8 (11/6), I called the painters at 8:52 to find out where they were as they had not yet arrived. They arrived shortly thereafter and informed me that they would be finishing today, although I didn't see how since so much work was left to be done. I spoke to my husband at 9:39 to inform him. I returned home at about 3:15. As I was gathering parts to a baby gate I noticed a piece was missing and asked Sr. Stahl where it was. He stated that it was there. I answered that it was not and he replied it was stuck to the end. I replied it was not there, and he hollered that it wasn't there to begin with. I told him that I had just put the gates up recently and know for a fact that it was and just wanted to know where he might have put it. He stormed into the kitchen and grabbed up the gate, parts flying everywhere and yelling at me "I am not a liar!" He then called to his son, who was painting upstairs to go out for a cigarette. At 3:47, I called my husband to come home immediately, which he did, arriving about 15 minutes later. At this time, the Stahls came back in the house and began arguing with my husband and myself about the job. I pointed out that a second coat would be needed in the family room and they would need to return. He argued that they would not be back, and as I pointed out several areas that was not completely covered he slapped the roller across one area and stated the other spots were just wet. They stated they would be leaving shortly and wanted their money. My husband and I both told them that we needed to look over the job to make sure it was completed satisfactorily, and that it appeared that there was at least another days work to be done: another coat of paint in the family room, the master closet which had not even been started, the powder room, etc. Sr. Stahl shouted at me as he began rolling up the paint cloths, that they wanted their money and I could "hire someone else to come back and finish the job". Jr. Stahl began shouting from upstairs saying that if we didn't give them their money they would blacklist us. This shouting continued and my husband went up to the bedroom to talk with him. He continued to shout and swear at my husband, F-bombs flying and saying we don't know what a good paint job is, among other things that were said. Sr. Stahl continued rolling up the paint cloths, shouting to his son to just be quiet. I left at about 5:00 as things were escalating. My husband was due at his second job at 5:15, but remained until they left around 6:00 pm. During the time I was gone, Jr. Stahl confronted my husband in the bedroom, yelling and swearing at him that he wanted his money, that he was a busy man and would not be back, that we don't know what a professional paint job looks like, etc. My husband asked him several times to not talk to him in this fashion and to calm down. At some point, Jr. Stahl left the home and sat in his truck, while Sr. Stahl "finished" the painting in the closet. My husband reported that they left around 6:00 pm.
I returned home about 7 pm to discover the family room furniture still in the middle of the room. As I began to move things back, I noticed paint on my husband's leather chair from what appears to be the fabric drop cloth used to cover it. You can clearly see the imprint of the fabric in the paint. More paint was found dripped on the entertainment center, a swipe of paint from a roller on a chair cover, and paint smudges on the carpeting going up the stairs on the steps, risers, and the landing in front of the master bedroom. I also found paint splattered on 3 walls of the master bathroom where they had cleaned brushes in the master bath sink, and tools and paint still on the floor in the bathroom. (This was not a rom they had painted)
I inspected all rooms, and t

They were very prompt in responding to the estimate, I was not in a hurry to have it done, as long as it was completed by the end of the season. It took a few weeks to get a confirmed date, then he came on a Saturday and completed the job in one day, and cleaned up after himself. Very nice and professional, would recommend.
Ken and Ken Jr. did a great job. They were on time, cleaned up after themselves, and thanked me for my business.
Everything went very well. The job involved multiple rooms + Foyer + Hallways of the house. This was a big job requiring lots of sanding, priming, and multiple coats of paint on walls and trims. Ken and Ken Jr. were a great team, they were very punctual, and they got the job done on a tight schedule. Most importantly, their cost is really reasonable.

Contractor contacted me the first day I requested a quote. They gave me an approximate date for the service. They came and did a good job. They covered all of the surrounding area to avoid getting stain on anything.

I was very satisfied with the service and he was just great. When he came back the second time there wasn't much in my gutters so he charged me less. He also gave me a senior discount. I have nothing but good things to say about him.

Both jobs were done extremely well. They are also the most considerate contractors I've ever met. They cleaned up at the end of each day and left the work area spotless.
We are extremely happy with the quality of the job, the speed of completion, and their concern about our satisfaction.
Finally! Painters who are trustworthy and competant!
The men were prompt, courteous, very clean and completed the job in a timely manner. Their quote was also more in the range of what we could afford. It was a pleasure having the two inside our home and trust them while we were not present. Any questions or concerns, Ken Sr. would take care of them immediately. My wife and I are very ecstatic with the outcome and are looking forward to having them complete more painting jobs in the future. We would HIGHLY recommend these guys to everyone.
