In the final throes of selling our 1929 house, home inspector's radon test came back at 6.0 (above threshold). I searched NJ DEP for information, and discovered they have a list of radon mitigation specialists licensed in NJ.
James Musarro was professional, courteous and very understanding of our stress and concerns. He answered all of our questions about radon, what the 6.0 result meant, how it might not have tested high when we bought the house in 2005 but now did. Everything I could think of, he talked through with us. Once we were comfortable with the need to install a system, he explained what his recommendation was, why, and how it would work, as well as the cost. We discussed his access needs and he made some suggestions regarding a less conspicuous location (the system is installed in basement interior, but venting runs out wall and up alongside to roof), so it wouldn't affect the charm of our old house. He explained regarding permit requirements and costs for our town; at our option, he took care of obtaining the permits for us and we paid for them separately from his quoted price as agreed ($147 total).
Understanding the pressure to finish so we could proceed to closing, James booked us for installation 2 days later. James and his assistant showed up on time, even called ahead to confirm he was arriving. He looked at the possible locations and discussed them with us. The installation went quickly, he showed us how it worked and how we'd be able to tell it was working, and he left a testing system set up to confirm it was functioning correctly. The work was very neat and they cleaned up the work area thoroughly; it was as quiet as he'd described. The installation outside was very clean and discreet as well. Friday night, James called again to confirm a 1 hour window arrival time; his electrician came on Saturday, on time, and made the final connection to the electrical panel.
We are grateful to Professional Radon Systems Inc. and Mr. Musarro. Very professional, competent, efficient and reliable. But as important, we think, they were also sensitive to our pressure points and concerns about the dangers of radon, and went above and beyond in customer service to make sure to educate us about radon and about their product so we could make an informed decision.
