Paid for the security door and it's installation in full. 3 weeks later and I still do not have a door installed. Numerous calls and messages left have went unanswered. Promises of a next day installation after demanding a refund, no show and no call....These people are unbelievable!! DO NOT HIRE

It was great. The guy who installed the window really knew what he's doing. He fixed the window that was installed incorrectly. The price was really good.

My experience with them was the last. They left crude all around the inside of the window. It wasn't a clean job. They came on time but they are still irrigating through the window; it was just a croppy job.

This job involved new construction for both doors so I wanted the installer to arrive earlier than 10:00. I talked to several individuals at the company but could not get any help on this issue. I even asked to speak with the owner but the said he was out of town. The excuse was that the installer had to go to the warehouse to get the doors before going to a customers house. Not a good reason to me. Every major thing I've done to my home the installers had to pick up the materials before coming to my house and they were at 8:00. The installer arrived on time and had every thing he needed to do the job. The front door was installed in about 3/12 hours with out damage to my walls or molding. He cleaned up very well around the inside and outside of the house. The side door was installed in about the same amount of time. There was some damage to the drywall around the door on the inside of the house and the installer did not caulk around the molding like he did the front door.

When I called the company about it they gave me a hard time about sending someone out to patch the holes because I signed the paper work. The second person I talked to said someone was coming out the next day but instead I got a phone call saying I should not have signed the paper work. I explained to her that I understood that but the holes were put there by the installer and they should repair them. I told her I had pictures so she had me email them to her. When no one called me back I called them again they were still trying not to send some one out. When I told Roz that the money for the doors was being provided by a grant and I was not going to approve final payment until the holes were fixed she arranged for someone to come out the next day. It took the guy 15min to patch the holes and caulk around the door.

I asked for the owner to give me a call because I wanted to talk to about their customer service but have yet to hear from him.

I had work done by this company some years ago. I did not have any problems. So I did not consult Angie's list prior to my purchase. My sister had work done by the same company several years ago without any problems. I am assuming the people I encountered this time are all fairly new employees. Hopefully with their increasing tenure they will experience improved professionalism and customer service capability. Currently they are lacking in both areas. Below I have recounted my recent experience. I am posting it to prevent others from my same disappointment and frustration. The installers were 2.5 hours late. They arrived to my house at 6:30 pm. The appointment time was between 1PM and 4 PM. They did not call me. I had to call and inquire about their late arrival. When the installation was completed, based on my previous experience with the company, I noticed some definite problems: (1)The steel door was not hung appropriately (2) There was a gap between the casing at the top of the door which revealed the door's steel frame. (3) A closer had not be attached on the storm door (4) There was an uneven exposed area on the threshold of the doorway which could be considered a trip hazard. All these concerns were brought to the Installers attention. The Installer was not able to address my concerns, because he did not have the necessary supplies or equipment in his personal vehicle. He gave me suggestions on how I could correct the concerns myself. That same evening, I called the after hour number and the sales representative to voice my complaints about the installed doors. I was told to call back first thing in the morning on the next business day. As directed, I made numerous calls to the office. My calls resulted in busy signals or were sent directly to voice mail. I finally was able to reach the Office Manager (Kevin). I recounted my concerns about the installed doors. I made it very clear that the Installer did not listen to my verbalized concerns during the time of the installation. Based on my dissatisfaction with the relationship with the original Installer, I requested that the original installer not be sent back to my home. The day after I spoke with the Office Manager Kevin, the original installer came to my house in his personal vehicle again( I assumed he did not have the necessary supplies or equipment. It was the same personal vehicle from the day of the installation). I did not allow him ( the original installer) to enter my home. I called the office and inquired about the set appointment for the day prior to Thanksgiving. I was told that there were no Installers working the day before Thanksgiving. I was totally frustrated. I called back and got a different person on the phone who listened to my concerns. The person that listened to me had long term experience working in the business. I was able to get an appointment with a different service technician the next day (The day prior to Thanksgiving). The service call went very well. The service technician arrived on time. All of my areas of concerns were addressed and corrected to my satisfaction. No safety risks remained. I am finally satisfied. It took five days to finally get the job done correctly. It involved being spoken to by rude and discourteous employees and experiencing many unanswered calls. I paid for the job in advance. A lesson that I learned. Do not pay for a job in full until it done completely to your satisfaction. The other lesson I learned is to check Angie's List first. There were other recent reviews that mirrored my recent experience.

The company installed four windows. Three in the dining room and one large picture window. I had about 4 companies give estimates but this company had the best price and the brand of windows they used were highly rated. On day of install, 2 guys showed up on time and it took about 4 hours to complete the job. The windows looked great and the installers cleaned up very well. Would use again.

They were fine but I felt they discriminate on the neighborhood you live in. They just put my doors on and they didn't finish them like they did with someone I know who used them. They didn't make sure the molding outside was finished. They did good work. The pricing was fine.

My home was broken into a few days before I was leaving town for business. The front doors could not be secured and are not of a standard size. Kenny did an excellent job of explaining options and worked with me to find a temporary solution that would allow me to leave and feel the house was secure. Custom front doors will be built and installed later. A security door was installed in the back and window bars were installed on the windows --- all of this work was done well and the installers were courteous, pleasant and timely. I will be using Protector Window & Door for the additional work that needs to be done.
NOTE: The N/A rating for price is because I do not have anything to compare to. The N/A rating for quality is because the materials used are mostly temporary --- they are certainly doing the job they are designed for.
I have used them before an all together have spent over $3000.00 cash with them, but this time I was not pleased at the way in replacing the front door jamb and casing , the plaster on the side of the door was knock out, an I was left with lath showing in quite a large area. When I contacted them they said they couldn't be responsible for that! I told if I lived in a richer area I bet they would have? After about 2 wks. I received a pitiful insulting check for $25.00, of which I promptly took to their office with and quot;insulting and quot; wrote on it. I being a community activist, try to use Detroit based businesses. this time it didn't work!
The sales guy came out the same day for the quote and it was a very good price. I paid 1/3 as a down payment, 1/3 after completion, and the remaining balance 30 days later. The security bars were installed first and the installation went fine with the exception of my front window having a crack after they left. I contacted the office and spoke with several people and they finally agreed to send a glass repair person out the following morning after threatening to deduct my window repair amount from the balance I owed them. The window was repaired at no cost the next day. The second part of the sale was the installation of the garage doors which went great however an outside keypad was not installed on the door nor was a manual override in the event of loss of electricity. I contacted the company and they later sent out an employee to install the keypad stating that it wasn't in the original order but as a courtesy they would install it. I stated that spending $1900 dollars on two garage doors should warrant a keypad. Lastly the rolling security doors were installed and I was very pleased with the install. I had to hire an electrician to complete the electric security door and for 4 weeks it worked great. The door was supposed to have a 5 year warranty on parts and 1 year on labor. One evening the door locked midway and despite the motor running the door would not move. I called the emergency number and got a voicemail. The next morning I called again and got voicemail again and left another message. I then called the store and reached Mike who was in charge of installations. I explained my situation to him and explained the urgency of them to come out to fix it however I was told they may be able to fix it sometime next week and that due to the inclement weather and lack of employees that was the best he could do. I went back and forth with Mike explaining that spending 1500.00 for an inoperable door was not acceptable and that it was not my fault that his company does not have enough employees to cover the demand. He started getting frustrated and told me that arguing on the phone was not going to change anything and that he would be in touch if they can get someone out sooner. I then asked to speak with a manager or have the issue escalated to a higher up but he stated that I was talking to the highest person in charge because he was the owner and he abruptly hung up the phone. Two weeks went by and the company never contacted me until I submitted started a credit card dispute with Chase who then reversed the charge. Oddly enough that's when the company started hounding me about the money owed and being concerned about my situation. During that time I also discovered also that Mike was not the owner of the company. I had to have the door repaired by another company at a price of $700 dollars since new parts were needed and the installed had to be completely redone due to an initial poor installation. This company cuts corners when they need to and do not stand behind their warranty. Thankfully I paid with a credit card for the final payment or I would still be stuck with an inoperable door, Based on this experience I would never do business with this company again and recommend others to avoid them as well.
Response from Protector Window & Door
"In reference to this complaint, I want to respond fully. Firstly, the member's window couldn't have been cracked in the installation. We do not install window guards anywhere close to that area that was cracked. When she threatened to deduct the amount of the window from us, we have no choice but to oblige. Unfortunately, when this happens, customers can literally go to any vendor, even people they know. For something that costs us a smaller amount of money, a vendor of their choosing could charge hundreds more. So, we had to repair the glass which was not our responsibility to begin with. In reference to the garage door, we did install a keypad for her as a courtesy. She claims that after spending that amount of money she should be "warranted" with a keypad. But with buying anything, each item that is not included doesn't come with it no matter how much money is spend. For example, if you buy a new car and don't pay for a sunroof and you want one, it doesn't matter if you spent $20,000 or $200,000 for the car...the dealership is going to tell you that it is additional money. In any case, we did it as a courtesy to maintain a positive image with the customer. Finally, in reference to the shutter, she is correct in the fact that we could not send our installer out there at the time that was requested. Mike did pull her paperwork and we told her that she would be first priority as soon as our installer returned. We can't just send any installer to fix a shutter since only certain technicians are trained on that product. Michael didn't say he was the owner... he said he was the service manager. He is the highest in service and unfortunately, there is nothing myself, Michael or anyone else could have done for this customer since she wanted something we simply could not provide at the time. We had every intention of servicing the shutter, but she proceeded with a different company and reversed charges on her credit card. We regret we weren't able to service her at a time frame she was requesting, but after fixing her window which we did not crack, giving her a free keypad for her garage door, and offering her payment terms nobody else in the city would accept, we feel that the customer is being very unreasonable. She did not contact us, send us a bill for service, or even inform us of what she was doing. She simply reversed the credit card charges without any contact to us and when we tried to contact her after to resolve the matter, she never answered or called back. Contact from Angie's List was the first we've heard of the matter since the initial phone call. Also, she signed a contract stating she understands that there is a lien on all products and could be presented on the property as well until paid in full, so there is no theft of personal property for product removal if that is the route chosen. We can present her signature if so needed."
