One week after they supposedly cleaned our dryer vent, our two year old dryer caught fire. When Sears brought out our new dryer, they remarked that we really needed the venting system cleaned as it "looks thick with lint in the venting." We ended up calling another company and they showed us in the attic how none of it had been cleaned. The fan that pulls the lint up and out was so thick with lint, the blades would not turn. I complained to Pure Air but he was rude and dismissive. We ended up paying for another company to clean our vents.

mixed reviews. I didn't read the fine print so the purchase only covered 8 vents. Well I had 18 vents. So that was an extra $200. They told me about it and I originally was not going to have them all done but they said if the other vents were blocked then doing the 8 would be ineffective.

I went back and looked at the fine print. It should include that 8 vents is about the size of a small apartment. I have a 3 BR 1 floor house. I would not have purchased had I realized at the time how much it would end up being.

But they were prompt, courteous, explained everything well. If I wanted to spend that type of money i would hire them again.

i would give them an A but the angies list posting that the company drafted an F.

Very impressed with service. They were professional, clean, and made sure all debris was put into container in truck. They responded immediately to my call and completely understanding and friendly when I had to reschedule. They also worked quickly and efficiently.

First, the cleaners were late for the appointment. This was due to a flat tire on their truck... stuff happens. I did get a call prior to the appointment time letting me know that they would be late and offering me the option to reschedule.
The crew of 2 were very nice; however, they were plagued by poor equipment, and didn't seem exceptionally professional. First, the diesel engine running the vacuum in the truck smoked like crazy. I received a few complaints from the neighbors downwind about the smell. The wind also blew the exhaust into my garage and the open door to my house. My wife took the baby and left until they were done. I took several pictures of the diesel exhaust cloud from the truck on my phone. Second, the hoses they used to pull negative pressure on the central trunk were worn through in spots. This allowed air to leak into the hose from the environment, reducing the negative pressure on the system and the effectiveness of the cleaning. The crew dragged and scooted the hoses along the concrete drive. I assume this is where the abrasions came from, and that the crew routinely damaged their equipment in this manner. I spent almost the entire time they were cleaning patching holes with duct tape. The crew did not clean up the dust and debris that fell on the floor, toilet, and sink in the bathrooms from the vents. There was no negative pressure on these vents; they merely sprayed compressed air into the vents to dislodge the dust. Finally, my wife and I were sneezy and congested for about 2 weeks after the crew left, moreso than usual. I chalked it up to some dust being loosened up, but not evacuated. They did not use a brush in the ducts (not sure if they can on flexible ducting used extensively in modern systems), but they did in the dryer duct. The dryer worked more effectively following their visit.
I hate to write a poor review, but 6 months later I discovered yet more problems. Our HVAC system was not keeping the house warm in the deep cold snap, even with the emergency heat turned on. The HVAC technician found that the hole made in the trunk for the vacuum hose was sealed with duct tape (which, ironically, is not rated for sealing ductwork... foil tape is the standard), the tape had come loose, and was leaking hot air into the attic. I did not take a picture of this, as it is difficult to access in the attic, and the HVAC tech fixed it while he was up there. Incidentally, the roof now frosts over where before it was clear on cold days, leading me to believe the HVAC tech's claims. There were also 2 screws missing from the air handler access panel; though I don't have any proof that Pure Air lost the screws, the HVAC technician pointed this out BEFORE working on the air handler, and missing screws were not noted on the inspection report before purchasing the house. The dryer is taking a long time to dry clothes again after only 6 months, and not drying them completely. Disassembly of the vent hose revealed lint caked to the sides after only 6 months, leading me to question how thorough the dryer cleaning was. (As an aside, the same dryer functioned well for 4 years after purchase of the house, and the vent was somewhat linty when first hooking up the dryer after moving in.) Finally, after all the other problems, I purchased a remote inspection camera to inspect the ducts myself, which is the bulk of the work I paid for. On the ducts I inspected, there was a fine layer of dust starting 3-24" into the duct beyond the register. Because the ends near the registers and the blower motor in the air handler are clean, and because we use expensive 3M 1500 pleated filters to keep them clean, my only conclusion is that the duct cleaning was substandard and for visuals only. I also have pictures of the inspection camera screen while viewing the ducts, since that camera does not store images, and pictures of the dryer duct.
I give these people a D because they went through the motions, were polite and respectful of my house, and seemingly unclogged the dryer vent. However, they did nothing to improve the health of my house, left a mess behind, and didn't properly fix the duct trunk. I would not hire them again, nor would I recommend them. I would go so far as to recommend NOT to use them. This was my first experience having my ducts cleaned by anyone. I hate to write poor reviews, which is why it has taken me 6 months to put this up. After what I've learned recently, though, I can't leave this unsaid. Buyer beware.
Response from Pure Air
"We are sorry you had a bad experience with us. This the first of this kind in over 24 years The smoke was due to a turbo going out. We wanted to finish the job before we took the truck to be repaired which was the next day. We always leave work areas clean. Could have just been an over site. Exhaust vents- there is no duct to the vent therefore no vacuum is required. We cleaned it at no charge. FYI, we don't use brushes in flex ducts as it can damage them. All ducts should be sealed with foil tape. We did not notice our extra tape missing till we were on the job. We do apologize for that. Probably most units have a screw or two missing. It doesn't not affect the function of the unit at all. We have no control over what happens after 6 or7 months. Dust comes form mother nature and we have no control of its accumulation over a period of time. All we ask of anyone is to read the other reviews. We haven't been in business for over 24 years by doing bad work. There is a reason for everything. Thank you"

I called Pure Air to see about having my dryer vent unclogged. The owner explained their a/c service; and, since my house is over 10 years old and I have an indoor pet, cleaning the duct work seemed logical. I appreciated the fact that there was no pressure put on me to get the additional service, just a clear explanation. The Pure Air technicians were professional, courteous, and apparently knowledgeable. They explained each step of the service; and, since the builder of my house installed the dryer vent incorrectly, they suggested improvements for a later date. My home smells and feels cleaner since the works was done; and I can dry a load of clothes in 1/3 the time--saving on my electric bill and wear and tear on the dryer. I will definitely use this company again.
They were there right on time and very courteous. They took the time to go over everything they were going to do and explained different processes as they did them. They went over and above what I expected and I'm glad I decided to have the work done.
It's so nice to find a company that does what they say they'll do.
They showed up on schedule. The work was quick and efficient, and the technicians professional yet friendly. The work took about 2 hours from start to finish for 8 vents plus the dryer vent. I really liked their attitudes and willingness to explain what they were doing and why. I would use them again in a minute.
