Richard The Handyman

Richard is excellent! The only problem with Richard is that he is so busy that he still hasn't had time to get on my next project of levelling the floor, installing the heat strips and setting 500 sq ft of 6x36 ceramic tile. He's going to start that next weekend and I'm sure that I will be giving you another review. All joking aside, Richard is very professional. He has very good equipment which says knowledge and success. He priced the job low and still did several extra things that I asked him to do while he was there. He asked for no extra money. Being a business owner myself, I felt that the job was so well done that I increased the total by 30% and still felt that I was underpaying. (Update) First let me say that Richard is an outstanding human being. I would trust him with my wallet. He works very hard to please the Customer. We are doing a complete remodel of our guest house and so far Richard has done the entire bedroom. That includes sheetrock, tile floor, paint and trim. As I stated in the previous review, he did a great job hanging the rock and did it so cheap that I paid him extra. The tile in that bedroom, about 450SqFt., is 6" X 36" on a very unlevel concrete slab. He worked his butt off getting that tile down. It wasn't perfect but I don't think anyone could have done better with that very difficult tile job. So, the sheetrock and tile were very good but then came the painting. The painting was really bad. I think that he got behind his scheduling because of the high difficulty of the tile job and rushed the paint. He chose to spray the walls and there is overspray everywhere. He put down tarps but they mare really for brush and roller work, not sprayers. Paint also shows the flaws in the sheetrock finishing and there were more quite a few. Richard worked diligently trying to fix them. I actually felt sorry for him, paid him and let him get on to his next job. I have another painter coming in to repair the paint job and I am working nights with paint thinner to clean the tile myself. I would still use Richard on some projects now that I know his skill level. I just expected too much from a man that bills himself as a handyman. All that said, if you have any tile job, Richard is as good as any contractor out there. I don't want to cost Richard any work. I own my business and admit that I have high expectations from other self-employed businessmen.

Wonderful. Mr Tolbert came out and looked over the project, took measurements and made an appt. to do the work. He was on time and it took less than an hour. He had pre-stained the finishing pieces and I'm very pleased with the results.

It went very well, he gave cost saving advice, and fixed items properly.

It was messy but that is to be expected when working on sheet-rock and carpentry. The work itself turned out very well. The job was to enlarge two closets, repair wood and sheet-rock, install two large doors with mirrors, casing, and paint. Good carpentry work; we had a couple of problems but he immediately asked what we thought and did not try to cover or hide the imperfection. Mr Tolbert was willing to redo a part that was not perfect - his suggestion. That, perhaps, is the most important quality: if something is not right, he will tell you, discuss ways to improve, and redo if necessary. He brought a helper to paint two rooms and the helper too was very professional. I would definitely hire him again to do carpentry, painting and other handyman work. My only 4 star instead of 5 was because it took him a while to get back to me with an estimate and a possible start day - that could be because he is overwhelmed with work. We had expected 4 days of work: 1 per closet, and 1 per painted room. He finished in 3 days (once he got a helper it went faster).

I would definitely call Richard again for projects around my house. He was very professional and even secured a few loose pieces of trim in my kitchen at no charge when I asked him how much he would charge me to do it. Nice man and I would highly recommend him.

Mr. tolbert was always on time, courteous, professional, and knowledgeable about his job every aspect of his job. I liked working with him because he gave his prices upfront, his prices did not change at the end, of the work. The work was very professionally done. I have had no leaks no problems of any kind since. I also forgot to mention that a pipe burst inside the wall in the guest bathroom shower there was a leak. He put a couple of holes in the sheet rock took out the old copper piping put in new fixed up the sheet rock and gave me an excuse to paint the inside of the guest closet orange. I am very very happy with the work that Mr. Tolbert provides. I myself am a New Yorker new to the south and I like things done in a particular manner. Mr. Tolbert is very qualified. I would suggest you give him a try. You can't not go wrong. These days with plumbers what they try to charge is ridiculous I've believe you will find this to Tolbert to be reasonable.

Richard is great! This is the second time I have hired him for work around my house. He always has fair pricing, says when he comes he will, and is very trustworthy! He does quick work and will bring a helper to expedite the process. I will definitely hire him again for any upcoming work.

Richard is finishing up the project (built a tile shower and installed new floor) today. I have no hesitation to wait until it's finished later today to write this. He's amazing and the work is the best. While the bathroom is upstairs, we agreed to use the bathroom window to throw out the old pieces of shower and flooring so that he wouldn't track through the house and make it more efficient. He put cardboard on the deck outside the window to prevent damage to the deck. There were a few places on the window sill that needed sanding and touch up paint. He is the one who brought it to my attention and let me know he would be taking care of it. It's the little details that make his work and him the best!

Repair in one day at very reasonable cost.

Richard is a patient, task-oriented, thorough, all around handyman! Had about 3 days of work to do a variety of miscellaneous jobs for a home we purchased. His quotes are cost plus, fair pricing. Would hire again.

Richard was fantastic.....AWESOME.... he was the best... and I can't say anything more than that. Richard did everything that we had asked him to help us with and more. He also identified some very serious problems and issues at our project, such as termite damage behind the walls, and then he fixed the problems....right "ON THE SPOT", and “the best part”… for a reasonable fee. He took on this tough project with ease. He did a fantastic job installing our new windows, doors and also painting the interior. He was very professional at all times. He was always on time to the job and was always there when he said he would be there. MOST IMPORTANT… he never wasted any time on our job. He was a diligent worker. We would recommend Richard THE HANDYMAN to everyone. He is very good, very knowledgeable, courteous and honest person. Richard is the only person to hire. He was one of the best skilled contractors that we have hired for this project so-far. Richard also had a helper on the project, Marcus, and he was very excellent, polite and very hard working too. Richard was extremely helpful, giving us tips and great advice on how we could do things better on our projects and also how we could complete some other tasks ourselves. He was very conscious of staying within our budget. We appreciated that very much, especially with the added work that we asked him to complete while on the job. We would definitely hire Richard again and would recommend him to everyone who is hiring someone from Angie’s List. Richard is one of the best you will find. Communication on the front end was a little tricky - I would call him rather than use Angie's List to write to him. Overall we were exceptionally pleased. Great guy. Has a helper for 2-man work. Cost to do everything (including running around for components) was less than we were quoted for a basketball installation crew to show up and do the install after we did all the running around to get things ready for them. My son says the hoop is more sturdy than it ever was before.

Pretty well. Bathroom Vanity was awesome. He replaced our window facing and did a great job as well. Painting was good, however the door facings began peeling and in one spot at the stove was not filled in with putty, just painted.

He was late, but once he got to the house he was quickly able to remove the old wood and cut new wood on the spot. It fit perfectly and looks great!

He kept right to the estimate and communicated any changes in cost prior to incurring the expense.  Richard is knowledgeable in many areas of house repair and maintenance.  He made sure we were satisfied with his work which we were.  I would recommend Richard to anyone in his service area.   <br />
