When I called for service I was told they couldn't estimate what it would cost to check out my problem and there would be a $79 service charge that could not be applied against any other work. I was surprised when the technician arrived with a detailed list of the charges for doing the inspection that started at about $500. I signed off on them doing the inspection for that amount and then they came back with a proposal that ran between $8K and $30K but didn't address fixing the main problem which they said was probably Dakota Electric's responsibility. They did call Dakota Electric and tell them about the issue, but were non-committal on whether they would follow through with the utility after Dakota Electric came out to look at the problem. I should have shown them the door when they brought out the $500 inspection fee on a chart that they apparently couldn't share before they arrived. This company use sales tactics that leave a bad taste in my mouth. If I knew how expensive it was for them to even check out the problem I would have shopped around instead of relying on a friend's recommendation. If you are considering using their services, get them to at least send you their rate card that lists the prices. If they tell you over the phone that they don't have such a document they are lying. If they say they can't share it, hang up and call someone else. Six months later I had another electrician in for a second opinion. This electrician has done work for us before and is reliable and trusted. He said the current coming from Dakota Electric was a little hot (241 vs 220-230) but nothing to worry about. He said the lights flickering was also nothing to worry about. A sharp contrast to the dire circumstances that Service Today described. Our electrician said to replace the circuit breaker box was about $3,500, much less than the $8K Service today wanted.

Called another company originally they asked how old the furnace is and I said about 5 yrs. old (it is 6 yrs old). They informed me that I should get a hold of the company that put it in because it should still be under warranty, which after I looked it was. So I called Service Today to set up an appt. to have them look at it. Andrew came out and with various questions asked I said that the thermostat we have is wifi and that is how we run it. Comcast upgraded the wifi in the neighborhood the day before and it was today I woke up and noticed that the thermostat wifi was not connected to the wifi anymore. He looked into it and noticed that when I put it on heat via by phone app or manually by the wall thermostat, it was turning on the A/C instead and visa versa. He came at a price to me of about $350 to run a diagnostic to find the issue. He did and then he comes back and tells me that the thermostat itself is burn out (I bought the thermostat from them when I had the new furnace installed 6 yrs. ago). Andrew goes to his van and of course comes with only 2 thermostats that he has on hand. One is not wifi and it was $350 or so and the other was $800 which was wifi programmable. He did say we could just go and get one from Best Buy or something but we would have to install it. We decided on the lower cost of the 2. As he was installing it I looked up the retail cost for the same exact one he was putting in (Honeywell T4Pro) and it was $75 at Best Buy. I mean really.........that much of a mark up in cost!!! It is like this company does not understand that we are in a pandemic and that money for so many people is really really tight!! To gouge customers like that. As I sat in my office crying about the cost I let myself get washed into, after a while I asked Andrew why such a big cost increase on the thermostat. He said he has nothing to do with the pricing of items, which I understood. Andrew was a nice guy and just doing his job. I put this gouging at the feet of the company because right now, people have to decide to either pay a heating/electric/etc. bill or pay a company a massive cost to have a thermostat put in. Andrew did take down some wires that were for a humidifier that was on the old furnace prior to installing the new one and also cleaned some dust and lint from the furnace. Will I call these guys again, only if I know that there is something wrong with the furnace that is under warranty still, other then that, I cannot afford them. They were better when they were Airtech. The C rating I gave it has more to do with how nice Andrew was then the company. For the company itself, I give it an F

I had Service Today! complete two separate projects for me. First, I had an ice dam fall on my A/C condenser last winter and needed repair/replacement for an insurance claim. Second, I replaced my old water heater and boiler with a new combined tankless boiler & water heater unit. This involved complete repiping in the basement since I was also moving the mechanicals as part of a basement renovation. It was a large and complicated project, and ServiceToday! was awesome. Shout outs to Blake, Randy, Dave, Marc, Willy, and the rest who were part of the project. Like I said, it was pretty complicated and their team was always professional, friendly, courteous, and took pride in their work. I also love that they are diligent about calling 20-30 minutes before arrival so I don't have to sit at home waiting during a 2-hour window like I've frequently done with other service providers. Also, the latter project was an expensive one ($20k+) but their pricing was competitive and fair, and they have great financing options available. Would 100% use them again.

Even though I have read some negative comments about their plumbing's prices, I wanted to give them a chance as I had a fairly good experience on the HVAC side. Unfortunately, I am afraid the comments were right! I called them for a leak in my basement related to a water drain from the second floor bathrooms. Before starting, Matt explain to me he had to go through a "pluming diagnostics" of the entire house and systems that is a flat fee of $497 (based on the age of the house) for: Unlimited Time to find the problem, One level 1 to 2 repair included with diagnostic, performance check, whole home water quality analysis, including chlorine, water hardness, and total dissolved solids, confirmation that system is safe, reliable, and energy efficient, Applies to equipment 6-20+ years old, main drain, water pressure/water temperature over 1500 sqft, tankless water heater. Basically a fee to "find the leak" and anything else that could be wrong in my house in order to give me suggestions for additional repairs that go on top of the "diagnostic fee", unless it is a level 1 or 2 repair that you probably never have anyway...! I my case Matt's listed 3 options: - $4.193 (repair copper drain, new washing machine hoses, install pressure valve and new 50 Gal water heater) - $1.467 (repair copper drain, new washing machine hoses, install pressure valve). Meaning $2.726 for the water heater alone. Or $631 (repair copper drain, new washing machine hoses). Meaning $836 for the pressure valve alone! I told him I could do the machine hoses myself and asked him how much it would be just to fix the leak => $364. That means the charge to change 2 $10 hoses is $267!! By the way, they don't deduct the $79 service call if you are not part of the Membership Program, charge an additional $14 for "Transfer Fuel Surcharge" and didn't discount the $50 coupon. Bottom line my invoice was $497 + $79 + $14 + $364 = $954. Fortunately, I talked to Kristy from Customer Service the following day and got the $50 coupon applied and got an additional $50 off after my open and direct discussion with her. Thank you Kristy. Still, I believe the all process was a bit complicated for a leak and would have to try a different plumber next time. Further more, what's going on with the "Plumbing Diagnostic" fee if they have to come again later on during the year for another issue? I surely wouldn't need another "check" of my entire house...

Who would pay 15,000.00 for adding 2 outlets, and fixing a sconce? I was told I needed to redo all my electrical, which felt like a scare tactic. Glad my previous work done was inspected and done by qualified electricians. I should have know, never pay for an estimate—FYI I was told I would receive an Angies List price savings/reduction, nope. Would never recommend.

$79
I was charged $79 to get an estimate to hook up a hot tub. The person who arrived was from Service Today! But, he drove a Boy’s Electric truck. The brand is confusing. I live in a new home and the electrician was more of a sales person than an electrician. He was asking when was the last time I had a full electrical inspection (new home?), the last time we had a power surge, power outage, etc. He then wanted to go in the house to do a full electrical inspection. Note: he was only here for an estimate to run electrical for a hot tub from a panel in a garage to the back of the house. He also tried selling a club membership for $16\month which I was told was the only way to get their best pricing for my job. His estimate was 4 times (yes four times!!) more than the electrician I ended up selecting (an Angie’s list A rated electrician). I still had to pay the $79 trip charge for the refused and ridiculous estimate. He wouldn’t even break the estimate down for us. Avoid this business!!!!! $189
We called on the 4th of July because of a leak under a bathroom sink. We were willing to pay the $189 holiday trip charge to avoid having the leak for a long weekend. The plumber did not try to repair the leak. He took one look and said the faucet needed to be replaced. He could not get the parts then or even a week later. He estimated that the repair would cost $760 plus parts. In fact, a new faucet was not needed. I called another plumber. He tightened two nuts that had worked loose. This solved the problem for a fraction of the price quoted by Service Today for a replacement that wasn't needed. When I called Service Today to request a refund or at least an adjustment because this should have been a relatively inexpensive repair that could could have been completed, the company refused. The said that the $189 trip charge was legitimate because it is simply the charge to send someone out to our house and not to fix it. They justified their position by claiming that tightening two loose nuts was not a "permanent" repair. They advertise "emergency service" - "Service Today Without Delay" - That's a joke, not a jingle. Service Today's plumber misdiagnosed the problem, never tried to fix it, and instead suggested an unnecessary expensive faucet replacement. I paid Service Today for emergency service that they could have easily provided by tightening two loose nuts. Obviously, tightening two nuts that had worked loose is not a temporary repair. Apparently, they do not have a legitimate customer service department that tries to make things right for the customer when things do not work out the way they should. This is not a good company with which to do business.

Called this company to come out and look at my a/c. I didn't think it was running properly. They called like they said but after that, it went all downhill from there.. The tech came out and within 30 mins told me that it was going to get expensive. Went from having one company tell me i just need a cleaning to these guys telling me either it would be around $800 or a new system for around $2000. Just wish these guys still had some honesty and integrity to them. PLEASE do not use this company. I remember hearing the tech on the phone and said he was trying to sell me like they talked about in their meeting.. Overall, avoid like the black plague!

I had a brand new Daikin $11,000+ furnace and central A/C installed two years ago by Boys AirTech. At that time, I was given a 12 year parts and labor warranty at the time of sale. Service Today bought Boys AirTech shortly after my purchase. My new furnace failed two years later. They first said they weren't sure if I was covered by warranty. After I produced all the paperwork, they covered the installation of a new inducer. Then they showed me an area in the furnace that was rusting. They told me the condensation needed to be diverted (to prevent further damage) and said they could install a "rain gutter" PVC pipe to divert the condensation that was corroding the interior of the furnace. They said the rain gutter was not covered by the warranty-- nor would they take any responsibility for the fact that the company they purchased did not originally install one. They said that I could get a discounted price on the repair if I paid more money to join the "Comfort Club," which I eventually did to save on the installation of the rain gutter. Fast-forward four months and my new A/C failed-- having lost all it's refrigerant. Service Today refused to cover any work related to the leak (though they reduced the $1100 bill by 5% after I complained to the customer service representative). I called another HVAC company to look at it, and the technician said that the leak was small and probably was there from the beginning. In speaking with the Service Today technician and eventually their customer service representative, I was repeatedly told that Service Today only bought the "customer list" and wasn't responsible for any work done previously-- even though the company acquired all the equipment, office and warehouse space, and employees from Boys AirTech. In short, it has turned out to be nothing but a big bait and switch. They won't stand by the work that was done by employees that they acquired. When there is a problem, they say they aren't sure if anything is covered by warranty-- and then charge a hefty "diagnosis" fee. All they want to do is sell maintenance programs-- and discount programs- after you pay that diagnosis fee. I have never had an experience with a company like this. I am incredibly disappointed.

We had an appointment that was missed - called on a Friday - was given a Monday appt and didn't show. Arrived Tuesday and said they thought issue with Acoil but would need $331 to perform a diagnostic. Due to previous issues with the company we scheduled another contractor to review before committing to the work. The line set was completed by Service Today previously and we have had nothing but trouble and loss of refrigerant since. The other contractor was at our house for 10 minutes and diagnosed 2 bad/faulty welds in the line set that Service Today installed and now will not warranty the work. Instead they wanted to have us spend over $300 to diagnose an issue their company created. I would not recommend them for any heating or AC work. Techs are pleasant but might not be experienced and customer service has not been willing to help. Also per the inspection we had the line was not installed to code and secured every 6 inches as required.

We are very sorry to hear that it has left us on the wrong foot, but we stand by our technicians and service that we provide. We hope that our Customer Relations Managers that you are working with now can further assist you with any questions or concerns. -Service Today!"

This company has treated me well, especially Mike Museus, who worked over a year (last summer and this spring) to find out why there was a fluid leak in my new AC unit. The leak didn't affect the cooling of my home so I wasn't concerned, but Mike was persistent, even to returning finally with an "expert" to help diagnose the problem. What they found was that the A-coil above the furnace was full of tiny pinholes. On the day this was to be replaced, Steve came before 9 a.m. to remove the defective A-Coil and install the new one. He worked on it all day, without lunch or a break, leaving shortly after 5 p.m. There was no charge, as it was still under warranty. With all that, he still took the time to explain to me why the replacement was so important: that the defective A-Coil could eventually leak enough to damage the furnace below it. Because he was using solder, I believe, to install the new part, he turned on the ceiling fan in the adjacent room to mitigate the fumes. My only complaint is that a few of my vinyl floor tiles were damaged/discolored by the soldering process. That part of the flooring has had water damage before and is missing a few tiles so, after a day of hard work, he may have attributed the damage to work done before. It's not a big deal; I just wish he'd have said something. I have to hand it to Steve, though; he was working by himself, which frequently required him to leave the furnace area to check the outdoor AC unit, then rush back to the indoor work. I think it might have been a two-person job. At least, an assistant could have facilitated some of the work done.

Went perfectly. Jake explained what he was doing and tested many things that we hadn’t had done before on our boiler. Gave me good recommendations on how to extend the life of my boiler. Even went above and beyond and caught a few things that I wouldn’t have noticed which will most likely save me money. Highly reccomended.

Three hours labor $4500 pull out, put in virtually the same machine, and crisscrossed pcv valves. - waiting to see the cc bill, supposed to get the $44 'tune up' fee dropped, if I purchased a new furnace (forgot to ASK for it during sales pitch), figured Brandon would confirm with Blake, the sales guy. Furnace works fine. Super organized system.
