It went very well. He gave a great impression of professionalism and honesty.  He also gave other quotes on work needed.  Quotes seemed high, but the work done was excellent.

Ma Purcell Service Co offered competitive pricing. They were very courteous in their service. However, they took a longer time to finish the job than they originally said they would. They took a week to finish the job. I would use them again in the future.

We've used them before for plumbing and air conditioning. It went really well. There was a spot they couldn't get out, but it was not their fault. They did a good job and we would definitely recommend them.

Last week, we noticed our heater was not working very well. I called Purcell's, and someone came out the next day (Wednesday) to look at it. They determined the limiting switch was broken, and he fixed it on Thursday. Our house felt warmer, but it wasn't getting to the thermostat reading. I called on Friday, and the technician came out later that evening to change the settings. The temperature dropped over the weekend, and our heater struggled to reach 64. When it read 57 on Monday morning, I called in again. Matt, the owner, said that he was going to come out to take a look at it instead of a technician because he wanted to see what was going on. He arrived before he said he would, and he found the problem to be the furnace was dirty and needed to be cleaned. He cleaned out the furnace for us, and the house is now heating properly. Within 30 minutes, our thermostat was reading 62 (before it was 58), and it is still climbing. I can definitely feel the difference as there is a lot more air pressure coming out of all the vents. Matt did not charge for the technician coming out the second time or this morning when he cleaned out the vents. He said that we had already paid enough. I really appreciated that both the technician and Matt answered our questions and did not pressure us into things that we did not need. Thank you so much for making our house warm again in such cold weather!

Excellent. Matt has come to our house many times for different projects over the years. From large projects with the sewer line to small projects like toilet repair, Purcell's have always done a great job.

Matt Purcell was very knowledgeable, and his skills were needed given our delightfully quirky old house. He prepared a lower-cost option without zones and a higher-cost option with zones, and explained why zones would be useful in our particular situation. Initially we went without zones but we quickly realized that he was right! They came back and installed the zones right away, and we have been delighted with our new AC ever since. The lower electric bills are a nice plus.

Punctual and professional. Carpets looked awesome for several weeks. The stairs have never looked better. We paid extra for the stain guard. Now that is has been about 5-6 weeks, several stains are beginning to reappear. They were really dark on light carpet -likely pet stains so we were surprised that they even came out. Bummer that they are coming back though.

It was OK. They used a circular brush and only cleaned the top of the carpet. I prefer the steam cleaning.

The technician arrived on time and promptly began diagnosing the air conditioning system. When freon levels were checked, it showed that the levels were showing an over charge of the system. When some of the freon was bled off, the numbers went all over the place. The tech cleaned the air conditioner using our own hose, which was not put back in its proper place after he was through with it. We were then advised that we would have to "wait and see" if their repairs would have any effect on the ability of the air conditioner to keep the inside temperature below 79. The tech left and advised they would be back later in the day, or the next day. We paid the bill for the service call and the cleaning of the air conditioner, even though our hose was used. That was $152. After several hours, it became evident that the repairs were having no effect. We waited until 5pm for a phone call regarding a follow-up. At that point we called Purcell, and were told that a tech would be out to follow up. When he arrived, he looked at the system again and couldn't uncover any new issues. We then asked for a quote for a new air conditioner/furnace. At this point, the techs savvy car salesman like skills were quite evident. In addition, they don't participate in the current Ameren Act-on-energy rebates, which would add up to $800. To make up for this, the tech offered a $100 off his total price for the estimates, which ranged from $3400 to $17000. Over the next few days, we had 4 different companies come out to give us estimates on new air conditioners. One company wanted to inspect the current air conditioner we had, to ensure that nothing could be done to the current unit. Upon inspection, it was found that the compressor of the air conditioner was not functioning, which would not allow any tech to get accurate freon readings. This explains why Purcell was receiving errant readings. My question to Purcell is this: What exactly did we pay 152 for? The tech should have recognized that a part as big as a compressor was not running, but he missed it. So long story short, we paid $152 to Purcell for them to mis-diagnose an air conditioner and for them to use our hoses to spray water at the air conditioner unit, and then not put the equipment away. We chose this company due to their good ratings on angies list, but I feel this review should serve as a red flag to any of you who are considering Purcell.
Response from Purcell Service
"Our firm had a tech do the first diagnostic. Later the customer called as Matthew the owner returned to check the system the compresser was working althought the compressor presures were abnorminal the system amp drawl was check to make sure the compresser was operating which was the case. Matthew told the homeowner that it wasn't likely that the system would make it over the weekend. That would answer the question why some else found the compresser not working. Also we were one of several companies after others. As to the repair cost are 1st tech spent sometime working with the system to help get some of the load of the compresser so the customer could some cooling. So they would have sometime to make a decision without pressure (like a salesman) that is where Matthew the owner came in he was called to give an estimate the owner expressed that the furnace was in the center of the home originally. So Matthew crawled done to the crawl space and found that was the case. Homeowner also expressed that there wasn't good air flow in the far east bedroom Matthew explain that since the furnace was moved to the garage that length to deliver airflow to the other in of the home the duct is sized incorrectly and repairs would need to made to correct the airflow problems. A estimate was given from the low in end which wouldn't meet their airflow concerns but would provide cooling. The customer seemed to be sincere in wanting the airflow corrected and didn't what the cheap way out. We believe the customer wasn't honest with us that is why i don't understand why they our upset. Matthew is more upset at reading their report he wish he would have done a better job with the pressure (like a car salesman). We also recommend we would refund the repair if they replaced the ac unit or replace the furnace with us. Also the Ameren deal we have made application they have been slow to adding other company such as ours and also we our really not interested in there program we feel as a company the owner should get the rebate cash but that isn't the case the contracting firm gets the money and it isn't $800 anyway. We feel Ameren should give the rebate cash to the owner not a discount off the job because the contracting could make the price whichever. We heard nothing but praises with our work and honesty when Matthew was there the homeowner explain that is why the choose our company; was are honesty and rating at Angies List. We as company understand that we can never make everyone happen but we try are best to be professional and if a customer as a complaint like this one it has been awhile since Matthew as had a complaint. Matthew feels he may need to check himself or should he? as a company and personally Matthew does alot of charity work for those in need, as employees we believe Matthew has done nothing wrong in this situation but to provide options. Matthew is sorry the results wasn't different but every homeowner has options, it soons like they found there option."

I have two large dogs who are pretty tough on the carpet, especially when it rains alot. C U Clean has been able to remove some big stains created by the dogs getting severely sick while I was at work. I used them this past time for just a general cleaning before the holidays. I appreciate how clean my carpets look and smell when they are finished, not too mention how fast the carpet dries once they are done.

Mr. Purcell was very helpful, flexible and informative. He provided a thorough inspection, analysis and recommendations for remedying. I would have preferred he do the follow-up work, but this was a rental unit and we were not able to use him. However, his assistance was very helpful in getting our issues addressed.
