DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They use high pressure sales tactics to get you to sign a contract and collect the deposit, then take forever to actually do the work. My contract included a warranty and service agreement. They were supposed to return within a year to address any warped boards & stain the deck. I've tried countless times to get this work scheduled via phone calls and text messages, but they always say they need to check with production and get back to me. They never did. It's now been 18 months and my deck still hasn't been stained. I guess their reviews got so bad they changed their name to American Family Professional Remodeling. Same people. Same BS. STAY AWAY!!!

Very poorly, by the way BBB cannot compel the company to do right, so no help there from previous post. Also the company promised that they would send someone to look at the issues we had from my previous review. They never returned my email after I gave them my availability. Had to call emergency plumber on holiday weekend to stop leak. According to the plumber the leak was due to the shower valve being improperly installed. This left us with extensive water damage. Currently our entire bathroom is being disassembled, which some things are breaking due to the way the items were installed, like our granite vanity. Basically we are looking at another entire renovation due to the incompetency of the contractor. Since after notifying the company of the leak and damage and not getting a proper response to resolve the issue immediately. We chose to submit a claim through our home owners insurance, which allows us to use contractors that will fix the issues timely and properly. We are leaving it to our insurance to work with this companies insurance for payment of repairs. If you have had any work done by this company I encourage you to double check behind them and call the plumber sooner, instead of waiting for this company to do the right thing. They knew we had a leak when we reported it back in July, and said it was minor and that they resolved it in August and then never came back to inspect after we requested them to fix the issue. They are ripping out flooring not only in the bathroom and drywall, but also in the room next to the bathroom. And we have a puddle under our house.

It really, really, really, really sucked. The biggest problem was workers only showing up one or two days a week for months. Communication from the company was virtually non existent. We have had to constantly hound the company for information with the typical response being no response. We get sympathetic responses from the employees (they just work there) but zero from anyone in the company including Brian Whatley...The supposed owner. We want every penny of the $18,500 we paid back for the crap we have had to go through with this company. The roof was replaced on our garage, but the roof over part of our garage now leaks!. They have been notified and have done nothing. We call day after day to get nothing from management. AND the company never applied for any permits for any of the work done on our property. PLUS we found out that any contractor doing business in NC MUST have a license for any project over $30,000.00. Our project was for $37,000.00. In my opinion this company is dishonest, underhanded and doing business under questionable circumstances. I have heard from some of their past employees that they did not get the proper permits for work on other jobs. Shady, shady, shady.....Overall there does not appear to be anyone at the higher levels of the company that knows how to run a contracting company. The exterior of our garage is still unfinished. We have construction materials and a dumpster that are just sitting in our yard collecting dust waiting for Proper Contracting to get off of their ***.

not well Proper left to never return and promised to refund some of the money but never did. i believe most of the good reviews on here are from family and friends. in the picture this is how they left my kitchen and bath. they also wanted to put LVP over the tile and wood floor. RUN, Stay away. Home adviser is not doing their job if they recommend this company
Response from Proper Contracting, LLC.
"Mr. [Member Name Removed], We have repeatedly dealt with your grievances on a number of platforms, including the BBB, who closed your case. Your project was for over $100,000 and the details of the complaintsyou state change with every platform you review us on. The truth is we were fired by you after you repeatedly harassed our crews. We performed the demo and rough ins only (hence your pictures), then you cut ties. Your continued pursuit to persecute us for the issues you created are borderline slander, and we sincerely request you cease and desist."

Overpriced and not worth the headache. A home office remodel consisting of paint, light demo, electrical and the construction of two floating book shelves took almost a month to complete. Lack of quality control from the start of the project required extensive communication. I’ll give them credit as they tried to make it right. Be wary of the professional estimate and “construction meeting” as that did not equal high quality execution in the delivery of service.

"Mr. [Member Name Removed], we apologize you feel that way about the execution of your project. Our project managers work hard to navigate the intricacies of supply orders, crew scheduling, and unique project requirements, all which are made increasingly difficult during the current climate. We do our best to make everything as streamlined as possible, but understand that things aren't always perfect. We appreciate your feedback, and will use it to improve moving forward."

I had a very old school almost cardboard ceiling in both my bathrooms. Very 50's style and completely outdated and frankly falling down. Proper Contracting was able to come out to me and work around my schedule as a busy working mom, which was the first sign that I had called the right people. Their specialist came out and was probably the most professional and personably person I've encounter recently, honestly if they had not been there to do a job I would have had them stay for dinner! Not only were they able to fix the ceiling but I decided to use them for the entire bathroom remodels. They have an amazing staff that helped with the entire design process to make my bathrooms beautiful but also functional keeping my kids in mind. I can not express my gratitude and over-all thrill with this company. Not at all what I expected from a contractor, definitely felt more like family. If your not calling them then you might as well not bother at all!!

The contract was signed July 16, 2020. Supplies delivered to home August 24, 2020 concrete pallet and wood left in driveway work started August 31, 2020 not by Pro Contracting but by Miller Fencing LLC. Was never told of this company until they showed up at my door. They completed the fence in 2 days but the handles to open the door was not sturdy and did not installl brackets to secure the one side of the double gate so the wind wood not blow open. The additional items had to be bought ourselves to make sure double gate was sturdy. They also left the concrete and extra materials in the driveway. Most of concrete was hard and unusable since delievery was 1 week before project started and it rained alot. Clearly they ordered to much concrete we have 18 bags on our property still!!!! and wood this cause the fence to be expensive. Plus I called ever week to check status of when they would start. I am glad I have my fence, but will not be using them again.

We are about halfway through this job. Overall it has gone very well. This is a 150-year-old house and a 70-year-old guest house. Guest house almost completed, some electrical work remains. Original wood floors were completely redone in main house, looks great. Electrical work, some cabinetry and painting remain. With an old house, everyone expects unknowns to come up. Important not to let such work unduly disrupt the schedule. We are working together to get this done. Owner Brian Whatley did a great job of keeping us informed.

Good at first I was going to get a wooden fence done but they sales person told me the price of wood is high and showed me alternatives as options. I went with a vinyl fence that will last me longer and easier to maintain. The budget for project did go a little over but they helped me finance the whole thing to pay a low amount a month.

I spoke to a canvasser early last month and got an estimate from a salesman who arrived punctually at the time specified by the canvasser. Later that month my new tile floor was installed quickly and professionally with little interruptions to my daily life.

I could not be happier with the work being done. After the 9th time of my dogs running off, me and my family decided to get a fence to keep the pups safe. A friend suggested Proper and I'm so glad they did. Not only was the work done fast, when the exact style of fence was on backorder, Taylor found a replacement that I loved even more! Now to convince my family to add an addition to the house!

My experience with them was absolutely terrible. I understand we're in the middle of a pandemic so I was very patient with them because of that reason. Timeline: Early June 2020- I requested a quote for a new deck and someone came out to take the measurements 22 June 2020- A contractor came out to confirm the details and a contract was signed and a 50% deposit was paid. The contract states you can refund after 3 days of signing the contract and after the 3 days, you would have to request cancelation. If cancelation is approved by them you would have to pay a 15% cancelation fee. End of July 2020- Haven't heard a word from them since signing the contract so I decided to call just to get a status update on where we're at with the deck.materials ordered? A builder assigned to my job? Anything. The receptionist finally picked up the phone and the only information she could provide as its still in the process. Mid-August 2020- I call back with no answer again for days and multiple voicemails then I finally talked to the receptionist. After stating concerns of the lack of communication from them they tell me someone is coming out to assess and begin. OK. Someone comes out later that day and all they did was another measurement for a quote. After explaining that already happened they replied with they don't have the previous information and knew nothing about it. they left and could give no timeline on when things would get started. 3rd week of August 2020- I call the actual person who came out (sales rep) the second time to do a quote and asked him what the status of the project is. He told me that they are working on ordering the material and to call him back in a week. I call him back in a week and no answer. About 10 days later I finally talk to him and he tells me there's a problem with the materials being ordered. He couldn't give me any details on the problem and no expected time of a solution. I then call the company and after days of no pickup and voicemails, I finally talk to the receptionist. I know they screen my calls because when they answer the phone they address me by my name without me telling them who I am. I state my concerns again and bring up the fact that they are giving me the run-around and I won't to cancel the project and get my money back. The receptionist gives me her managers number and after talking to him about how displeased I am and how no one is communicating with me. Also, how no materials have been ordered and the contract was signed back in June. He tells me that the non-order is not accurate and the materials actually have been ordered and the receptionist will call you about the details, ok we'll see. Later that afternoon the receptionist call me and tells me that the materials will be delivered in a couple of days and the job will begin shortly. Two days later the materials are delivered. 2nd Week of September- The materials are still sitting in my driveway with no one from the company checking up on it, giving me a call about it or doing an inventory to make sure it is the right stuff. The supplies sat in my drive way for over 3 weeks getting rained on and wet from the sprinklers to the point where the wood started to grow mold. We call them back and they tell us that our job is NOW scheduled to begin 18 September 2020. 18 September 2020- We call them to make sure that the builder was on their way to FINALLY begin. They tell us that something happened were they had to fire the assigned builder just that morning for complaints of unsatisfactory work. At that point I call the manager requesting my money back. He tells me they can't do that and they found someone just now to build the deck and they will be on the way today. Ok we'll see. Finally a contractor (not from the company) actually showed up and they say they can begin the next morning. Next morning they begin the project and half way through there's another issue. The materials that was delivered was actually for another project the company had and wrong materials were there for my project. The contractor had to spend their own money to buy the right materials to finish the job and there was also way too much cement that was left. After the builders finished the left over cement (40ish 80lbs bags) was left in my drive way and they have yet to remove it. The builders were asking me is the company going to come out and inspect the work. No one from the company ever did but the next day after the job was complete they're calling me up asking for payment. This was the worst experience I've ever had with any contract company. I recommend AGAINST Proper Contracting wholeheartedly. Definitely not a professional business. I've should of took more time reading the fine print of their contract as-well because it also states you cannot sue the company for anything and there is no guaranteed refund after 3 days of signing. You won't experience how bad they are within those 3 days.

Poorly. Communication from the contractor was little to none, we were never provided drawings or design ideas prior to the demolition. They told us, "you have to let us work, we have a year warranty on work," I was not sure on what since they did not have any information on what we wanted. After 174 days, and you would think the quality would be good since they took their time, well and having to return materials, because they kept ordering the wrong ones, but it was not. We still are waiting on the shower door to be installed properly (they installed it tilted, so the door doesn't close properly), the shower leaks and is missing parts (we can't even use the shower properly), their is paint all over the bathroom, but not on the walls where it is supposed to be, the vanity drawers still hit the molding (that is because they would not go to a lumber yard to get the correct molding), the grout is cracking, vanity drawers were put together wrong and leaving screws piercing through the bottoms, the vanity is about 6" higher than it should be (think kitchen counter height and not bathroom height), the towel bar was jammed in (which they did come back and correct, along with the shelf we asked for), the splash guard on the vanity is about 1/8" too big and instead of cutting it to the proper size they installed it hoping that we wouldn't notice. January 2020 we signed the contract, July 2020 they claim they finished, August they touched up a couple of things (but not the major issues, like the LEAKING Shower) and since I have not heard from them again after calling. I will have to hire someone else to make it right. I would not recommend them.

Working with Proper Contracting was a constant struggle of false promises, lack of respect for our home and yard, unfinished projects, and highly inferior painting. We constantly had to go behind their work only to find problems (we are still finding them). Initially, we felt that things went well, but they became less motivated to provide quality work as time passed, eventually leaving with an unfinished punch list. It took a month to complete and fix painting that was highly inferior. We talked many times with the contractor about the painting and it didn't improve. Paint brushes were cleaned in my kitchen sink, and my furniture and floor had paint on it, which I couldn't remove. We were initially told that the project would take 3-4 weeks, and it took 8 weeks. Constant promises of "you will be back in on X date" never materialized until we forced it. I still lose sleep and worry that I'm going to find a major issue that wasn't done correctly. These are nice guys who work hard and are motivated to provide renovation services in our area. Unfortunately, their system of quality and follow up falls short. They addressed and fixed some major problems in our home, many of which came up unexpectedly. However, the aspects of their work I mentioned above made it a very unpleasant experience.
