I wasn't really happy with their work. These contractors they advertise a big deal and you pay for it and then they totally come in and tell you that it is going to cost a lot more than that. They just want to get a foot in the door with that. His work wasn't all that great but he got the job done. My husband and he worked out a deal but the quality of work wasn't that great. I don't have any specific complaint other than that. The quality was not there. They did the work very slow and would come back to finish it quickly which was sloppy work.

The owner of the company, I initially dealt with him but, he sent other people out because he was going to be out of town. They did the job we asked them to do. One of the guys went to home depot to buy supplies and stuff. At the end of the job it was $100 more dollars than what we had been quoted. We did ask them to do more work than we had planned but, the owner had given us a quote. I talked to the owner on the phone about this and I ended up paying what we had agreed upon originally. The two guys didn’t push me on this but I still think it was not right to try to get more money out of me.

My husband and I will be forever grateful to Rick for taking on the project. He is trustworthy and his attention to detail made the difference in the outcome of the room. Rick went above and beyond the typical handyman job. I would recommend him to any of my friends. They would be as pleased with his work as we were.
Thank you for the opportunity to share our experience.

I had a To Do list of items in order of importance for the contractor. The first item was simply replacing 3 pieces of facial board. When he started this job a 1' x 1' section of board under the roof was rotten. So the job was more involved than originally determined by me. To save time, I went to purchase a couple roofing items needed. I had saved some roofing tiles from original re-roof many years ago. He ran an errand while I went shopping. When I came back, he had brought some extra roofing felt that he had. This saved me $20-25. He finished the roofing job and caulked it very well. Also mentioned that the flashing on our house was put on incorrectly, which caused this issue. He told me what needed to be done, so my husband did it when he came home, since he could do that himself. Next, he stabilized the dishwasher. Last item was outdoor kitchen back splash that was loose. He removed, scraped old adhesive and caulk from pieces. Then re-adhesive back in place and caulked.
My To Do list was long, but he was able to get to my top 3 items. I had received a quote on the facial board repair of only $299 from another company. I thought it was an outrageous price. I was pleased that Dalton could do this type of work in addition to my other items. It saved me money and quality work was done!

I think they did an okay job. They are good construction-wise, but probably are not the best at working with customers or cleaning up afterwards.

I reached out to Rick through Angieslist on Sunday evening and he called me about 30 mins later. He does a great job of keeping you informed about time lines and he is very punctual. He is a down to earth guy and very respectful. His project completed ahead of schedule which is always great. Also, I found it refreshing that he was very open and upfront with the cost break down and I think he is very reasonable for the A+ Quality of work he performed. I was kept in the loop on the steps and the plans he drew up and actually was interested in my feedback. Awesome experience.

Rick called my very quickly to schedule the installation of the tile shower. Through out the whole process Rick maintain open and effective communication, and kept me informed at all phases of construction. He worked efficiently and fast and I received an extremely accurate quote. I thoroughly enjoyed his professionalism, communication, and customer service. I have already referred him out to another friend of mine who is looking to get some work done.
Mr. Dalton not only got back with me right away but he came the day after I contacted him. He quoted and charged me a very fair price and the quality of his work is awesome!! Another company was going to charge me twice as much and had the nerve to ask me if I could provide a second person to lift the TV! Mr. Dalton picked up the TV on his own. Not only will I call him again but I will definitely recommend him to my friends.

I hated it. It was horrible. He came here the first day, left for 2 and half hours to get paint and he brought an extra person, whom he charged for. He came 3 days total but his extra person only came for 2 days. He would come each day for just a few hours.

I wanted the attic door painted with some molding. The extra person that was there did this beautifully. The main person spackled, treated, scrapped, and painted a 6 X 6 foot patch on the ceiling. He got paint all over our brand new trash cans and didn't even bother to clean it. Looking at finished the work, it's horrible.

He charged me an extra $190 for labor. He told me anytime I needed to speak with him, to call him specifically, rather than dealing with Angie's List. He himself was physically here 5 hours, he was gone for maybe an hour and a half for getting the paint, the other man was here for about an hour and half, which equaled total 8 hours. So I'm not sure where the extra charge came from.

I didn't make a fuss, I just gave him the money and he left. He was so unprofessional and inappropriate for him to tell me what Angie's List gets from the Big Deal verses what he gets and then charge me so much extra. He had a lot of nerve by berating Angie's List.

Now I'm going to have to pay someone else to come re-do what he did as it's not even.
Response from Rickey Daltons Handyman
"I was not aware of any of her problems. I would be glad to come and fix anything she has a problem with. And by the way, my helper did not do the trim around the attic door he cut all the pieces wrong and I footed the extra cost for material and labor and did It myself. [member name removed] was a very nice lady. I wish people would tell me when they have a problem so I can take care of it."

I would not recommend him again. When he left, he didn’t seal any of the windows like you could still see light coming outside between the wood and the glass. He didn’t finish the trim work. He didn’t seal where he had nailed things. There were still nails poking out and stuff. He said that that wasn’t part of his deal. He said his deal was just to get the work done and not to trim it out. I wouldn’t recommend him again. He actually brought another couple of guys with him when he came to do the work and once they had taken the front doors off of the house and they were measuring and stuff, I had to ask his guys not to smoke inside my house which I thought was kind of not very good. He was very responsive except once we weren’t satisfied with the end result.

Mr. Dalton was eager to get started on all the projects that I mentioned I needed to have done. He started off with 2 helpers and then it grew to 4 helpers and then to 6. I finally told him I did not want more than 2-4 workers on property. I could not keep track of all of them and what all was being done and how long it was taking along with keeping track of the times they were there and when they went to lunch etc. Our gate code was entrusted to Mr. Dalton and he gave that out to all his crew so they could come and go freely instead of ringing the buzzer out at our gate before coming in.
Most of the time Rick himself was not there to supervise. He was getting supplies and also placing workers on other jobs simultaneously. I was paying him and his crew by the hour. He would charge me for time spent on the computer looking for products to use in our home. There was no way to monitor that...
He had promised to haul off all trash associated with the work being done. Instead it was all left behind part of our house that we normally do not see. I had to hire someone else to clean up the mess and still need to have it hauled off to a dump.
Mr. Dalton painted the spindles on our staircase with a different paint than what I had asked him to use. I asked him to paint over the paint he used. That was not my mistake but his and yet I paid for the new paint (as well as the first paint) plus paid for the labor to do it over again.
I asked him to sand and restain and seal some wood steps inside our grand hall area. It seemed to be a trial and error situation for weeks and weeks. The sanding made a mess in spite of promising me that there would be no dust etc. I had to suggest using some kind of a vacuum while working to at least suck up some of the debris in the air! The staining and sealing was redone at least 3 times. Now the steps do not match with other wood very close by. Also tape was used to protect the wood when spindles were being painted and when the tape was removed the fresh finish on the wood was also removed!
Two major projects were left unfinished=greenhouse and spa room.
Mr. Dalton told me that everyone quit working for him last week so he would be working by himself which is what he preferred.
He worked for 2 days and then brought someone new with him to help him try to at least finish the painting.
Mr. Dalton was to return on Monday 9/23/2013 to see about leaving that one person to finish up on some of the work before I was leaving town for 2 weeks. He had told me that he was going into the hospital later that morning to have kidney stones removed.
Mr. Dalton did not show up. He did not even call me. One of his "ex" employees showed up at my front door without buzzing me from the front gate. He told me Mr. Dalton had sent him over to pick up the mess under our staircase by the grand hall as he (Rick Dalton) was in the hospital already and the doctors told him he would be too sore to work that week. I had to tell this worker to put all the materials (which I had paid for) in my garage instead of in the back of his own car which is where Mr. Dalton had told him to put it.
I did some investigating and found out that Mr. Dalton lied to me and was actually on another job that day!
Honesty and integrity are first and foremost in my book! I am very disappointed in how Mr. Dalton handled the situation !
I believe that Mr. Dalton is a hard worker but trying to get things done by trial and error is not acceptable when I pay by the hour.
I believe that a higher degree of professionalism is needed by him and the people he hires.
Signage on his vehicle would be appropriate...
I purchased a big deal from Angie's List. They did the job. They were probably a little less than professional, but they did the work. They kind of left a mess, but the work that was done that was the most important thing. They were two people for like two and a half days, so we just paid some extra for that.

Mr. Dalton and his associate removed the old caulk and re-caulked all of my windows and doors which will save me an enormous amount of money on heating and cooling bills. They nailed and caulked my garage bucks (I didn't even know these were bad until Mr. Dalton brought this to my attention). They dug up and repaired my sprinkler head. This was more than necessary because the damage was under ground. I've had the head changed before but no one thought to dig underneath the ground to find the problem. They repaired several mortar joints in my brick. They removed bricks that were separating on my patio and around my flower garden, added new mortar to them and made them look like new. They cemented the corners on my slate that had been broken off by lawn mowers, etc. They installed two soaker hoses around the house and advised me on how these work.
My biggest applause to Mr. Dalton is his honesty. He came into my home and treated it as if it was his own and did not charge me an outrageous amount of money. He was very upfront with me about the condition of my foundation and did not try to sell me something I didn't need. He simply showed me how to head off a larger problem and told me we would revisit the situation in about a month. If the cracks do not continue to get larger, he explained to me how we would fix those and if they did, how we would correct that situation also. I think Mr. Dalton is a man of integrity and he will continue to be the one I call for future help with my home. I have given his name and telephone number to everyone in my office.

It could not have gone better. Rick and his crew did an amazing job on all parts of the projects we asked him to do and then some. Rick oversaw every aspect of the work done. He delivered on every commitment made. The jobs were completed in a timely manner and for an exceptionally great price. We will use Rick and his team every chance we get.

Contractor left damage to existing piping, damaged additional sheet rock. He did not fully understand the plumbing issues. He left the first day, after a while we noticed water was leaking from the pipe he capped. Once it reached the P-Trap in the ceiling, water started coming out of it. He came back out that night and took the cap off and made it a straight pipe. He did not return the next day, at that point we became more and more unhappy with his work. Called Angie's List to start the Conflict Resolution Process. Reached agreement with company through Angie's List, we just wanted to be done with him because we were concerned he was going to cause more damage. At the very least it was not a very good experience.

"Customer was very hard to deal with and told us we had to leave after only 3 hours on job because his wife was coming home and we could not work while she was home. Plus customer never pulled permits or had inspections on a/c work that another company did."

Showed up on time the first day and did not show up on second day to finish. Showed up late on third, fourth, and fifth day. Left early on most days. Work on first and third days seemed okay and solidly done. Work on last day was poor including using Sheetrock tape and caulking only to cover up an opening that is about 10 inches wide and 3 or 4 inches tall; the exposed opening was to be a precision cut in wood around an air duct. They also used sheetrock screws to affix wood trim and clumped caulk over the screws and surface of the wood trim. Workers used my tools on one day without asking and then told me they couldn't do part of the work because they didn't have the right tools. When I told them they should have asked if I had the needed tool they mentioned they did use some of the ones that were out, but did not want to look unprofessional by asking to use tools. Owner bad mouthed his workers and their professionalism to me and complained about Angie's list to me as we'll. When I informed him that I did not need his company to return and finish the work, he complained about my judging his unfinished work and left a rather unprofessional voicemail of the same tone he used previously to talk about Angie's list and his workers. If i was on the fence about his continuing the work, the voicemail made my decision clear. Workers also took my 25 pound bucket of sheetrock screws and a dimmer switch. I understand that some people in construction have their quirks and that things can come into play to make jobs go more quickly or more slowly. This is my first time using Angie's list and I suspect that this company got overwhelmed with an Angie's list coupon promotion and grew his business too quickly. I did not use the coupon promotion for these services. The cost of the job included labor and materials. I provided all materials.
"(removed member name) got me and my men in her home to straighton out her and her husbands mess ups then refused to let us finish when it got down to the last two hours of work. then she refused to pay me the $750.00 of the bill. i lost $350.00 on the job.plus the $750.00 she owes me. Plus she never pulled permits like she said,"
