After a couple of weeks, I noticed that the surface of the concrete was chipping and that water was pooling against the house in several places due to improper grading, the exact problem which I had hired him to correct in the first place. I called Mr. Evans back to the house and showed him the problem areas. He agreed to replace the faulty work in a couple of weeks after he finish his current jobs. This was the first week in February.

So I would call him every 1-2 weeks to see why the work had not been done, each time receiving a different excuse and promise of another 1-2 weeks. After a couple of months of excuses, Mr. Evans stopped returning my calls in mid-April 2011. After a month of stonewalling, I contacted my lawyer in mid-May and notified Mr. Evans that I would take him to court if the work or a refund was not done. Mr. Evans called me back and said that a crew would be out on Wednesday June 8, 2011 at 8 A.M. to begin work. They showed up in the afternoon on Thursday June 9 with jackhammers to remove the improper work. When I came home Thursday, the work of breaking up the existing work was half done with the driveway reduced to partially rubble but none of it removed. It is completely unusable in its current state.

It has been over 2 weeks since they destroyed my driveway and now they are not returning my calls again. At this point, I am out the money, 6 months of stress & holdup to my other home repairs, have no driveway. Water is not draining at all rather it goes right through the holes and spaces they jacked in the driveway right to the foundation, exactly what I was trying to avoid when I hired them.

It is now July 22. Since they started jacking up the driveway on June 9, they have done very little work each week with the usual series of lies. My driveway is now piled up on the street (against central garden policy). I have since found that he simply put drains into the concrete, but did not hook them into the drainage system by any pipes or anything. They were simply cosmetic, cheap, plastic drains allowing later into the concrete but not draining at all. When I asked Evans to explain the incredibly poor workmanship, he explained that he had sent his men to do the work unsupervised and with no review before pur concrete so it was not his fault. My foundation has been damaged by 6 weeks of water running through the former driveway area and now my basement is flooding when it rains. I informed Evans today of the flooding, and he said as usual that they would pour the concrete "sometime next week". In addition, the working drainage system that had been servicing the rest of the house which he was simply supposed to hook into has been clogged and blocked by all the concrete debris they allowed into the drainage pipes, which will cost me more to have snaked out!

Overall, it has been an incredibly aweful experience. I have been unable to finish repairing my home due to the unknown cost of resolving this situation. It has been a constant headache trying to get this done and coming home over and over to not find work being done on dates that were promised. Now my home has literally been damaged by his neglect. BEWARE!

He provided an on site estimate the same day I called. His crew arrived on time on the scheduled day and the job was completed in three days as agreed. My yard and the neighbors yard were cleaned up after the forms were stripped. There were no cost overruns. I plan to use him again to construct a patio this spring.

Gave me a written estimate, pulled permits, people arrived early and worked hard. They were very nice and professional, even spent time talking to my sons as we watched the pour. Did a really super job framing it out - spent extra time to make 8 x8 frames with the hopes the cement will not crack. Absolutely beautiful results.

When I arrived home from work, the existing driveway had been removed. A new section had been poured. The next section did not have the proper prep work performed. I had them prepare the ground properly on this section. I was told that the section that was already poured had been prepared properly. The third cement truck load was late in arriving by several hours. As a result, that section did not match (color) the shade of the previous two sections. The finish we had agreed upon was a washed limestone with a red sand finish. The third load was a lot lighter than the previous two loads. Mr. Evans said that the shades of the two pours would match in a couple of years. A representative from Sardis Ready Mix (the concrete company) was called out and offered to replace that load of concrete at no cost. However, Mr. Evans was reluctant to tear out what he had just poured and replace it. In the end he did so. Some of the lines seperating the sections are not straight and the finish has a few low spots & rough spots. Also, dirt from the prep work was piled in the yard, killing the grass and clogging a rain water run off drain. The concrete from the section he replaced was piled in the yard destroying plants and grass. We now have hired a lanscaper to come repair our yard.

I called for a quote. Mr. Evans took the dimensions over the phone. I called the next day and received a quote by return call with a date set for three days later--a Saturday. With so many rainy days I was delighted that I could get the work done quickly. The crew arrived on Saturday. The dirt was cleared by shoveling and since there was so little, it was transferred to a border area with bushes. The concrete arrived and was poured by hand. After most of the work was completed one member of the crew remained to wait for the right times to smooth and finish the surface. A neighbor's dog decided to autograph the concrete with his paw prints--TWICE! The finisher was unfazed. He advised me to wash the paws to remove the concrete and removed any hint of the paw prints. I was extremely satisfied.

Mr. Evans showed up promptly when scheduled to give us an estimate. We were surprised when he came in considerably lower than the other two estimates, so asked lots of questions to make certain we were all on the same page! He answered all questions and provided a detailed contract. He and his crew showed up for the work the first day the weather allowed. In one day, they tore out the old sidewalk, part of the driveway, and worked with us to set the forms so that we got the design for the new turnaround area and sidewalk. The next day they finished the tear-out and the rest of the forms. The crew showed up Saturday morning to pour the new concrete and worked all day, well into the evening to get the concrete poured, washed to expose the aggregate, and the inlet from the street poured and scored to match an existing concrete entry at the gate to our backyard. As promised, they came back on Monday to finish cleaning up the worksite, as it had been too late and dark to finish that on Saturday. We have a beautiful new driveway, scored cobblestone inlet from the street, turnaround area and sidewalk, and are completely delighted not only with the product, but also with our experience with this contractor. We have told all our friends and will recommend this company again and again! For once, we feel like we got our money's worth, plus some!

I needed a slab on which to set a steel storage shed. After checking and joining Angie's List, I called S Evans Construction Company (on a Saturday) and my callback information was taken by a courteous receptionist. Mr. Evans called me back Mon morning and we set an appointment for a bid on Tues. The crew showed up on Wed afternoon and completed the excavation. Crew (and cement truck) showed up on Thur morning, and the job was complete by 1pm. Mr. Evans (and crew) in all cases showed up promptly, and went right to work. The work was most satisfactory, and this was a pleasant encounter.

I was really amazed at how clean the area was where they had been working as you could not even tell they had been doing work there. I have hired him to do other jobs for me in the past and I am always very pleased with his work.
