Ranger Enterprises (Bill Fritchley) came on multiple days to prep the site for the patio/slab and to set the forms. Concrete was delivered on 2nd day. We quickly learned that only one of the 3 employees on the jobsite had any experience with handling concrete. We later learned that Ranger did not have enough concrete delivered to the jobsite.
These two issues resulted in a concrete slab that had an absurd finish. It was uneven. Some of the slab had a 'broomed' finish while others were completely smooth. The edges of the slab already chipping the day after it had dried. Running out of concrete created a 'hot seam' that made it obvious where the two batches of concrete came together. The expansion joints were saw cut unevenly (there were even two cuts where they realized they were not going straight and decided to simply start a new line next to the crooked line!). Finally, there were dips in the slab that were significant enough to roll one's ankle when playing basketball.
The most frustrating part of this experience was that Curtis (the supposed co-owner who we dealt with from the beginning) went missing when he saw how the slab turned out. He said he did not have authority to help make it right and that we'd have to deal with Fritchley. Fritchley said there was nothing wrong with the slab and that he would be 'proud to have it at his house'. He kept the deposit and walked off the job leaving us with an absurd looking slab and a torn up yard (they had already started prep for the 10x20 paver patio).
The slab was so embarrassing, I paid Jan Tate Concrete come rip the old slab out and install a new basketball court. Mr. Tate was fantastic and did a great job. His price was very fair -- I think he felt sorry for us after seeing the court that Ranger had installed!
We had to take Ranger to Small Claims court to get money returned to us. I have dozens and dozens of photos I would be willing to share with anyone considering using Ranger for any work. I don't want anyone else to have to go through a situation like this!

The workmen removed the leaves in October from the front and back yards. When they returned in December they also blew the leaves off of my roofs. The quality of the work was excellent. In the past they had blown some of my mulch out of the beds but this year they were very careful and left everything looking excellent.
We have used them many, many, many times. We've used them for probably 10 years. They are very professional and easy to deal with. The workers are fantastic. Their price is very fair and they take very good care of our yard.

A mixed experience: There are some very strong points with their performance. Mr. Fritchley is friendly and works very hard. His prices were very fair. They are amazingly prompt in addressing snow removal and usually do an outstanding job. They always worked very hard and fast when doing work in our yard. Perhaps sometime a little too fast, resulting in some damage. We tended to overlook the damage, because it was not malicious damage, but probably the result of working too fast, and we realize "time is money" and they have to make a living. Once our well cap, which sticks about 12" above ground, in accordance with code, and was clearly visible was hit and shattered by his leaf vacuum machine. Mr. Fritchley wanted to know if they could just knock it off at ground level, since we are now on city water. But, we use that well as a water supply for watering the lawn and had just installed a new pump, so he repaired the cap. When plowing our drive, he frequently got off the drive and plowed into the yard. We realized our drive is steep and curves so it isn't easy to see the edge when it is covered by snow. Because of this, we tried to mark along the edge of the drive with a shovel when it snowed and repaired the lawn ourselves without complaint when unintentional damage occurred. One time Mr. Fritchley called me and told me that a large pine tree of ours had fallen into our neighbor's yard and was causing a client of his distress, because we hadn't bothered to clean it up. I think he wanted me to pay him to clear the tree. I told him that we had many large trees in our backyard, but that I wasn't aware of any of them having fallen, and I would go check. We didn't have any trees down, and I did not recognize the name of the woman whose yard he said it had fallen into. It turned out to be someone else's tree and not even bordering our property. In the winter of '09 Mr. Fritchley was plowing our drive and accidentally knocked down a brick wall at the culvert at the base of our drive. We had just had two matching brick walls built on either side of the drive for $700 the previous summer, after carefully selecting a mason from Angies List to do the job. We wanted to hire the same mason again to rebuild the wall because we liked his workmanship and the materials he used, and wanted the walls to match. Mr. Fritchley wanted us to let him build the wall himself, and tried to pressure me when I told him we wanted to use the mason who had built it less than a year previously. I could understand that he didn't want his insurance company to know about it, but I didn't feel that my request was unreasonable, and I felt that his pressuring me was not up to the level of professionalism that he had demonstrated previously. When I didn't buckle to his insistence that we allowed him to do it, he turned the claim in to his insurance, and he informed me that he would not work for us any more.

They were absolutely professional and they gave me good customer service. The company itself was good. They seeded and graded the land. A tornado came through after that and it water down and it was all destroyed. However, they did a good job. They were an excellent company. The person that came was real professional and he loved his work.

The owner, Bill Fritchley, is the nicest man you could meet in the construction business. He gave me an estimate and stuck to the estimate even though the asphalt was much thicker than he thought and two extra dump trucks full of asphalt had to be hauled away. He has a great crew. We had to work around the weather of course and the job took longer than estimated due to all the rain, but they got it done as quick as they could and it is beautiful. Our driveway is about 50 feet long and the walkway is about 80 feet. They also did a couple of steps and had to replace the footings.

Overall, very pleased. The project was affected by a potential problem with a future sewer line and Bill recommended and contacted a plumber for us. The plumber came and did his work so that Bill could do his work...they worked well together. Bill & crew were professional, courteous and conscientious. Project did come in over the estimated budget, but he also did some extra work that he didn't charge for so it all came out even in the end. Highly recommend Bill & his company.
