He couldn't find anything wrong so I was very happy with that. He didn't ask for anything more other than the big deal. I like the fact that he did come out. It didn't take long for him to get here and did the job. I think the pricing was reasonable. He knew what he was doing and he knew what to look for.

They were fine and they came as they said. They gave us an overview of the roof. They were efficient and professional and told us what we wanted to know. It was a good deal. They got the job done in about 35-40 minutes. The scheduling was convenient and they called us to set a time to come out.

Even though they were on-time it didn’t turn out well. Communication with them was brief.

I live in Florida and my home (rental) is in the Bay Area. Although The repairs were small, they needed to be done ASAP and Rudy was very prompt and fit me into his schedule. I believe I've found my permanent handyman...
The gentleman who came to do the work (Rudy) was friendly and punctual, but just didn't seem very detail-oriented or professional, and he didn't come to the job very prepared.
He came to install a skylight tube. He went up into our attic and started working - and he cut a hole in our ceiling down from the attic without *measuring the dimensions* first. After punching a big hole in the ceiling he realized he couldn't put the skylight tube there because there were framing members in the attic that restricted his access, and the skylight tube wouldn't fit but he'd already made a big hole there. So then he asked to borrow our tape measure because he hadn't brought his with him (?!?). After trying for quite some time to shave away the beams in the attic and make the skylight tube fit, he gave up and cut away the attic beams. Finally he could have room for the skylight tube. Except then he had to brace the beams in the attic to reinforce the area he'd cut away. But he didn't have any materials in his truck that would work. So again he asked if we had anything in the house he could use. We scrounged around down in our garage and found some pressure-treated 2-by-4's that he cut & nailed & used to brace the beam cutout in the attic. By his own admission they were the wrong size and the wrong material, but that's what he used. When he was finished with the skylight tube installation, the area of the ceiling around the tube opening was cracked, smudged, gouged, and all-around pretty ugly. We had no choice but to leave it that way until next time we repaint the ceiling, so it still looks bad even today.
He also installed a solar attic fan, and he gave us a discount after all the adventures with the skylight tube. A discount was nice, but I wouldn't hire him again. Now I'm considering bringing in another contractor to repair the damage he did in the attic.
I had read about how people inspecting roofsoften take pictures to show the client, but this gentleman didn't even get close enough to take a picture.
He walked around the house, did not get on the roof or climb a ladder to look at it. I had shown him inside where there was a leak. After walking around the house He said there was no point in fixing anything because the whole roof needed replacing. He said I could use the $99 toward a new roof, but gave me no written material or estimate, or even a verbal discussion or estimate abour a new roof. Not only did he not do any kind of repair, his "inspection" was sorely lacking. I felt like he did nothing but walk around and look up at the roof and I didn't even gain any information; yet was still out $100..
Due to some renovation and repair work, there were large areas of ceiling over the kitchen and master bath where the insulation had been removed. The rest of the house had old cellulose insulation that had been settling for several years. All in all, in the winter cold the lack of insulation was noticeable. RJL Installation ran a special with a discount on Angie's List to pay $149 for $500 worth of installed attic insulation. I bought the special and was contacted by RJL. I was really only wanting the areas where insulation was missing to be covered, but it turned out that the cost was not much greater to get the entire attic covered. I was somewhat taken aback by the total price ($1,149.50 on top of the original $149.00), but decided that the insulation was needed in any case, so that was why I gave the C rating for price. I felt a bit trapped because I had already paid for the discounting and didn't know how to get that money back if I had decided that I didn't want to pay as much as the final quoted price.
The installer thought that there should be some sort of access port or window or something to get into the attic from outside the house, and seemed surprised that the house was built with only a hallway ceiling opening for attic access. Once we established that that was, indeed, the only way to get up there, the installer proceeded to bring a large hose through the front door and the hallway and into the attic. When he was in place, his assistant started feeding compressed bales of fiberglass-like insulation through a machine that broke up the compressed insulation and "fluffed" it and blew it through the large hose to be blown in place. When the installation work was completed, I was invited to climb the ladder to take a look at the coverage, using a large flashlight as my light source. From the ladder, the insulation looked to be level across as much of the attic as I could see (almost all the attic, in truth), and appeared to be deep enough to be effective. When they were finished with the installation, the installer and his assistant borrowed a broom and managed to sweep up almost all of any insulation that had found its way to where it was not wanted.
All in all, an acceptable job. I thought about giving an overall rating of B, but except for the price, the other categories rated an A.
