Wood Fence Installation
Got the job done a day early. Was thorough with clean up and excess dirt from the posts. Did a pre walk around and a post walk around. Crew made sure they did exactly what we asked for. I recommend them highly. In fact they did my neighbor’s fence and another friend of ours fence. Great guys. Would hire them again.

I am so ecstatic over my new fence. I can’t rave enough about how great of a job Pickens fencing did for me. I would definitely rate them 10/10 and recommend them to all my friends and family. The guys that came to my house was so nice and polite you didn’t even know they was there when they was done that’s how great of a job they did putting it up and with clean up. If you need a fence done I would definitely calk them again.

Overall, we are very satisfied with the work performed by Pickens Fence Co. Their quality of work, and their price, cannot be matched in the Columbus, OH area. I quoted several fence companies and Pickens Fence Co. came in less expensive and were also recommended by a family member. One suggestion for future customers; try to improve upon your communication. I felt that this could have been better as there were a couple minor hiccups that occurred (nothing that negatively impacted the overall finished product though - i.e. I like to be better informed of the end-to-end process; that's all). I would highly recommend Pickens Fence Co. and would use them again if I ever needed to have a fence installed.

Back in January we moved into a new home and needed a new fence due to having 3 dogs and wanted it ASAP because taking them out on a leash is not fun let alone in the winter time. <br /> We called several fence companies over one weekend and the average bid was somewhere around $3500 and would take about a week and a half to get started. John came out on a Tuesday, gave the lowest bid of everybody and could start on a Thursday. Just like he said John's son and his friend came out and started worked on Thursday and finished that Friday and it couldn't be better. <br /> Not only were we satisfied with the fence but they also put in a gate on our deck at our request which was very nice. Keep in mind that when it comes to job start times it's just two guys doing the job. <br /> I would recommend Pickens Fence to anybody looking for a new fence. <br />

Larry came out to do estimate for fence installation on August 18, 2014. We signed a contract, gave a down payment and set appointment for installation of 10/7/14. The 7th of October came and they did not come out so I called Larry and he said they could not come out until the middle of October. I informed him that he had said the 7th and that I wanted it done as soon as possible since I had been waiting since August to have this completed. Larry got back with me and let me know the installers had lost my paperwork and I said I no longer wanted them to do the fence job. I put a stop payment on the check for the down payment which cost me $30. I contacted Larry to let him know of the stop payment and he said he would mail me a check to reimburse me for the $30. That was 2 weeks ago and I have not received any check. I found them to be very unprofessional and they never returned any of my phone calls I always had to call them.

I previously met with John Pickens last year for a quote on a different style and height of fence. John was very informative and helpful if helping me decide on the type of fencing. At the time we were getting quotes from several different fencing companies and Pickens really stood out above the others. Called them back this year for another quote with type and height changes - per john's previous suggestions - and signed a contract to start project approx July week 1. Will update once work is complete. <br /> <br />*****10/25/14 UPDATE******* <br />Started calling a few weeks before work was scheduled to begin in July week 1. Left several messages but never received call backs. Finally tracked down another contact number - John's cell phone - and got ahold of john. He told me they were running behind and pushed the start date back another two weeks. Work finally started 7/22/14 & was completed 7/25/14. Initially I was happy with the quality and can understand the delays but I'm less than satisfied with the quality of the wood used. Within a week several boards and posts split, further inspection showed many imperfections and less than quality pieces of wood were used. One gate also started sagging with two weeks. Fence has a one year warranty and plan to have them make good on that warranty. Will update again when that time comes. <br /> <br />*****8/20/15 UPDATE******* <br />Warranty work was completed to our satisfaction, but this was not without additional messages left with no call backs and an overall lack of communication. We are pleased with the overall results and outcome but it was somewhat of a process to get to that point. With that said, they do not use subcontractors and the owners son, Ryan, takes pride in his work and was always more than accommodating.

Only thing that downgraded them to a B was the timing. I think they may have bitten off more than they could chew, because they kept pushing the start date back.

Pickens plowing services are great! We understand that they have to take care of their big contracts (apartment blocks and malls) before they can get to us, but they always get here when we need them. The price is right, too! I know from experience that it takes me hours to shovel my own driveway. For $30, Pickens has it plowed in less than 5 minutes. Perfect!

The posts were installed within a few days of the deal. The concrete needed to dry for several days because the weather turned a little cold. Then the company got side tracked for a few days because of another job. The owner called me to explain the situation. His crew arrived on 11/12 and installed the fence in about six hours. The owner stopped by to apologize for the delay. Because of the delay he upgraded my fence boards to cedar at no additional expense. <br />

We have used Pickens Fence for several years for our snow removal for a long paved driveway. They consistently do a great job. This winter they came out seven times because of all the snow we got and each time the driveway was neat and clean and easy to navigate.

John showed up with his crew almost 2 months after we had contracted with another company (The Fence Guy, who told him "to just take the job! He didn't have time to get to it!") He wasn't really familiar with what we had contracted to do but made sure that he was clear about what we wanted before he proceeded with the work, He even built the gates because they would be a better quality for the job. His crew was very professional with the tear out and clean up and there was no damage to a recently seeded lawn area. He only charged me what was quoted by the other company even though it was lower than his price might have been. We were very pleased with the work done. <br />

As you can see the gates were a major change of this project instead of the traditional log type gate. As a small company we understand that at times schedules can be overwhelming. We try to prioritize our projects. There are many factors such as weather, suppliers, permits, landscaping projects, and so much more that constantly change our installation schedule. Once in awhile there is a client we just can never seem to get the job started. It happens and you still want to provide quality service and the last thing you want to do is throw in a job just to get it done. We were planning to adopt a rescue dog and he was going to be available much sooner than we had anticipated. We needed to have a fenced back yard in order to adopt our dog and were in a pickle because it was the first of December, very cold, and not the best fence-building weather. We had a few companies come out and give us estimates. Mr. Pickens gave us the best price and was also the most understanding of our desire to get the fence in time to get our little dog. Mr. Pickens took the time to explain in detail the process and what minimum temperatures were necessary for quality post placement. We felt completely up-to-date on the progress at all times. On Sunday morning, the day before the posts were scheduled to be placed, Mr. Pickens arrived at our house. He explained that the weather prediction for the next day (Monday) would be unfavorable to begin the job and knowing how badly we wanted the fence and the favorability of the weather at the moment, he was arriving early to do the work. Needless to say, we were thrilled! A full week before puppy adoption date we had a beautiful, strong fence in place. We were very grateful for a great job and would heartily recommend Pickens Fence Co.

Overall, it went very poorly. In fact, I'm astounded at how badly I was treated considering the good reviews Pickens has had from other customers. Be sure to read to the end to enjoy the final insult. After getting estimates from three fence companies that have good records with Angie's list, on July 23, 2008, I signed a contract with John and Tammy Pickens, the owners of Pickens Fence. I paid them a $600 deposit on a total estimate of $1,660. He said the job would take a couple of days and he could get to it in three weeks. Three weeks came and went. No fence. Then four weeks. Then five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine weeks. In that time I emailed and got a reply saying the company had a few jobs ahead of mine. In week eight, I called and spoke to Mrs. Picking who was very apologetic and promised something would happen in the following week. Finally, nine weeks and two days after signing the contract, the picking Fence crew appeared on September. 26th. A mere six weeks AFTER the job was supposed to have been completed. They tore out my old fence and left, leaving my back yard open to the public park that abuts the rear of my property. I strung yellow caution tape on makeshift posts to keep people out of my yard. Two days later, the crew returned to drop off construction materials. The day after that, they finally dug postholes and cemented in new fence-posts for the back yard. They said the concrete would have to set for a few days before they could finish the fence. So my backyard was still open to anyone in the park. A couple of days turned into two weeks with no further sign of the fence company. My backyard remained open to anyone in the park. My fence still was not completed after more than 11 weeks. Finally, on Oct. 13, the crew finished the back fence and gate, almost 12 weeks from the time I signed the contract. Sometime in October, the crew installed a few replacement posts on my side fences, but two of them were done with temporary post holders, not the permanent concrete bases specified in the contract. On Oct. 15, more side posts were installed, but the concrete was simply poured in dry. I could reach into the earth at the base of the fence-post and pull out handfuls of dry concrete mix. The fence posts were loose and easily wiggled. On Oct. 20, John Pickens showed up to remove the old fence materials. I pointed out the dry cement and he poured water into the holes. I paid him off even though I was dissatisfied with the side fence posts. I was tired of all of the headaches and stress he had caused me and wanted him gone.

DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE ARE A VERY SMALL COMPANY AND WE WERE BLESSED WITH A LOT OF WORK THIS YEAR WE DID FALL BEHIND IN INSTALLATION. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH WE DO NOT CALL OUR CUSTOMERS EVERY DAY OR WEEK TO STAY IN TOUCH, WE DO KEEP IN CONTACT. WE ARE UPFRONT ABOUT BEING A SMALL COMPANY AND WE ALSO MENTION THAT WE REFUSE TO HIRE EXTRA INSTALLATION CREWS TO GET CAUGHT UP. WE WILL NOT SUBSTITUTE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. THIS MEMBER'S FINAL PROJECT OF REPLACING THE BACK FENCE LINE HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND LOOKS GREAT. AS FOR THE EXISTING FENCE REPAIR, WE INSTALLED A FEW NEW POSTS AS STATED ON THE CONTRACT AND THERE IS NOTHING TEMPORARY ABOUT THE INSTALLATION. AS FOR OTHER ITEMS OF COMPLAINT, THEY SIMPLY WERE NEVER BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION AND WERE NOT PART OF THE CONTRACT. THE GAS CARDS MENTIONED WERE A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION AND WAS AN UNFORTUNATE SITUATION WHERE WE PURCHASED THE GIFT CARDS FROM A LOCAL SCHOOL FUNDRAISER THE CARDS WERE OLD AND HAD DECREASED IN VALUE. THAT WAS UNFORTUNATE AND HAS SINCE BEEN CORRECTED. ONCE AGAIN THE MEMBER CHOSE TO BLAST US ON ANGIE'S LIST AND DID NOT CONTACT PICKENS FENCE CO. DIRECTLY TO MAKE US AWARE OF THE SITUATION."

GREAT!!! John listened to what I was trying to accomplish (we are planning on selling in the next year and didn't want to spent a fortune) and installed a great looking fence that will last in the neighborhood of 15 years for a reasonable price. He and his crew even secured our back yard so our dog couldn't get out between the time they dismantled the old fence and installed the new fence. Great job and I would recommend him to anyone!
