Here's what I will tell you....if you want a gate/fence installed that works/looks good, Steve Ritter can do that. If you also want a headache of hiring somebody who won't call you back, hiring somebody won't show up to your house when he says, hiring somebody won't keep in contact with you about the status of your project and any possible dates of installation, and talking to his secretary (Rhonda) who has no answers to any of your questions and can't seem to get Steve to call you back (Her own words "I can tell him but I can't make him call you back!"), then Steve Ritter is the man you want for the job.

Hiring Steve was only because we needed him through the failings of a previous company. We needed a gate installed on an existing fence...that fence was actually my neighbors, but we decided as neighbors, that we wanted a gate between our yards. We were having work done on our fence which looked IDENTICAL to their fence, but apparently it wasn't and it couldn't get completed. Long story to the point of this review, we called Ritter Fence when it was realized that Ritter had installed their fence and he could match up the gate to existing fence.

As I mentioned above, Steve was very unreliable. After he did his initial visit, I had to call him up various things: Getting the down payment to him and getting on his schedule (he came a day after he said he would come), getting the correct model of the gate (he never told me in the end), finding when my date of install was (First it was the end of August, but August came and went and he never called. I called and it was early September and it never showed when Steve himself said it would. Finally, I called angrily about everything and spoke with Rhonda and Steve called back (!!) and it was installed the following week, toward the end of September). In total, an approximate 6 week job because about an 9 week job.

The best part though was when the gate was finally installed. His crew didn't leave a bill asking for the remaining payment....I thought weird, but maybe they would mail it to me like another company did. Now as I said, Steve can't call back or show up as he says, but I'll be damned, he showed up at my house that night close to 9pm (without calling, without any notice) looking for payment. Granted, he is deserved his money, but I was still stupified. I wrote his check for him and shared everything I am sharing with you...complete and utter disappointment in him and his company.

He shared that he's just real busy and that he's got a small crew and they were really booked and that the last few years his communication has gotten a lot worse and he's heard about it from other people....all self admitted.

So there you have it....that was our experience with Ritter Fence Company. The only reason I stayed with him was because he could match the gate to the existing fence. If I had to have him install an entire fence, maybe he'd care more....I don't know...but did I mention the gate looks good and works?
