2015 Update: Jake with Scatter Creek Construction built my beautiful patio cover in 2013. It looked great but as soon as the rains began it had problems. So early in 2014 after a couple attempts at "make it work" fixes, I told Jake that the cover must be attached. And even though he told me that it could only be built above the roof line, I offered another $500.00 to attach it to the roof. They were back within two weeks and the cover was attached. It still needed flashing but they ran out of daylight and had to come back. That took several calls, emails and texts to get him to come back. It also rained which told me where to stop the rain from coming though. I insisted that the flashing needed to extend at least a good 12" out from the roof line over the cover and create valleys in the inside corners. I insisted that a piece of original flashing that they did not put back on originally or at the second job (which I reminded them to do over and over), be re-attached under the cover (it closed off some open edging to the soffit and was there to prevent bees from getting in). I insisted they caulk (which I pre-purchased several tubes) the sun turf roof material and flashing. I was very direct in what I wanted. I did not want to deal with getting them to come back again if it failed again. I knew what needed to be done and I expected to be respected as the home owner. I am well aware that almost every construction job will have return "fixes". This was no exception. This was all within the 12 month guaranty and I did pay more money. So they finally came back about 8 weeks later to flash. They ran out of daylight again. Jake said they would be back and left behind some equipment as a guaranty. I saw some flashing, but not what I told them I wanted. It was too short and inadequate. I saw caulking, but again not what I told them I wanted. And again when the rains came it leaked. Badly. So, after many calls, texts and emails, and waiting...... and waiting....... and waiting....... I got nothing. I got absolute silence. Oh, yea I did get the "equipment" they left behind as their gesture or "let's pretend to return". I hadn't gone near their stuff the whole time, but after a year of it sitting there, I had enough. Looking at what they left, I clearly got the message that they never intended to come back. A very old sorry-*** pancake compressor, a saws-all that didn't work and a box of rusty nails. It was their garbage. They left me their garbage.
Well, I have since crawled up on my roof (I'm 50+ with a bad back) and re-flashed it the way it should have been. I caulked everything the way I had told them. I made the valleys, etc. Now it does not leak!! It had continued to leak until I made it right. After that not a drop! And even though it was hard for me physically the "fixes" were actually quite easy. It's 2fall of 2015 and still not a peep from Jake. Jake could have very easily did what I asked of him and he would have had a very happy return customer. But he didn't. He chose to skunk me. That is how he chose to finish this job. So Beware. When contractors choose to go down the path of leaving fires behind it will be the customer who ends up getting burned. I no longer recommend Jake and Scatter Creek Construction.

2013 : I had three estimates through Angie's List. Jake with Scatter Creek Construction stood out because he was polite, knowledgable, thorough and detailed with his proposal and the job itself. The other two (one handyman and the other a contractor) were a no-go from the very start. I was completely uncomfortable as a single household female with these other two. I felt like I was either going to be ripped off, stalked - or both, if I had hired either one of them. That said, even if the other two didn't give me the creeps and I was given reasonable quotes (which I did not, the first one never got back to me and the other was so ridiculous, I didn't even finish reading the email with his proposal), I probably would have hired Scatter Creek Construction. Jake took pictures and sent a series of emails that concluded with a set plan with a reasonable cost. The contract was well written. He, with a very good helper, showed up exactly on time and finished the two day project in one day. I was consulted with every detail to be sure it was going to meet my expectations. My patio cover is beautiful! It hasn't rained yet so it is yet to be tested, but I have a 12 month warranty. I was assured that if there was any problem with the construction of the patio, that all I had to do was contact Jake and he would go to whatever length was needed to make it right. This patio cover was not a difficult design, but because it is surrounded on three sides by house with a southern exposure, the roof line was tricky and it had to be built above the roof line to get the pitch. It turned out great. I have future plans to hire Scatter Creek Construction again.
