After getting 3 estimates for work i needed done, i chose Scholz Electric. At the estimate appointment, he noticed that there was water in the electrical panel in the basement. He did a quick temporary fix until he could come back to do the work. Douglas arrived ontime and started work right away. He was very professional and polite. After the work was complete, I had a problem with one of the breakers tripping if I used the cable and washing machine at the same time. I left him a message and he came early the next morning to take care of it. I would highly recommned them and will call Doug again if I need electrical work done again.

It started with free visit and estimate, appt date was set and Douglas Scholz arrived and completed all the electrical work in a timely and professional manner. I am so glad I found this electrician so close to home and all my work is done for a great price . And he gives a senior discount!

Extremely well. Although the generator was installed some time ago by Doug, a new problem arose with the central air conditioning when the electric power went out and the generator needed to run. Doug spoke with the company servicing the generator and the air conditioning to find a solution and fixed the problem. At my request, he communicated long distance with my son (an engineer), to explain what was happening, as I had little knowledge of the problem and solution. Doug spent considerable time and triple checked that the solution was working before he finished. As always, Doug was extremely caring and efficient.

Doug and his assistant Mike were polite and friendly. They are incredibly hard workers. All repairs exceeded out expectations. They found a problem with our water softener power line and fixed it for us at minimal cost. Everything done in one day. We are thrilled!

Doug was very courteous, friendly, and professional. He explained everything clearly. We had some health issues in my family during the time that we were scheduling the work, and Doug was very flexible and accommodating about working around them.
This was our first experience with Angie's List, and it couldn't have gone better. We would gladly hire Doug again in the future and recommend him to others.
He's a thief. He tried to bill me $400 and change when he took 5 hours to do a 2 hour job. I didn't appreciate him.
Response from Scholz Electric
"This customer had purchased a two hour deal. It is basically a 10% discount for 2 hours of work. She told me that she wanted a heater that she would provide installed in her garage for her dogs. She gave me the specs for the heater via email. I brought all the material needed for the job, she had defined on that Tuesday morning (11/18/14). When I got there the heater was not the one she described. It was larger and demanded more power. I was not able to do the job that day because of new material requirements. Her home is roughly 30 minutes one way. So on day one before anything was done we were down an hour. When you consider the follow up trip the pre-purchased time was consumed. When I showed up to do the job on Saturday (11/22/14) she asked that a second dedicated outlet be installed as she may want to have a second heater in the future. I provided two 30amp 240volt outlets on dedicated circuits to her garage and hung the heater provided. I saw that she had extension cords in the area the dogs were located in. I myself have two dogs and didn't like the situation as I love my dogs. I didn't want to see one of her dogs get electrocuted chewing on one of the cords. I offered to install a new 20amp 110volt outlet on a new dedicated GFCI protected circuit. All I asked was that she absorb the material cost. I would provide the labor at no additional cost. She readily agreed. The labor for both heater dedicated lines took me 3.5 hours. Even though it was a Saturday I only charged her my regular weekday rates. She was invoiced for the amount over the pre-purchased amount and the material used. I sent out that invoice on 11/23/14. On 1/5/15 I used the Angie's List message service to try and see why I had yet to receive her payment. A few days later I sent a message using regular email. After that I tried calling her on the phone numbers provided. I left several messages on multiply media formats. She never once reached out to me to state her position. If she felt like my number wasn't fair she had several opportunities to discuss it with me. At this date she still owes me $415.40. I do my level best to do the best job I can at the best price I can. I find her review disingenuous. She knew going in that she wasn't going to pay me. She asked for extra work and then felt she wouldn't have to pay more. If nothing else she knew there would be a material charge for the outlet I did for no labor cost. She said she would pay for the material. She provided a "B" for the quality of my work though. If you go through my reviews you see a pattern of my worth. This person just has issues and knew going in she was going to do a hit job on me. Frankly I hope she treats her dogs better as they are adorable basset hounds!"

I contracted with Doug Scholz to replace very outdated switches and ungrounded outlets throughout my apartment. I also asked him to install low voltage boxes and drill holes into the top plates in the walls so I can install ethernet wiring.
On the day of the service, Doug arrived with his colleague Mike and they got to work right away. I had placed the hardware I wanted at each of the outlets and switches. My apartment has old wiring, and they had to troubleshoot a few times. In all, there were roughly 15 outlets replaced (2 prong to 3 prong), 4 dimmer switches installed, and a GFI switch combo installed in the bathroom. Doug also installed 3-way switches for the top and bottom of my stairs. He created access points for me to install ethernet wiring for the apartment at later date. Lastly, he updated my breaker box to remove a double-tap on a breaker switch. Now I have one switch for every circuit.
Doug is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He had a lot of suggestions and advice. He let me watch and ask tons of questions. Doug knows his stuff! Like I said, the place I have is old, and just by looking at a few outlet boxes and looking into the wall, he could tell the construction history and what some of the more esoteric hardware was.
I will hire Doug again! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone else looking for an electrician.
Response from Scholz Electric
"I do not understand that. I text them on Thursday 9/10/15 at 2:13pm. In the text I provided the costs and break down of that costs. I sent it to the (914) 307-xxxx number. It occurred to me that they might not have texting set up so I then called on the next day, Friday 9/11/15 at 8:33am. Leaving a voicemail, again listing all the details and costs. I also requested that they call me to let me know if they wanted to move forward. I was holding Tuesday the 22nd for them. All I ask was that they let me know by that night so if they didn't want to move forward I could schedule something else. This is the first response I have received since trying to communicate with them. I am sure there has been a breakdown some how. They were very nice people, motivated and informed. They seemed to be an ideal customer. Actually I am disappointed things went this way as they are young and I am sure they would have used me over the years."

He arrived with assistant on time and was pleasant and professional; I asked about his experience (years)

and he gave me details of local work. Comfortable to work with and helpful in suggestions about type of spotlight to use as to length of life/replacement. Left me with a sense of confidence and I definitely will recommend his company gladly.
