So, so. No obvious leak was found. We'll look again during cooling season.

Initial replacement the guy's helper called in sick so he and his wife argued in my attic while they tried to manage the replacement. Not very professional but the house cooled off, so whatever. First year required a recharge, they found and fixed a leak or said they did. Warrantied, so not ideal that they had to fix it, but whatever its fixed. Second year required another recharge. Another leak apparently. Talked to tech, described history. He couldn't be bothered to go even look at the (as identified by Texas AirZone within 30 seconds of entering the attic) leak. Was certain it would require an expensive leak detection process to even start considering warranty repair. Didn't bring any refrigerant to an obvious refrigerant leak. Said he would meet another tech and get refrigerant and I never saw him again. Called and emailed their office with no results. Called Texas AirZone instead and they were Johnny-on-the-spot. Identified the issue, got me recharged to last until the warranty service was performed. After repeated emails I got zero feedback from Plano AirConditioning and Heating. I gave up on them. I'm getting Texas AirZone to do the work and happily paying for quality service that will likely last forever. Texas AirZone guy also mentioned that the system could've been leak tested with Nitrogen before the initial recharge and all of this avoided. This is standard practice and was skipped entirely. Do not do business with Plano AirConditioning and Heating if you value your time, money, and comfort.

We have a contract with them to come and check the a/c's and heaters during specific seasons. The whole service for the whole year is like $200. You get like 10% of anything that they, if they have to do any repairs or anything. Well when I started using them I would have given them an A, but last year I'd probably give them a D. I'm probably just gonna let this contract go out and find somebody else. I think what happened was it was owned by somebody and he retired and the kids took over and they're just not doing a good job, they're just not taking care of customers. The guy came and he did the inspection and he told me he said one of my air conditioners sounded like it was about to go out. So he called the office and he had them check and it was under warranty for, it had a ten year warranty or something like that but not for service. He said you got the warranty but not for service you need to check with the people who actually put it in. Okay so I checked with the people who put it in and they say no way I don't have a service warranty so I called them back and I said okay now you know I don't know which air conditioner it was but asked the the guy. Well he couldn't remember, he didn't write it down. So then another guy came out to change out the part and he couldn't figure out which one it was and he ended up changing some low product air conditioner we have for the garage and charging me $800 and I'm like no I'm not paying $800 for this and so then it just kind of went around in circles. And the guy who was there to fix it he didn't know because it was the other guy that said something was wrong with one of the air conditioners he couldn't figure out which one. Then that guy hemmed and hawed around because he didn't remember. He's got, you know, a jillian air conditioner things. Anyhow it just kind of went around in circles, they came they put the old stuff back in that little Podunk air conditioner and it was just kind of stupid so I called my brother in law and I was like what is the deal with this company.

Brady is our guy. This company is awesome and completed the job just how they said they would. They were better priced and had financing to boot. The company truly knows what customer service is all about. We will never go with another company. Brady was with us every step of the way..always answering our phone calls and explaining everything.
The appointment was scheduled on the next business day. The Tech arrived on time. Performed the minor fixes but more importantly he explained the reason behind the problem in a way that I was able to understand. I am happy that we chose Plano Air for our new units.

Air conditioner stopped working on a Tuesday evening. Contacted Plano Air Conditioning and Heating, from whom I purchased the unit in 2006, at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. They advised someone would be dispatched between 3-5:00 p.m. that day. They then called to let me know they could be out earlier. When I arrived home, Dean was already there waiting for me. He fixed the problem in about 30 minutes and then explained what had caused the problem and showed me the faulty switch. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He then told me my unit was still under warranty and there was no charge for the service. I appreciate that he had all that information in advance of the service call. Truly made me feel like the company values their customers.
They installed a new system when mine was beyond help. That
all seemed to go okay but what is it about the heating and air conditioning
industry? Every time I try to help myself, educate myself, and make informed
decisions, I run into this wall as though the whole thing is shrouded in
mystery.
When I had to buy a new system, no matter how many ways I tried to shop and
compare, there was no helpful information anywhere. I even joined CONSUMER
REPORTS for the purpose of research and to try to ascertain if I was getting a
decent deal on my new system. I finally just had to take a leap of faith, as I
got absolutely nowhere, despite the many hours I put into it (maybe I'm
stupid), but that was my experience several years ago.
The installation went ok. No complaints. The cost was about $10-11 thousand
(choke). But I was not ever informed of a number of things. First, the salesman
did not think to tell me that the filter for my unit costs $120-160, and that
the filter will probably have to be replaced at least once/year, but so far it
seems it has usually been twice/year! I've recently been told by another LENNOX
company that it's important to make sure that my system can support use of a
filter with a "MERV 16" rating, but I'm fairly sure that is what
Plano Air has been installing each time. Now, it may be the right filter, but I
did not know it was something that I, as a consumer who tried to get good
information ahead of purchase, was supposed to be wary of and be watching for.
As I said, the whole thing seems shrouded in mystery.
My response to the high filter cost was to shop for my own. In the past, I
didn't bother to do this but I did last year; and, once upon a time, Plano Air
agreed to price match what I could find on-line. However, they will no longer
do that.
To make the filter question even more perplexing, I called Plano Air this year
to get my maintenance service for the summer. The price has gone up
significantly since last year. And, as already stated, they will no longer do a
price match on the filter. So when I called again and asked about the $55
dollar "tune up" which they have on their website, I was told that
all they do is "come out and look at my system" and that it was not a
comparable service to the one for which I was quoted; for 2 visits/year for
about $150. (I wondered if they down-play that so much to people who call and
request that service.)
But the last straw came when I asked how much the filter for my unit would cost
if I have them provide it. I wanted to do some comparison shopping. I was
flat-out told that she did not know the cost and that the techs have that
information. So I asked her if she could have one of the techs call me with the
information. Again, I was flat-out told that she could NOT. I ended the phone call
by saying that I guessed I would have to find myself another heating and air
conditioning company. She did not voice any protest.
In my opinion, that is a highly suspect way of doing business. I called another
company and was given all kinds of helpful information, including the cost of
getting my filter from them. Additionally, their year of service is 3
calls/year for at least $20 less than what Plano Air quoted me; while Plano
Air's planned service is for only 2 calls.
I'm sure anyone can say that I am comparing apples to oranges, and the service
provided by X is not the same as the service provided by Y, and that one
company's information isn't right but the other company's is, and so none of
what I'm saying is relevant. But that would be just my point... there is too
much room for these companies to sell me a bill of goods. And when they won't
even price a filter for me; for the very unit THEY installed on my property,
well; I have to conclude that they are the ones who are not trustworthy. I do not
plan to use them again.

***UPDATE***
I am writing this update on 7/14/14. I was contacted by Elisabeth (or Elizabeth) shortly after posting my initial review. She offered to attempt to make things right and she was polite on the phone.

I again reiterated to her that my negative comments in the above review were not because of price increases, per se, nor about the fact that they felt they could not provide a price match on the kind of filter my system uses. Those things I understand completely and told her I was sure she could understand a consumer wanting to "shop around" for the best values. My concern was the lack of helpful information, and what seemed like a lack of normal concern for a long-standing customer.

I understood her to have been telling me that the person with whom I spoke on the phone was a new employee. I took it all to mean that I should have been given the cost of obtaining filters from them. Elizabeth offered me a discount for the trouble but I had already hired another company for my maintenance this year. She offered to extend the discount to the time I might again be in need of their services. I did assure her that I would write an addendum for this review when I was next on the angieslist.com site; which is what I am doing now.

On a related but slightly different topic, upon inspection of my high-end HVAC system which is less than 4 years old, the coolant was significantly low and the coils were found to have a leak or leaks. LENNOX at first told the tech that it was not under warranty, and in my recollection, it was supposed to have a ten year warranty (which is why I have been especially careful to get regular maintenance done). The tech said he pressed the issue and they agreed it was under warranty, but only for another year! Nevertheless, the part was covered but the labor was over $1,000. I was not happy to have to put so much money into a system that we paid so much for, that has been properly maintained, which is still quite new, and has a warranty.

Additionally, now, I have a new problem and have to find my original sales paperwork in order to figure out who is right regarding the warranty period. The new A/C company seemed shocked that this "high-end" unit would have been sold with only a 5 year warranty when they sell theirs with ten. I suppose I'm sunk if I can't find that receipt...

"Hello, [member name removed]! I am sorry to read of your poor experience with our company. Unfortunately, it appears there was a mis-communication on our end and you were given a lack of information. I do apologize. Our maintenance agreement, with renewal discounts is $148.50 with 2 complete HVAC (indoor + outdoor) cleanings a year. It includes 10% off all parts & repair needed, plus numerous benefits too long to mention here. It is indeed our best deal and value, but due to rising gas costs, we did have to increase by $10 a tuneup this year. Our website special is another option for those not looking for a contract. We do a basic cleaning of the outdoor system with a 21 point system check for a one time basis tuneup. As you can see, it is a different service, but I assure you that we do not lie about what we do. As a family owned company for several generations, we are very up front and honest as we want continued customer relations rather than a one time drive by, never to see you again. Our team did fail when speaking to you & I apologize. We would never intentionally lie or mislead anyone, so we feel horrible you feel we did. I will call you this morning and hope to resolve this situation. If for some reason we are unable to speak, please call me direct at 972-527-3840. We are well aware of how difficult it is to find a good, honest, reliable HVAC company these days. If for some reason, we cannot help you with our company, I will help you find another HVAC company that will suit your needs in an honest manner. Thank you for the opportunity to correct this situation and I look forward to talking soon, Elizabeth Durham-Bailey General Manager, Plano Air"

Overall it went great, they were able to properly service my air conditioner even though it turned out later on that one of the heating ducts had been unsecured so the air conditioner was going into the attic rather my living room. They immediately responded to this and came out to fix it within the week. They were very apologetic and came out twice to make sure everything was working the way it should. I'd highly recommend them.
