This job rates at 1.5 stars. <br /> The final cost of the work was affordable, but the end result was below professional standards.  For example, the handrails were not fully bolted down to the cemented step; one side of the front gate is visibly uneven and the side fence was not properly connected to the brick wall. My neighbor who is an experienced welder noticed them. The paint job was also sloppy and my property was left untidy after each workday.  The work crew is small (two guys to include the owner).  At times the owner would just leave his worker on the property unsupervised.  Since they don't wear uniforms I never knew who would be at my residence.  When I discussed these deficiencies with the owner, he just offered me a 10-year guarantee that he hand wrote on the final bill which also acted as my receipt.  Another thing the owner failed to do was to tell me he would need to use the water source in my house to mix the cement; use my electricity to power his tools and store his work tools in my shed.  Who does that?   <br /> Because the Angie's list ad reported this business was 4th generation family owned, I was anxious to support it.  Unfortunately in the end, this experience has left me feeling cheated and embarrassed because I believe the owner suspected my inexperience in dealing with contractors and just took advantage of me and my elderly father.   <br /> If you decide to do business with this company <strong>do your homework </strong>and insist on the appropriate documentation i.e., written itemized estimate and formal business practices.  If you find that you are not satisfied early on in the negotiations,  <strong>DON'T BE AFRAID TO WALK AWAY AND DELAY GRATIFICATION.  </strong> <br />

A new dead-bolt lock was installed on the door.  So far, no problems. <br />

Lawrence came out on a Saturday to fix the lock on our iron gate before we left for vacation. As we suspected, the lock was shot but Lawrence was able to replace it with newer version of the exact same Yale lock! Lawrence was extremely knowledgable regarding DC codes and explained that if we rented our house, we could call back and have the lock portion replaced with a handle! Great job! Would absolutely call them again!

Our experience overall with everyone at this business was extremely positive. We received an estimate within 2 days and the work was completed within the same week. Mr. Smith, the receptionist and the gentleman who installed the stair railings were courteous and professional.
