We had an excellent experience working with RJ Construction. They renovated our existing deck, replacing some rotted support posts, demolishing and replacing the deck rail, and related work. They have been in business a long time. The owner provided good expert advice to guide our choice of products and materials when formulating the contract. The work crew was unobtrusive and highly skilled. They started and completed the work within the time promised. And they have been responsive to a couple of post-contract concerns. They provided a valuable combination experience, quality, responsiveness and service at a fair price and we highly recommend them.

RJ Construction made significant repairs to our 30 year old cedar deck, stairs and screened porch. The old wood was replaced by Trex; a modern railing and screen system were installed; and the porch posts wrapped in a white pvc trim. The result is an outstanding modern looking porch/deck. Working with Robert was easy from beginning to end. He understood what we wanted, gave us good ideas and was timely in all communications with us. His team was also excellent in both the construction phase and in cleaning up the significant amount of wood and nails from the demolition of the old decking.

I called RJ and they came out promptly. They were the third estimate I received for deck support post replacement repairs. They provided the most reasonable approach to the work with a competitive and fair price. I spent time with the owner, Robert, customizing the work. His crew was out within 2 days and did a top notch with no issues. Job well done. ???

I called RJ on Monday after finding a deck support post rotted through and another one rotting worried for the worst. Robert was out Tuesday, reassured me, and provided a VERY reasonable quote. He also offered some ideas for cosmetic improvement. I accepted the quote Tuesday evening, his guys were out here Thursday replacing the posts!! They did a fantastic job, very friendly and professional, they left the yard cleaner than it was when they arrived! They returned the very next week to do the cosmetic work which looks fantastic. Great team, great work, great quality. Could not have a higher opinion of RJ Construction, very highly recommend.

I interviewed 3 deck companies before hiring RJ Construction. Robert, the owner, was easy to work with. The estimate was very reasonable and thorough for removing the old deck, updating the sub structure, and building a new trex deck. The work was done shortly after signing the contract. His crew was amazing; very skilled and careful. The work was done within the contracted time, but not always on consecutive days. Periodically and at the end Robert came to evaluate the work and had the crew return to tweak a few minor issues. The end result was a deck that exceeded my expectations and met my high standards.

Robert Altendorf and his team were AMAZING. From the drawings, to construction to handling permits and inspectors, RJ Construction (out of Germantown, NOT Baltimore) were professional, affordable, prompt, and courteous. Their craftsmanship and work guarantee are excellent. We were given accurate estimates, clear and easy to understand contracts, daily check-ins on work progress, and even suggestions how to make our project even better with small changes that did not affect our budget. We never once felt pressured to upgrade , Robert worked with us within our budget to create a professional finish we love! We will continue to hire Robert and his team for all remodeling work, inside and out, we have to do anywhere within his work district, even if we move to another property. It is hard to find such hardworking, honest crews who strive to understand what you want and then give you quality on a budget. Can't tell you how much easier it is to do a project knowing you can trust your contractor to do what you want, and to help you decide what you want even when you don't know it yet. They also replaced our roof in less than 2 days, for a price less than HALF that of their competitors, with better materials and a better work guarantee/warranty.

Robert and his crew at RJ Contract did a fantastic job refurbishing my 30 year old deck. Very professional, great craftmanship, top notch communication - I couldn't be happier. Deck is essentially brand new with new composite decking and vinyl railing. I highly recommend anyone needing a new deck or a restoration to give RJ a call. You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic Company!! As a time sensitive matter to place my home on the market, I needed deck repairs (2 ledger boards, joist hangers and a rail). Robert (the owner) responded to my telephone call immediately and came out within a couple of days to assess the job. The work was then completed by Alvaro, who was just as personable, knowledgeable and an extremely hard worker. He completed the ledger boards and joist hangers same day and returned promptly the next morning to repair the rail that was not even part of the original assessment but added later at *no cost*. Yet, this did not prevent him from working just as diligently as if it were not free! I also have to mention, Richard who assisted with the rail and possessed the same knowledge and personable qualities as Robert and Alvaro. Bottom Line: You can't go wrong by selecting this company, you'll get prompt, reasonable service with a "We Aim to Please" attitudes!

The best contractor I have ever worked with, hands down. Robert was extremely responsive and very helpful with suggestions in the deck design. His no-pressure approach made it very easy to work with him. His price for the complete project was very reasonable, especially given the quality provided. His crew is top notch, polite, and clearly are pros at building decks. The deck was started much sooner than originally estimated, and within 5 days was done. They left the construction area spotless, removing all debris and "fixing" my yard where needed. A ++

We contracted Robert and his company after seeking estimates from 4 other deck builders for a tear-down of old deck and replacement. We initially wanted PT Pine only as we were familiar with it. After listening to Robert and upon thoroughly comparing composite versus wood decks online, we opted for his recommended Trex/Azek composite combination. However, Robert was happy to install whatever we chose. There was no hard sell to move up to Trex. We also wanted 2 benches, an elevated planter, flower boxes and a privacy lattice built. Since we used composite material for the deck and railing, this required significant design and construction ingenuity. Our project was then flawlessly executed by his team of employees. The end result: Outstanding!!! And, coupled with very fair and reasonable pricing, we chose the BEST company. We are REALLY glad we listened to his recommendations.

Robert from RJ Construction came out promptly and discussed the new, composite, 12' x 20' deck design with my wife and I. Based on Robert's proposed deck plans and the many outstanding reviews on Angie's List, we went with RJ Construction. Robert offered a lot of extras for the cost (like picture frame decking, custom stairway, deck lattice, and extensive posts/rails). The deck was built quickly, especially considering the delays due to our very rainy spring weather. The quality of the finished deck was outstanding. The skill of the deck builders was exceptional. My wife and I could not be more satisfied with RJ Construction. Highly recommended.

Having had several contractor nightmares, ALL highly rated on Angie's List, I was pleased to find Robert. He was very attentive, reasonable, and came to the job site several times to ensure proper adherence to the building code and the level of workmanship. The price was better than most, and he guaranteed that I would be satisfied with the product and handicraft. His crew foreman came out almost every day, including sub-freezing days and completed most of the work by himself. When there were problems, they were addressed and rectified immediately. Minor alterations to the project were handled on the spot and larger changes due to unforeseen problems were negotiated through Robert. ALL general contractors should have this level of professionalism and integrity.

I needed to replace my 35 year old deck. I contacted three companies for estimates. RJ Construction got my business. Angieslist reviews played a big part in my contractor selection. Robert (the owner of RJ Construction) was very professional and a down to earth person. He provided pictures of his recent work, which was a big plus. We have a 15x30 deck and the price we paid was reasonable, especially since we used Trex instead of wood decking. Robert also showed us the parts of the existing deck that would not be up to local building codes. We addressed those issues prior to construction and came up with satisfactory solutions. He also gave us ideas on some of the smaller details of the build, which added to the overall 'curb' appeal. After we got the initial quote, we had a couple of add-on items, ($800) which Robert said the price would be 'very reasonable'. I would have paid double for the extra work that was done. Robert will take care of you.

RJ Construction was great from the bidding stage to the final completion of our elevated porch and deck project. Robert, who is President of the Company, had many good suggestions to improve our design and drew up detailed plans for the County permits. His crew were all skilled carpenters who did an excellent job on both the framing and finish work. Robert and the crew were easy to work with and flexible in making requested changes at reasonable cost. All in all, we are very pleased with our well-built porch and decks and highly recommend RJ Construction to others.
