When I made out the check, I was making it out to Pioneer Roofing because the invoice was on Pioneer Roofing letter head. Micah asked me to make it out to him instead because he was in charge of the project. When I realized how much was left unfinished, I tried to reach him on his cell phone which was broken. I returned the next day and waited for him to return to finish the job, but he never showed up. He left his materials, his saw horses and all the construction debris in the driveway. He never came back to pick them up. I sent him several e-mails. He never answered them. My husband fell ill two weeks after that Saturday, August 17th, so I did not pursue the dormer situation further at that time because I figured that it would be ugly, and I didn't have the time. I did visit the cottage during the next few months several times and noted that around the chimney and the dormers it was still leaking down into the dining room. In November, a new roof was installed by another roofing company. The flashing that Micah had used was the wrong type of flashing and had not been completed at the ends of the dormers. He should have used step flashing. All of his flashing had to be removed and replaced. on the dormers and chimney. For the $2,005. I paid to Micah, I got partial siding, using the wrong partiplank. The aluminum siding on the house is smooth, he used a wood grain partiplank. I mentioned that the two did not match and he told me that smooth hardiplank was no longer made. That is not true. The flashing all had to be taken out and replaced and was incomplete. The dormers were never painted. Most of the $2,005. should be returned to me. I don't know if the owner of Pioneer Roofing will involve himself. He is welcome to come by and look at the still incompleted dormers. I had to pay for removal of old flashing which "was a wet mess" and the wrong kind of flashing and installation of new flashing.

Updated 4/28/14:

April 18th, I spoke with a contractor that will be finishing the dormers that Pioneer Roofing started.

This contractor listed other problems with Pioneer's work:
1. House wrap and tape were not used. The hardy plank, partially installed has to be removed so taht the wrp can be installed under the boards.
2. The windows were not flashed.
So, with this new information, it appears that the whole job has to be redone. The improper flashing around the 2 dormers and chimney had to be completed, the hardy plank was grained, not smooth, and does not match the smooth texture of the rest of the house, the dormers were not painted, of course, because they were never completed. But painting the dormers was part of the estimate. With the removal of the plank siding, installation of house wrap and tape, everything that Pioneer did, had to be redone. Plus, I had to pay to have his debris moved from the middle of the driveway.
