The provider came at the agreed up on time and went to the basement to check the furnace. He asked that I turn it on so that he could check that it was functioning properly. The Big Deal implied that it was going to be a thorough inspection, but I think he spent maybe 5 minutes on it, total. I didn't really know what he was doing aside from looking at it and listening to make sure it came on.
Overall, I got the impression that a "27 point inspection" wasn't really all that necessary for my furnace, and i felt kind of dumb for spending the money, but it wasn't really his fault-I could have asked more questions.
I prefer providers who take the time to educate me on what exactly is going on when they're getting ready to do the work.
They told me that cleaning is not apart of the deal. I also do not believe that the did a very good job looking it over.

The fuel line was clogged up on the boiler. While he was working on the boiler he straitened out the temp on the water boiler. He is here a lot and they are always punctual and reasonable.

Went great overall. We got a few estimates and different boiler types from different companies. We settled on the Electric Service Man heating system with Beckett burner. I like R & D and wanted to give them the business. I don't remember if they were the cheapest but I have been very happy for years. We get it serviced once per year and they are always on time, professional and friendly.
For oil delivery, we are very happy.
Where do I start? This process of getting our boiler replaced was a nightmare. R&D initially had scheduled to come out to do an estimate the day before we were supposed to go on vacation. We got a call the night before around 7:00 that Ray needed to cancel due to a stomach issue. We were forced to delay our vacation so that he could come out and do our estimate. Ray told us he would be out at 8:00 the next day. At 8:30 he finally showed up and did the estimate. He told us it would take a day "maybe two" to complete the install.
October 5th, Ray and his crew came to our house to do the install. The boiler company came to drop off the boiler and Ray was no where to be found. A call to R&D told us that he was running late (once again) and would be there shortly. He finally did show up and the boiler was dropped off. His first initial statement was "I hope this will fit." Issue #1: Ray never measured to see if the new boiler would fit.
Upon removal of the old boiler, Ray informed me that the old boiler had been cemented around by another layer of cement and that he could not install the new boiler until cement was laid and cured over the area where the old boiler was. Issue #2: Ray never checked to see if the boiler was just level to the floor or was surrounded by cement.
Ray then proceeded to tell me that he was not sure if his men could install our new chimney liner because he did not know we had a slate roof and it was raining. Fortunately for us, one of his brave men went up on our roof and put the liner in. Issue #3: Ray assumed since our porch roof was shingles that the main roof was as well. A quick look from our backyard (where he parked to do the estimate) shows that our main roof is clearly slate. He was going to charge us $1000 to put up scaffolding due to the slate!
A day later he brought his grandson to put in the cement. That day was wasted since we needed to allow the cement to cure. This could have been done by Ray on day 1.
Upon the cement curing, Ray return to finish the install. He asked for my help on getting a pipe to fit over another pipe on the boiler. This included wrenching on one pipe to get it to fit. This wrenching caused a small leak in an existing pipe which Ray has whole heartedly denied he caused (which is on video by the way). Issue #4: I now have a small leak in a pipe going into the boiler that will need to be fixed by another heating professional.
Ray needed to return another day to get the wiring finished on the boiler. This was two weeks after the initial install (the boiler was functional throughout that time). It took me to call twice for them to return to finish this. Issue #5: The estimate of 2 days max to finish the project turned into a 5 day nightmare.
The finished product looks great. The workmanship is very nice. I just wish the experience was such a nightmare.
In all the boiler install which was supposed to take "One day, maybe two" took in total 5 days.
VERY unsatisfied with R&D.

R&D came to clean the oil burner. They arrived on time, their price was very fair and did a good job.
