Robco Fence and Deck LLC

In early June, I contracted with Robco to build a deck with a $10K deposit, but still have yet to complete the permitting process. Today is Oct 14. In the past, when they wanted to reach me, it was fast. There were challenges - Wake County referred the permitting over to Cary. Cary said today they're waiting on Robco. For 10 days, I've been unable to contact anyone via phone or the portal - all voicemail boxes are full. I have a bad feeling they've gone under. A+ up til now.

I hired them to replace a fence and convert a deck to a screened porch in May. The fence was completed in July but they never fulfilled the porch, despite my providing a 50% deposit for the entire job. I just received an email that they are out of business: "Regretfully, because of recent issues with a reduction of crews and other economic factors, we will be forced to close our doors and discontinue operations." It goes on to say: "Moving forward, we plan to review all pending contracts and currently scheduled jobs to get an accounting of the customers who have paid deposits for services that we cannot perform."

We decided to use Robco for our deck replacement. After taking our deposit (50% of project cost) and canceling or simply not showing for multiple appointments with us we decided we no longer wished to work with this company. We told them this and that we wanted our deposit back as no work had been started. The company is refusing to return any of our calls, emails or contact us in any way. We are looking into taking legal action to get our money back since this company will not communicate with us. I would absolutely not recommend them to anyone.

We accepted a proposal from Robco Fence and Deck LLC on 08/23/2019 to install a new picket fence on our property. In order to move forward, Robco requested a 50% deposit to begin scheduling the work. Our installation date was set for 09/23/2019. The morning of 09/23, I received a call from Robco informing me that the company was restructuring, would be canceling all projects and working to refund deposits to customers. No date was given when deposits would be returned. That was my last contact with the company. All emails and voicemails have gone unanswered.

We had a great initial experience with Robco - they were prompt and friendly throughout the installation process. They are not the cheapest guy on the block but we paid the premium because a) they came recommended to us, and as you can see, are highly reviewed and b) the assumption was made you get what you pay for. I can assure you we did not get what we paid for (which, for context, was a 6ft wood privacy fence with two gates for a 1/3 acre lot, including an upgraded wood option, whatever that means). Less than two months after our $7k installation, boards started severely warping. To the point of seeing gaps in our fence. We spoke with a project manager who agreed to fix the problem but then went dark. After MUCH back and forth with a customer service rep, we learned that said project manager didn’t work there anymore but because we had written proof that he had promised to fix it, they reluctantly agreed to replace the damaged boards - but were quick to point out the contract they make everyone sign that says their fences are only warrantied for FOURTEEN DAYS. Shame on me for not reading the fine print but seems a clever way to hide any possible worksmanship issues or responsibility for their work behind the claim of using a “natural product”. Less than two years later and my fence looks like it’s 20 years old - especially when compared to others in the neighborhood who installed around the same time, some even using Robco. Warped boards and posts, entire panels leaning in and the nails in the caps and top boards coming completely undone. I have had several wood fences installed in my properties by competitive companies and have never, ever seen these issues. I reached out to Jay Robison, the owner, to try and get someone from RobCo to at least come out and take a look and possibly remedy the issues, and got a response that essentially told me that I was out of luck (I did sign that contract, after all), it would be too expensive for them to fix all of the warped boards (their money is more important than mine, apparently), he’s sure it’s not a workmanship issue (though he did not ask to see a single photo or the fence itself), next time I should stain the fence (we did, within two weeks of installing), the quality claims made on the Robco website probably didn’t refer to my job (unsure who exactly they DO refer to, then), and next time I should just get a vinyl fence. Needless to say, you should go elsewhere if you’re looking for a company that stands by their work longer than two weeks. Robco isn’t it. We hired Robco for a major hard scape job with a wood burning fireplace, pergola and paver patio. Our contract stated that all work would be built to code, permits and final inspections handled by Robco and included. We’ve learned afterwards they never pulled permits, and did not build to code and have ignored our request to remediate. I’ve tried for months to get them to resolve and they have ignored the situation. The city is denying a CO on a recent addition as a result of it and Robco will not take responsibility for their breach of contract and liability. I have hired an attorney to assist with getting Robco to resolve. This post is factual, contains no opinion of Robco, and is backed by my signed contract and evidence of non code work performed without permitting.

Great experience, sales through installation. Detailed quote during sales process and hardworking crew that left the yard in good shape despite the rain that we had just prior.

Wayne from Robco was great. He got the quote back to us quickly and was great with answering our questions. The two gentlemen that installed were fantastic. They arrived on time and worked until sundown. We would recommend them to all our family and friends.

From the estimator and office staff to the installers everything was smooth and very professionally executed. I requested four different estimates and Robco's offer was better than 10% lower than offers 2 and 3 and 22% lower than the number 4 offer. Overall I was 100 percent satisfied with all aspects of the fence from estimating, pricing, scheduling, and last but not least the actual installation. If any neighbors ask about fencing, I will provide them Robco's name and contact information.

Someone came out quickly to give us an estimate and scheduled the work quickly as well. Majority of the deck construction was done within a few weeks. Cleanup, fixing accidentally cut irrigation pipes, putting in new siding, painting new siding and final touch ups were all left. That's when the problems started. It was another 2 months before all the items were addressed, during which time we had materials lying around the driveway and the backyard. There was terrible communication regarding the completion of outstanding items. We needed to leave multiple messages and phone calls to get any updates. There were 2 weeks with no communication at all, and this happened twice. After everything was finally done (about 2 months after we expected the job to be completed), we noticed that something did not look right with the bench on the deck. We contacted Robco and they said they would send someone out to fix the problems. No one ever came and all future messages have gone unanswered. The lack of professionalism in this company is astounding.

We are satisfied with the end result, but communication and follow through by project managers and then management was very poor. We thought we were paying a premium for high end service, but sorely disappointed on that front. The work itself does look good and meeting expectations so far. Glad it is finally done!

After extensive competitive analysis I ended up choosing Robco for their knowledge and competitive pricing. They answered all my questions, had all the right answers, and made sure I was satisfied every step of the way. Robco did a great job from start to finish which includeda a double gate, an extension of a shadow box fence with elevation change and a curved chain link fence.

Sales person, Chris, is easy to deal with; the 3 installer guys worked quickly and the workmanship turned out really well; Only slight issue was we waited for about 2 weeks for one gate that was not delivered on time of scheduled installation to be finally installed. But overall, we're satisfied with the job result!

Every aspect of this project with Robco was professional. I did a fair amount of research before even contacting fencing companies for an estimate, so Robco passed those background checks (Angie's List Better Business Bureau, Google, Nextdoor) with flying colors.Their estimator was timely, thorough and more straightforward (regarding permits, especially) than the other two estimates we received. Their price was competitive. The communication through their Web site/Buildertrend was great. They secured our permit for us.The crew showed up on time and did a great job on the fence.
