SEDARIS HARDWOOD FLOORS

After reading the positive reviews and recommendations from 3 different people we hired Paul to refinish our floors. Nothing about this job has been done well. Paul has not responded to phone calls and texts. Finally 3 weeks later he came to discuss the very obvious and grid mistakes his crew made. The entire time he was here he made it seem like it would be so hard to fix and didn’t want to do the job. Despite repeatedly asking him face to face when he could fix the issues he refused to commit. Examples of his mistakes were replacing 2 boards in our kitchen with pieces that were 2-3 feet long. EVERY other teak board in that area is 12 inches long. The replaced boards stand out like a sore thumb. In other areas the replaced boards do not match the stain used earlier. We have swirl marks in our floor from either improper sanding or not sanding correctly. If you have lots of time and don’t care about the quality of the work hire Paul. If you want the job done right the first time , look elsewhere.

Paul had his team come out and install pre-finished 3/4 hickory flooring in our kitchen, dining room and living room. They had to weave in the new flooring into an existing floor AND completely go around a set of stairs and meet back in the kitchen. Not only is the weaving in to the existing floor not noticeable, the blending of the 2 rooms at the stairs was perfect. If you have hardwood flooring to install, don't do it yourself, hire Paul and get a perfect job in just a few days.

Fine but got very messy where they took floor down to bare wood. Final coats there were not a 100% match with existing floor.

I've been in my home for around 9 years. I recently discovered what had apparently been a small but long term leak around a toilet flange in a 1/2 bath. The repair would require the subfloor to be replaced which in turn meant tearing out and replacing the hardwood. It was a small section of flooring - approx 6.5 x 3 ft. The first contractor who looked at it went on and on about how 'It will never match. You won't be happy. We need to do the whole bathroom area.' and proceeded to quote me quite an expensive price when I insisted that I was willing to accept some differential in finish tone to reduce the area being torn out and replaced. I decided to get Paul to look at it and provide a quote. He came out quickly after being contacted, and was very confident that his crew could do the work with minimal difference in finished floor tone. To top things off, his price was very attractive, so I decided to engage his company for the work. This company uses different crews for the tear out/flooring work; flooring finish work; and molding re-installation work. This didn't cause a problem necessarily, but it probably did result in an extra trip or two. Still, I can see the benefit of having specialization in crews if you have multiple projects going on across the Triangle area. Overall, the work went well. The crews were polite, and kept the work area in reasonable shape following completion of work after each visit. The best news is that the finished product matches MUCH better than I ever expected! There were some natural 'break lines' in the bath area, even though it was small, and this aspect, coupled with the existing lighting makes the new floor virtually indistinguishable from the old. Paul was fairly easy to communicate with during the work. This was a very small job, so I tried to minimize contact with him as well. I would definitely hire his company again for other jobs and I am actually just very pleased that I was able to get such a good work result for a small job at an extremely reasonable price! Note that the price quoted was for the flooring work only and did not include any painting or touch up for molding, nor did it include toilet remove/reset.

Went well except one of the boards used had poor grain quality; this could have been avoided as there was boards left over.

They do a good job for a good price.

It went well. His team was on time and did a good job. They returned with a few small fixes.

They've been fine. They came out and talked with us. We haven't actually called to settle, but we've actually had them do other work for us. They've done an excellent job on the work that they've done for us. we're not just ready to have them do the other job. That has been a couple of years ago, they actually re-did our step. They've done an excellent job. We called them to talk about redoing some floors, but we're not just ready to do that yet. With the holidays and everything, we haven't gotten back to them. They did a great job. So I would give them a five if that's the highest because they did a great job.

<p>These guys work hard!  They gave a good quote and they kept to it, they were generally easy to reach and responsive, and the finished product looks great.  I visited several times without giving notice and I always found them working efficiently and well.  Their workmanship is absolutely first-rate, the color is precisely what I had hoped for, and it looks fantastic.  I've already recommended Sedaris to several of my neighbors.</p>

Paul Sedaris was a pleasure to work with as were his subcontractors.  All were very conscientious and experienced, even the people who moved our furniture during the refinishing.   <br />

I have two extra boxes of leftover wood and they put in some pieces of wood that they should have probably put aside. So, I am not outrageously happy with them at all. The service was average. It was accomplished, but I think it could have been better done. There were plenty of extra wood and they could have gone and grabbed some pieces. They put some pieces down that had some edges broken on them and some bad knots in the wood. There were easier ways they could have made it look like a better job plus the floors creak like crazy and I do not know what that is about. The cost was almost $3,000 because we have over 800 square feet of flooring. For price, he was pretty much standard. So, he was pretty much on the mark. It was competitive. His responsiveness was good. He was prompt. I would not use them again in the future. I will call somebody else. I had one other guy and he was higher priced. I did call him back and told him to do a remeasure. I have a low spot and he was going to fill that in before he put the flooring. Sedaris just put the wood in there and you can feel and see the dip. Frankly, they just could not be bothered to do it as professionally as they should have.

Fantastic.  The hardwood floors and cork floors are absolutely beautiful.  Paul's team are professional, creative, friendly, and hardworking gentlemen.  They cleaned up each day.  We weren't living in the house yet, but they were careful nonetheless. <br />

Paul said it would take a week to complete the project. He was right on the money. Everything was done beautifully. Every board fits tightly and floor was sanded and sealed. I couldn't have asked for anything else to be done. I was very pleased with the finished project. <br />

They did a great job. I like the work they did. The work is holding up okay. The pricing is similar to other companies.

It was wonderful. They were fantastic. They were here when they said they would be. They were quiet and there was no loud talking or music when they were working. They cleaned up the two days they were here. I don't have enough good things to say about them. They were wonderful. I have plans next year to refinish the floors that were already here and I am definitely calling then first.
