Shockingly, Recreation Unlimited doesn't seem to own simple mistakes. Their employee hit a power line trying to install a basketball goal (very simple mistake), but Recreation Unlimited won't pay for the repairs or damaged landscaping from Duke's excavation to repair the power line. So, calling them effecitvely cost me time and money for their mistake. Quite surprised to see this position, as there are no other details left out...simple as that. They did refund the money but I'm left paying for landscaping damage / loss.

We were extremely pleased with Recreation Unlimited. On the day we first visited, we were assisted by William, who was extremely patient and informative in helping us to decide the right shed. Brad and Mike were great in keeping us informed of scheduling, and rescheduling-- due to the uncooperative weather! Josh was very friendly and efficient in taking down our old shed, and removing and then replacing the fence post and panels. The transport company was also very good at maneuvering the shed through the yard and into place. We love our new shed! I would definitely do business with Recreation Unlimited again and highly recommend!

They arrived a little sooner than was scheduled ( maybe 30 to 45 minutes). They worked all day long and into the darkness to finish the job. They sent enough personnel to get the job done right and as fast as possible.
The service was scheduled for the morning of 07/18/14. During the week prior to this, we prepared our yard by grinding stumps, leveling the ground where the playset was to be placed and purchased a truckload of dirt to 'resurface' the area.
On the morning of the 18th, we received a call at 8:46 am from the techwho was calling from the home where the playset was located. He said he needed to wait on another person to help with the set due to it being an older model. The tech's phone number is (765) 278-1028. He went on to say on that same call that the "buried boards" are pretty "rotten"however he is pretty sure most sets have warranties on the wood. At no time did he mention possibly having to pay for partial service (i.e. paying to take the set down only) even though to him, an EXPERT, he could instantly see the set was in poor enough shape to question its ability to be moved. It seems as though that would have been the moment to say something to the effect, "sir, would you like for us to still take this down for you? It may be too rotten to reassemble and if we take it down and cannot move it, you will still be charged $350". At which point I would have obviously said, "NO." No logical person would pay $350 to have a playset removed from someone else's yard (UNLESS that playset was going to be moved to their own yard...)
I waited until the afternoon and when the tech didn't call me back, I called him for an update. This was his 2nd chance to update me on the situation and give me the chance to decide what to do. However his update was simply 'we are waiting on a different guy to come out and look at it.'
Finally at 3:54pm, a different tech (phone number 317-339-5663) called to advise me they had gone ahead and disassembled the playset and it was indeed too rotten to reassemble. He said they were getting ready to deliver what they had disassembled to my house. So, a pile of rotten wood?! I told them if it was rotten, then there was no reason to deliver to my house (obviously).

Thank goodness I said this as I am sure I would have been charged for that as well, even though, again, I was advised of any other charge if the main function of the job was not complete, nor did I ever get asked or proactively give a go ahead to anyone to breakdown the set.
I asked the second tech to make a list of parts that possibly needed repair and he did so, leaving it in the mailbox of the original owner. There were over 30 pieces on his list. The techs then piled the set in the owners yard and left. I called Rec Unlimited on Monday 7/21 to make sure I was not charged the $800 and was shocked to learn they charged me $350 for the
breakdown. I did not authorize this charge and it was never discussed with me. I spoke with Service Manager David Gilles and he advised me that he had no authority to waive the fee, even though I was never informed I would be charged this amount for this service. I explained the information above, repeatedly fighting through Mr. Gilles interruptions and accusations, only to be advised only the owner Carey Riley can make such a decision and that she was unreachable at that time. Frustrated, but
understanding of travel needs, I waited two days until on 07/24 I was contacted by Mr. Gilles saying that he was approved to take $150 off of my $350 bill.
I told him I appreciated his efforts but that a $200 bill is still unsatisfactory considering I was never once asked if I would like the set broken down for $350 or that I may be charged separately if its indeed unable to be moved. I again tried to explain my situation to Mr. Gilles and he became noticeably upset, talking over me, raising his voice and telling me there was nothing else he could do. I stayed calm and never raised my voice and asked for the contact information of someone that does indeed have the power to rectify a situation such as this and he refused. While I understand it may be a directive not to give out the owner's phone/email, the approach that Mr. Gilles took was completely unprofessional, especially considering his title is Service Manager. He said the owner, Carey Riley was out of town and unreachable until August 4th and as I continued to ask how I could reach her with my case, he kept repeatedly saying, "August 4th. August 4th. August 4th." I told him again I understand his people did work and they need paid, but asked him to understand the issue from my side - explaining again that we were charged $200 for nothing. Mr. Gilles said "this conversation is over.." and hung up on me.
I am so blown away by the handling of this whole situation that I had to get it all down in writing. I have also been in the service
industry for the last 10 years and could never dream of treating a customer in such a fashion. I currently now supposed to wait until August 4th in order to discuss this with Carey Riley while in the mean time I am out $200, I have no swing set, and the owner of the swing set has a pile of junk stacked in their yard instead of a swing set that was at least visually appealing if not
still able to be played on. Now the owners of the swing set, long time and repeat customers of Rec Unlimited, have a unsightly heap in their yard.
It seems as though the techs, being the experts, had at least 2 opportunities to say something to the effect, "sir, would you like for us to still take this down for you? It may be too rotten to reassemble and if we take it down and cannot move it, you will still be charged $350". At which point I would have obviously said, "NO." No logical person would pay $350 to have a playset removed from someone else's yard (UNLESS that playset was going to be moved to their own yard...)
We hope Angie's List can help us resolve this.
Thank you for your time.
Response from Recreation Unlimited
"The member purchased (or was given) a very large used swing set from someone. He contacted us to tear the set down at the old owner's house and reassemble the set at his house. We quoted him $795. As the technicians were taking down the set they realized that the wood was not in good enough condition to reinstall the set. (It appeared old but we are NOT experts at knowing whether wooden pieces are sound.) We simply found the pieces to be in bad condition upon disassembling and advised him of this. We completed disassembly and let the member know that we did not feel the set could be reassembled properly as too many of the pieces were rotten. At that time, at the member's request, my technicians took the time to prepare a detailed list of the wooden pieces they felt may need to be repaired or replaced. We charged (member name removed) $200. Even if the technicians had arrived at the job and could have known before disassembling the set that it could not be reassembled, we would still have charged (member name removed) for the trip time and labor time of two men in a commercial truck. The member was only charged for a base trip charge and a service charge. We do not work for free. We stand by the fairness of our decision for the work performed."

Using a Groupon, I got about 50% off the regular cost of a child's birthday party. Recreation Unlimited has two party rooms off of their showroom for birthday parties, and then the children can play on the play sets, play houses, train tables, trampolines, and with the basketball goals. The party rooms are spacious and include low tables and chairs for small children (they ask that the birthday boy/girl be no older than 8), plus higher tables that could be used to serve food or hold gifts. The rooms also have a refrigerator and freezer and a sink.
It was very easy to schedule the birthday party over the phone, and I was sent an invoice by email. They were all ready for us when we arrived 15 minutes before our scheduled party start time. We had about 10 children in our party, and I would guess the party in the other room had the same, and there was plenty of space on the showroom floor for everyone.
The children and adults all had a great time. I would recommend this venue for any child age 3-8. Children younger than 3 would be hard to supervise or allow to be independent.
The party was amazing. Over 20 kids were able to try out all the different playgrounds, houses and trampolines. They were able to play basketball too. Had wonderful party room to give out cake and presents. The kids all had a blast and we would totally recommend this venue.
The playground equipment is top notch and when we are ready we will purchase from them as well.
Very professional. Called the day before to confirm appointment. Arrived on time and performed the work in a timely and professional manner. Stored equipment where we wanted, and cleaned area before leaving. Offered assistance to load on a trailer when we take unit to NC in a few months, if needed.
I would rate everything as good. I called them up after seeing some floor models on the website. The price included free installation. The delivery people arrived on time and installed the playground quite quickly. My only complaint is that the floor model set was a little beat up and faded.
They were great. I think there are probably other people who do it, but they are pretty well known in the Indianapolis area for their kind of service. For what I recall they were punctual. The price was fine, since I bought the best one. I would use them again in the future.

They have trampoulines and models of their playground equipment for children (age 2-12) to play on. They have great customer service and it is a great place to go year round. It is open 7 days a week.

Everyone is great when you're looking to buy. The installers did a good job installing the equipment in the summer heat. My frustration is that the playset arrived without three accessory pieces, which weren't cheap. I first asked the installers, and they said they could bring the missing pieces out the next day. I called later in the week and was told the pieces would be coming. I called again today and was told I could call back Monday and someone might be able to help me. After spending what I did, I get told I get the privilege of calling back a fourth time to inquire where the missing pieces are? Get real. The store can call me. I still don't know where these pieces are, I don't know when they'll be in. The company hasn't offered a credit or my money returned in the meantime. The product is nice, but for spending a fortune, a tiny, tiny bit of customer service would be appreciated. (Who in the service industry says, after you say you've already called in three times, to call back tomorrow?) You can buy this product at a competitor across town, right?

They did the work. They were nice and polite. It was a two day process. First day they came and dug the hole. Second day they put the goal and asked me if I had any questions. They showed me how to work it. I would use the in the future.

First someone came out and installed the foundation in the ground to bolt the goal post to. They did a good job and clean up well. Then they came out about a week later and stood up the basketball goal and bolted it to the foundation. This also looked good except that they gouged the post and scratched the edge of the backboard somehow. I called them and they did come out right away but they only sprayed a little black paint on the scratch and the rust came right through it again. I guess I will have to sand the rust and paint it myself.
