Sam the Concrete Man

Started off great, they were on time, helpful and seemed to know what they were doing. They were even able to speed up the install time and start a day early but we had to skip our pre-construction meeting and he had us tell him the colors from the brochure over the phone. After a delay with the cement truck, we missed the concrete pouring by a day because we were out of town, I really wish we had been there. There were cosmetic blemishes over a majority of the patio. The pics below show just a small portion of what it looked like. They did come back out a few times to try and do repairs over the course of a month but it never looked right. After a disappointing conversation with their corporate office we took the credit they offered after we were told an alternate option would be to put a lien on our house and take us to court. I do not recommend them for stamped concrete work.

The guys from Sam the Concrete Man were quick and professional! They did an excellent job at an excellent price. They thought they might be able to knock out this job in one day but the threat of rain forced them to come back the next day. They arrived promptly on time both days and were quick and courteous to deal with.

The process was very positive. Jesse was our contact from start to finish. He was extremely responsive throughout a couple months of texts and changes and was present every day of the job, keeping us updated at every step.

Once the weather cooperated, the job went well. I had a new driveway and patio in 2 days. I'm very pleased , it looks great!

The project for which I contracted Sam the Concrete Man was relatively small. The crew arrived on time and all members of the crew worked well together. They were efficient, professional and patient when asked questions. As previously stated, the project was small, but they were quite precise when working the concrete and did not take shortcuts. I am extremely pleased with the work done and would contract with Sam the Concrete Man again.

Did a good job of removal and poured the concrete well. My only problem with the job is that after over two months later I still have a lot spots on the concrete. It looks like something was poured on it. Unattractive.

The entire experience was wonderful from obtaining an estimate through initiation and coordination of the work, completion and clean-up. Communication was prompt and clear, the work was completed expertly (looks better than new), neatly executed (very little mess for such a messy job) and contractual relationships and payment painlessly done. As if that weren't enough, while doing the job they determined that some additional concrete should be replaced and took the initiative to do this to make sure the job was done properly and did so with no additional charge. This is the kind of experience everyone should have with professional tradesmen.

I WOULD NOT HIRE AGAIN!!! Jesse, the salesman, was great at his job. I received 5 quotes from different companies. Even though Sam was not the lowest, I liked what Jessie had to say concerning other small cracked areas. RED FLAG #1 I called the office to let them know I was going to hire them. No answer...left a voice message. No return call. Waited 2 weeks. Called again . No answer....left a message. A few days later did receive a call saying I was on their work schedule, just didn't know when. Out of the blue no phone call, Jesse shows up looking for a deposit. MY FAULT. I sent in the signed contract but forgot the deposit. It was no big deal except I was having my hardwood floors done right at that moment and unable to get to the checkbook. RED FLAG #2 Couldn't wait and wouldn't wait for the next day when floors dried. Realized i could do something but I was very unhappy about it. GOOD NEWS Men showed up at 8:00 and started working immediately on pad to be replaced as well as cutting out a small area to be replaced as well. GOOD NEWS They took care in not trampling on the flower bed adjoining the work area. READ YOUR CONTRACT CAREFULLY!! Following are detailed word for word from my contract. NOT ONE WAS DONE. RED FLAG#3 "All new concrete will be DOWELED into the existing concrete to prevent settling." RED FLAG #4 " Remove and dispose of the existing concrete up to 5" thick with WIRE MESH REINFORCEMENTS. " RED FLAG #5 " COMPACT the subgrade with a MECHANICAL compactor as REQUIRED." RED FLAG #6 " Install 4" of 4,000-psi concrete reinforced with 3/8 rebar as needed. RED FLAG #7 " Clean up daily and at the job completion." RED FLAG #8 " Work is guaranteed ... and will be completed in a workmanlike manner per industry standard practices. I saw that the concrete truck had arrived and went out to check on the progress. THAT is when I noticed immediately that area was not compacted and leveled and chunks of old concrete were still in the area. That NO wire mesh was installed. THAT NO dowel rods were installed to prevent settling. I brought out my contract and showed to to the men working. By that time concrete was already being layed. One RUDE worker turned to me and said what did I want them to do. Put it back in the barrels , wheel it back to the truck and do it right? YES, that is what I wanted. I then called the office again. RED FLAG # 9. Again no answer. It did direct me to call another number in case of an emergency. I reached the owner. His response was to call the foreman on the job. RED FLAG #10 The foreman and Jesse, who showed up after the job was completed to get the rest of the money, apologized for the man's behavior. HOWEVER, THE RUDE MAN NEVER DID!!! They tried to explain to me that they used fiber concrete and did not need the mesh or rebar. HOW DO I KNOW THAT. I hired this company for what was in my contract. I believe I was charged for items I never received. RED FLAG # 11 The owner has NEVER called back to check up knowing how unhappy I was. Very disappointed in customer service all around for this company. RED FLAG #12 Jesse knew how upset I was. They had also cut my sprinkler line. Yes, the contract says that is my responsibility, but he agreed to fix it. 3 weeks later, I REPAIRED IT MYSELF. RED FLAG #13 I have also been cleaning up large chunks of concrete left behind throughout my flower beds. While most of the concrete looks good, there are well over 300 large silver/gray spots grouped in certain areas throughout. What does this mean? They also knew that i researched Angie's List for all contractors. I asked about an Angie's List discount. None was given, however, I NOW see that a 5% coupon is offered. OVERALL, a very disappointing experience. Not sure what I can do now, except to recommend to others NOT TO HIRE THIS COMPANY!

Had a fairly large concrete job needing done. They were able to remove and install an entire driveway in 2 days during all the rain in early May. Worked out great for me, great job!

This is a Super time efficient company with friendly and hard working people. Jessie was very responsive via text and phone calls for questions and concerns even though my job was small. The crew was very respectful of my property and flowers near the site. I was very impressed with the work performed. My new curved sidewalk is perfect and sealed. We will definitely use them in the future! Thanks for all the hard work guys!

Excellent. Received the estimate in a timely manner, cost was very competitive, and the quality was excellent. All of the employees I interacted with were very knowledgeable, hard working, and friendly. The company that built my mini-barn said that it was the best pad they had seen, square, level, and to the exact measurements that they needed. I would defiantly recommend them for any concrete projects and will use them again. It is hard to find such a great company.

Our project went off without a hitch ! Jesse and his crew conducted themselves in the most professional manner. Clean up was done daily, and our yard was restored to its original condition at the end of the project. I would recommend Sam the Concrete Man to anyone wanting concrete work done.

Very happy with the quality of the work and time it took to be done. Jesse our job leader, gave us all the information on how and what they were going to do. I will hire this company again if I need any more concrete work done. I have referred this company to a couple people I know that are in need of concrete work.

Jesse and his crew were extremely professional in all ways.  A rapid return call was made when I made my initial request for a price quote. Jesse showed up exactly as promised to provide a careful and competitively priced bid on this job. I scheduled the job immediately and in less than a week, he showed up a few minutes early to meet me and take 1/2 of the money per the signed contract. The $5,000 job was complete in three days and the remaining balance was paid.  <br> <br>The work was done very well. High quality forms were constructed, and much of the old sidewalk was used as fill, per standard practice. Very good quality workmanship on the new concrete, which was sealed and the new powder-coated rails installed just as requested (no low-end pot metal "wrought iron" type railing prone to weathering and rust). <br> <br>Jesse indicated that the old concrete was extremely difficult to remove, as the steps were poured solid in 1960, and the old sidewalk was nearly 10 inches thick. He indicated that the contract had a section suggesting that he could charge extra for such difficulties, but chose not to charge me extra.  He and his team were so very thorough and professional, I would recommend them without reservation to anyone for a new set of steps or sidewalk or patio.  Very impressed!  <br> <br>I gave Sam the Concrete Man the highest marks possible in this review, because they really did exceed my expectations.
