The shower leaked and they were not able to fix it. I called but they did not respond. It was one of the worst experiences that we had. We called the project manager specifically they came to the house and kind of led the whole thing. I spoke to him the first time and he said I will be out soon and I will give you a call back and then nothing. So, I called him repeatedly after that and he never answered my phone after he knew there was a problem. It didn't leak for about 3 months then it started to leak profusely. I couldn't get him to come out and then I tried to seal it up with some masonry sealer that worked for a little while. Now it's leaking again. I think it was not installed properly. They put it in but it ended up having problems. The bathroom looks very good but I can't use it.

We hired Queen City to install a tile shower. We also had them replace the sink in our bathroom. There were a few issues. The first few arose when the plumber had improperly installed the piping. He had to go back and forth to Home Depot several times to correct his errors. I'm fairly certain that we ended up paying for the replacement piping even though the issue was not a result of anything we did. Honestly, we could live with that. My main issue is the quality of the installation. Apparently the tiler was taking to long to finish our shower (he was here for about 2 days). We thought he was doing an amazing job...until the foreman on the project had him "hurry up" so that he could move on to the next job. With this, he never had time to properly grout the shower or seal the drain.
The grout started to crack within 5-6 months of the remodel (we ended up hiring another plumber to reseal the drain). When I called the owner, Matt, he never returned my calls (I always got an answering machine). I got in touch with his father-in-law (Luke), who was the foreman on the job at the time (and is no longer working with Queen City) he gave me Matt's cell phone number. I actually got Matt on the phone that way. He said to send him pictures of the issues, and he would send someone out to fix it. Of course, I never heard back. I then had my husband call a few times and leave messages as well. That was about 6 months ago. You guessed it, no response. Needless to say, we are very dissatisfied with this contractor.

I contacted the provider in advance to request the garage doors, steps, microwave, and installation of some security lighting in areas where I made clear I did not currently have any fixtures. I was told all of these would be doable by two people in one day.

Everything was fine with the garage doors, the steps, and the microwave. However, when I asked about the lighting, the two men indicated that the lighting would have to be done by a registered electrician, as wiring would have to be run to the locations, and neither of them was an electrician. When I said I had made it clear that the lights needed wiring run when I first asked if all my requests could be accomplished, they were unaware that I had been told it could be done. Bottom line was that I could not get any security lighting installed.

When I tried to think of something else that they could do, since the electrical work could not be done, I asked them to install a peephole in the door. Although it looks very professionally installed, they failed to ask how high I wanted it in the door. As a result, I can only see out of the peephole if I stand on tiptoes and twist my neck to be able to see as high as possible.

Tradewinds was known as Queen City Remodelling when we contacted them to do work for us in Dec. 2012.We were impressed with the owner, Matt, his ideas and suggestions and his price, and told him we would like to start on April 1st. He agreed and in March sent his project manager out to discuss things. The problem was that Luke had no idea what they were going to do for us and left quite embarrassed and upset. They finally showed up May 29. Their workmanship was very good and the crew was very nice to have around. Good thing, because due to Matt's scheduling ineptness, the one month project in spite of our pleading, threatening and cajoling, lasted over 3 1/2 months. Overall we are very pleased with the results but due to Matt's lack of expertise in estimating the length of time required to do this job, and his lack of response to our many requests workers to finish the jobs, we will not be usin them again.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased for my mother. It was a horrible experience for both of us. The guy who did the original review of the job was great. He was a real nice guy and seemed knowledgeable. He gave us some ideas and came out on a weekend to evaluate the job. He said that they were kind of busy and would schedule out for the first week in September. That was acceptable because we were not in a rush. We hadn't heard anything as of the last week of August so we called because we knew that we that some items, such as a tub, shower and vanity had to be purchased and we didn't know if we had to buy them or not. He said that he was too busy to begin as anticipated and would have to push it out. We pushed it out a week, then another week, then another week. About 1 1/2 months went by and we were trying to pin them down with a date before Thanksgiving. We ended up having to contact the owner of the company who said they would start the next week. They started that next week and started gutting everything and then they left it hanging for about 2-3 weeks. There was no response to email or phone. Finally we got hold of the owner again and was able to get them to come in and finish the job. It wasn't the best job in the world with rough walls, paint splatters, a ceiling exhaust fan only exhausted into the attic (not externally), and dirty.

The job was decent overall, the price was great, but hey still owe us money. We paid an additional $400 because we had some additional work that needed to be done to bring the electrical up to code...that's fine. The Materials allowance was $1200 and my mother purchased everything on her own with the exception of the toilet which was a $150 cutoff. So by our math, she is due $1,050. She did have some additional work performed, for which she put an additional $400 deposit for the electrician, and owes the remainder: $238. So by this math, $1,050 - 238 = $812. Providing payment in the amount of $800 would be sufficient to put this behind us.
I sent a letter expressing my dissatisfaction with the renovation of our Bathroom. "Poor communication and follow up, along with some workers unable to do the job made for a difficult and often times uncomfortable relationship. However, I do want to acknowledge Dave Jewell's craftsmanship in tiling, he was a pleasure to know...I expected a much higher level of service from your company, and I'm disappointed. Because of this I am considering my account paid in full and will look elsewhere for other contracting services."

I have tried several times to get this company back out here to resolve some issues we have had with this remodel. In the shower the grout is coming off of the footrest which I would like redone. We also had a radian heating system put in and it still doesn't work. After several times of contacting the owner, he has basically ignored our requests and I'm not sure what to do to get this fixed. I would really like them to come and finish the job to my satisfaction.

QCR qouted the job and was the 3rd lowest bidder out of 6. During the bid process the owner personally provided the qoute and was very professional and was able to discuss schedule and technical details very well. Once the contract was signed the work began and after the first week, it was down hill from there. The owner would stop in perhaps once a day, but sometimes not every day. Materials orders were botched and a job that was to take 3 weeks took 6 months. Our house was torn apart for this time and of course that's not a good way to live. For the owner, always seemed to be someone elses fault (the tile supplier, the trucking company, an employee). AThe owner rarely remembered to handle his business but he never seemed to forget where the golf course was. It was an adversarial relationship at best and he lacked ownership of job quality. Either the company couldn't provide quality or didn't care, either way the result was the same. During the bid he promised that he would be working on the job, but in reality he rarely ever showed up to superivse his employees. After months of waiting, the workmanship was beyond sub-par, it was truly terrible - at the end we just gave in and couldn't take any more and were just looking to finish the ordeal. I probably could have used the 5 months to learn how to do this work and one month to do it and would have done a much better job. It was amateur hour. Some of the help that showed up seemed to be temps, and generally late or without adequate supplies or skills. Showing up at 9 and leaving at 3 doesn't make for a productive work day. We became prisoners as we had ot babysit every day. The owner regularly rushed and badgered his people, usually by cell phone because he wasn't there in person. We have used paint contractors whom we trust and will leave with keys to work unsupervised. Not QCR, we could not trust them in any way - it just never became that kind of relationship. If you work with them, expect to need to be there full time and expect that they will not maintain a predictable schedule. It took them literally three tries to get anything to work. Literally - they had to install and then rip up anything they did three times - this inlcudes tile, hardwood, etc. Nothing they did worked the first time. The owner tried to file insurance claims to cover losses resultng from poor workmanship. Avoid QCR at all costs. We now have to live with a tile floor that is not planar or well installed and a backsplash that is an eyesore. Damage to cabinets, walls and doors walls that were perfect before this ordeal remains. Everyday is a reminder of the QCR experience.
Dave and assistant started demo at end of August.(worked two days). Friendly and considerate guys, but left a lot of rubble and didn't finish all walls. Bathroom is still in demo mode, not usable at all. Plumber came in September, did good job as far as I can tell, but another plumber will have to install and finish plumbing after tiling is done. Provider was unable to have electrical work done. Got my own electrician. This past week provider just finished up demo (finished another wall and cleaned up rubble left by first demo person and covered bathroom floor as rubble was dropping into kitchen below bath.)

He installed insulation and drywall as of Oct.1st and 2nd. ( 2 more days of work) ( not sure of quality as he doesn't usually do drywall work) They are not sure when they can return to do anything else. Have guests coming soon and no bath. Recent Angie's reviews are negative about quality of tiling and finish painting work..don't trust it will turn out well. Feel like they are taking advantage of my patience and just squeezing this job in when it is convenient for them. Not willing to take any more time or any more chances on their workmanship. heard Demo guy may be the buy who does the tiling, scarey thought! Luc their representative has been polite and pretty responsive, but not it is too late.

The overall quality of work s sub standard. First the good things - electrical and plumbing was done well. We were quite satisfied by the plumbing and electrical contractors that came in in the early stages of the project. Rest of the job was not up to the expectations. Especially the tiling and painting. The person putting the tiles wasted a lot of tiles blaming the hardness and the quality of tiles. These tiles were one of the most expensive we have seen. The tiles are not installed properly. they are not levelled at the seams. what a waste of such expensive tiles. The painting was also very sloppy and we had to call them a few times to get the job done right. In the end we gave up and accepted the poor quality. Worst of all, we never got refunded for the Angeles list voucher. The Angie's List voucher was the reason we had hired this company. We have called Matt (most likely the owner or one of the project managers) numerous times but he never responds back. Very unprofessional and dishonest attitude. I would never hire them and would not recommend anyone to hire them based on our experience.
This work was performed from an Angie's List coupon. The coupon was for six hours of wood rot restoration. The rotted wood around my window was replaced with good quality material, and a sealer was used. I was impressed with the completed project.
It was a bit hard to schedule the appointment, but other than that, the project went well.
I purchased a big deal from Angie's List and their services turned out good. Once we actually got the guy to come out it was good, we got done what we needed to get done, but actually communicating with him was very difficult. We were waiting long time for responses. We were told the day he would come out and he did not arrive and we did not get a call to say he was not coming. So, actually kind of fixing the date was difficult. The person we were actually talking to was not the person that actually came out and did the job, but that was okay. We actually had some additional work that we liked them to do and they were going to call us back and we never got a call, so we did not follow-up with them but the work that was done was good. The guy that actually came out and did the work was very good and he explained what he had done and as I said originally they were going to just do the frame but they ended up doing the whole door and we did not have any problems with that. They did not try and charge us extra or anything, so that was very good, but on the bad side just trying to pin him down and get a date and actually get them to come out was quite difficult.

There were typical delays and communication issues that would be expected of any contractor but otherwise everything was professional.
The problem with buying this as a deal was that anything that wasn't covered had to be negotiated and knowing if the added costs were reasonable was difficult. It also felt as though the company was doing a lot of these jobs because of the delays in getting personnel to do the work in the proper sequence. The job ended up taking twice the amount of time.
I wouldn't buy a deal for contractor services again.
They started July 1. The first few days went well. They were neat and efficient with the demo and installing the insulation, sheet rock and floor tile. There was a delay then because I failed to order the sink and toilet on time. However, I had selected paint - a Martha Stewart paint because those were the colors I liked. The paint samples had swirls on them unlike all the other paint samples at Home Depot. I just thought it was Martha's way of showing you had the option of making a faux/swirled pattern. When the second painting came out with brush and roller strokes showing, the project manager and I thought there must be something in the paint accentuating shadows and swirls and that we needed other paint. A day or 2 later the project manager and a woman (who never told me her position in the company) came to look at the paint job. The woman said I would have to pay $300 more for repainting because I had picked the paint in the first place. We discussed this for a few minutes - my position being that I, as an inexperience customer, chose paint colors but a profession painter should have known the properties of the paint he's using, especially when he realized I didn't want faux or swirls. Once he painted 2 or 3 sides either above or below the chair rail he should have seen the problem and stopped. The paint dries fast. He had time to see, before he finished the whole room, that there was a problem. Besides, I pointed out that my bathroom is only a powder room, not a $10,000.00 job anyway. She relented. After a week not hearing from them I called the project manager and a return date was set to repaint with new paint. Meanwhile, the sink, tiolet and cabinets had arrived.
The third paint job is sloppy at best. The corners where the chair rail meets the door and window trim have debris from sanding so the corners are thick instead of sharp and clean (new sheetrock and chair rail so no previous paint buildup), the lines between paint colors are wavey with brown going over into beige and beige going into brown, there are drips ( not from the underlying paint) in several areas, lines between brush and roller are very evident, a piece of the chair rail that broke when it was nailed in was never filled, sanded or treated at all (I think a brand new piece of chair rail should have been installed right when the break was made), there are areas where the primer shows through. And more. I showed the project manager and he seemed to agree with me. I told him I did not want that painter to return. There is nothing personal about that - he's had 3 chances to do it professionally and has failed. I don't trust his ability and judgment. I haven't heard from Queen City Remodeling since that day, approximately August 20.
I emailed QCR on August 27, giving my view of the situation, offering to have another painter correct the mistakes and finish the rest of the painting at their expence. I pointed out to them that they have saved money on this Big Deal because there is no bathtub removal and replacement, no medicine cabinet and exhaust fan involved in this project which are allowed for in their offer/contract. I called and left a message on Friday August 30, asking to communicate with me, give me their position. I haven't heard from them.
This project started July 1. The sink and toilet arrived during the 3rd week of July, the cabinets about a week later. It is now September 3. Their failure to communicate with a customer is the most unprofessional behavior I have observed or heard of so I am forced to give this very poor review.
I didn't give them an overall D because the project manager and plumber are good, professional and helpful.
I met with Matt Bouchard, the Owner, and Luc Lambert, the Project Manager before the project was begun. They set July 8 to start and said it will take about three weeks to complete both bathrooms. They were very open to my questions. I shopped for most of the items on the allowance list such as sinks, vanities, shower, mirrors, and so forth. It's was much bigger project for me than I ever imagined. But, once I purchased everything I needed to or selected it, as in the case of the tile, the work was in the hands of the QCR guys.
It is ow August 19. The first bathroom is completed and it is beautiful! It took a little longer than first estimated, but that was no issue for me as we had all summer open. They will start the guest bathroom shortly.
I can't say enough about the men who did the work. Luc, the project manager, was a gem. He tried anyway he could to be accommodating to our needs. The men were truly professional and you could tell they took pride in their work. They cut no corners; everything they did was high quality work. It was a pleasure to interact with all of them. My wife and I felt safe and comfortable with leaving them to do their work if we had to go out. They cleaned up after their day's work was done. I always received a call from Luc in the morning telling me what plans he had for the day. Some days they weren't here, which was okay.
I picked a winner with Queen City Remodeling and I would recommend them without reservation to anyone.
John
I was extremely disappointed with the work. It was sloppy and unprofessional. My wife has severe allergies, so I asked them to seal off the door due to the dust. I could not see all of the work until they left. I sent the owner pictures of the problems. He came and looked at the work and said that he was surprised and appalled and he would rectify the situation. There were several e-mail communications with the provider for over two months. They have promised certain dates to do the repairs, and they never came. The phone calls were never returned, and most recently the email replies have stopped and I have not heard from them.

The project manager came out on a Saturday to determine the scope of the job and to explain our allowances under the advertised Angie's list deal. We appreciated him coming out during the weekend because my wife and I work, otherwise we would have had to take time off. During that meeting we were told that we would have a selection of five different tiles to choose from, as well a couple of choices of small tile sets for the floor. Samples of the various tiles would be provided when they started demolition. The demolition went pretty well. They preserved the existing trim around the shower door, the frameless door, and tried to save the existing tile on the exterior wall under the shower door threshold. It took several days to put in the cement backer board, waterproof it, and to re-install a new drain. Longer than we expected but it was a good effort. During that time they only provided us with 2 different tile samples from which to select. We asked about it and were told that we could go to Home Depot to pick out different tile if we desired, but were given a price point or advised whether we would have to pay for the tile or not if we picked it up at Home Depot. Eventually, they brought 2 more choices for us to consider. Unfortunately, the small tile we selected for the floor was no longer available so we had to go with the only other choice offered.
During the tiling process the first mason finished about a quarter of the shower stall. The next day, a different mason arrived, and subsequently spent 3 hours re-accomplishing much of the work of the first mason. Thankfully, when the first mason returned he did not scrap the work of the second mason.
The worst part of the job came during the finish when they used the same tile on the exterior wall under the shower door threshold as was used in the shower, despite it not matching ANY of the tile on the walls of our bathroom. Also, despite saving all the trim around the shower door, they threw it away and used standard trim you could buy from any supplier, failed to paint it, and because it didn't match the shape of the previous trim the wall paper was now bare in some spots. I personally had to travel to a tile warehouse to find our bathroom's matching wall tile so they could use it instead of the shower tile. Even so, they still used a tan grout when the rest of the bathroom has white grout. Finally, when they replaced the shower door (a frameless, glass, high end door) it scraped the bottom threshold. We're lucky it didn't break the first few times we tried it. Ultimately, because of our complaints they fixed the grout color, moved the door slightly, but it was still an incredibly poor fit. On top of all that I think the workmanship was average at best. There were very large gaps between some of the tiles in the shower with associated large amounts of grout to cover them. The line-up of the tiles around the shower door is shoddy. It seems as though they did not use bull nose tile around the entrance to provide a smoother transition between sets of tile. All in all I would not use Ocean City Remodeling, nor would I recommend them to anyone.
It is a very large porch. Most of it was done well and it passed inspection. When he came to get the last check, I had some concerns about the floor by the stairs. He agreed to repair it, but the repair was really not done well. I called him a little later and he agreed that it still needed repair, but wanted to wait until it got warm. In June of 2012, I called several times before I finally got someone out. The son came out and said the floor was put in the wrong way. Since then (a year now), they have been saying “Give me 2 weeks, give me 10 days…”. The spaces in between the boards are big enough to catch a heel in. The flooring is composite decking, and it seems that they are not familiar with how to install and use it. As recent as 2 weeks ago, Matt text me and said he would be out the follow day. He did not come out and did not contact me at all. All I want is for them to come and fix this floor. If they do so, I will improve my report and my grades.

They came out on Friday and gave us good idea to avoid seams in the floor by adding a different color on the outside edge. They also had a guy who could remove and add a new gas line for the grill. Sunday night we received a detailed quote which clearly explained what they were doing and the payment terms. They started when they said they would however the job ran longer due to the rain. The days it didn't rain they guys should up on time and did a great job. The days when it was raining Matt would let us know they were not coming. When the took the siding off they found a rotting moldy wall and they were able to replace the wall and door same day. The gas line was add the same day they finished the deck. They did everything they said they were going to do and our new deck is solid and beautiful. We are extremely happy with the work QCR did. I wish I could post pictures.
