Actually, it was a terrible nightmare what they did to my roof. And I’m angry that they got such high reviews from others, not only on Angies List, but even from other computer reviews. AND...I laughed when I read in your little magazine that Roger McCauley, the owner, said we ‘would deal directly with him’ if we chose to use RAM. Ha ! Of all the fricking problems that developed when they worked on OUR roof, he never bothered to call us. So he’s trying to create an image of caring about his clients...which really are just empty words when it comes down to it. Plus...from the talk I heard among the workers, there’s a high turnover of employees...which says something not good about the company. THEY might have told me they’re weeding out ‘poor employees’ (when I called & complained to them)...but the fact that I had TWO major problems that were unacceptable, each from different workers, I tend to believe the company is just BS-ing their way onto jobs, and saying what they feel people want to hear. I had two of those employees with ‘poor attitudes’ working on my roof.... One of those two workers had a TERRIBLE attitude, and he just slapped the flashing onto my chimney, and side door over-hang, which was very obvious when walking past the house. The other guy had obviously not been properly trained in how to ‘pull old shingles up’...and dug HUGE holes in the plywood base all over my roof !!! Even I would know not to shove the shovel INTO the roof to dig up the old shingles...but rather try to pry them up, going in the same direction of the slope, etc. And shame on his coworkers for letting him DO IT ! There were 3-5 people on my roof at different times; didn’t SOMEone see this kid doing it wrong ?? I’m disgusted with them all...except the guy who had to come back to ‘fix the problems’ created by the other employees. Zach seemed to be the only one who took pride in what he was doing. And, he had to be pretty darn creative to make the disaster job of the flashing look good by the time he was done. And I didn’t know about the holes in the foundation of my roof until I went into the attic to fold up the tarps I’d placed over stuff stored up there. I expected there’d be ‘crumbs’ from the tar paper, or whatever, like the previous time we’d had the roof replaced. What I found was shocking !! The largest hole created was roughly 6” by 4”...and there were 6 other holes that Zach had to come back to patch up. I mean there was chunks of plywood, splinters, & nails sprinkled all over the attic. Zach was also the man who had to cover up the flashing that Archie had done a slip-shod job on. And Archies attitude ? As he’s pulling out of the drive way, he said “I hope you like the job…because I’m the one who will have to come back and fix it if you don’t like it”. Well...THAT made me look at everything closer...and let’s just say that my 8 year old granddaughter could have done a better job...because she’s neat and would have taken the time to figure out what to do ! ‘Neat’ is obviously a word not in his vocabulary, at least not when working on our roof. I haven’t taken the time to write out the ‘proper review’ yet, except for all the info above, for several reasons. First, my husband passed away in Feb...between the time when RAM contacted us that they would like to replace the roof because of hail damage, and, when they actually did the job. After losing Rich, I truly didn’t care about piddly things like reports & surveys...for 7 months or so. I knew I’d get to it eventually, but that definitely was NOT my priority. But since I’ve received two emails from Angie’s List in a very short time about RAM, I thought I’d take the time to respond...as you’ve read above. Plus, I don’t want RAM to receive such ‘perfect scores’ because from what they did here, those scores are bogus. Sadly, I truly feel RAM residential does not represent themselves accurately, thru Angies List, or otherwise. Our oldest son was told (by another contractor) that they’d get $500 off a job done at their place...IF our son “wrote a positive report for Angie’s List”. The work he had done was done decent...but as he said he’d be GLAD to twist the truth a bit to save $500. This was NOT a tactic used for me...but...I suspect they’re doing something along this line to get so many positive reviews & marks... I’ve only talked to 2 other neighbors who had work done by RAM. One was satisfied (after Zach came back to do “the fix up work”) & the other neighbor had a “RAM nightmare” like mine to deal with. Oh ! I’d give them an F-minus for their workmanship, and attitude, AND lack of training.
