The job started out fine. The retaining wall was repaired, the decking was removed and hauled away with other debris and the rotted deck bands were replaced. Additional rotted wood was discovered and fixed. But it felt like every day they left I was either fixing something, cleaning up after them or both. Here is a list of what I dealt with: 1. They busted 8” off the edge of one of my recently installed back steps when they tossed old deck boards down. Four other steps have small chunks taken out of them as well. 2. It took them 2 attempts to properly secure 2 new fence posts and a 3rd attempt to secure another one. There were only 7 total. 3. I asked them 3 times to remove old rusty metal bands that were sticking out from a concrete corner post they removed. I had to take care of that myself. 4. They forgot their caulk gun twice, leaving the gaps between the siding and a newly installed corner board exposed to heavy rains for 2 days. 5. They had to borrow my tools and paint brushes and left my ratchet/socket in the rain. 6. They installed siding too low by the patio door and I couldn’t install the decking. I had to remove those 2 boards and reinstall them correctly before I could proceed. 7. They dented my new downspout by the patio door in 5 places and got paint on it. 8. They didn’t replace a section of flashing on the deck that I paid for. I had to replace it myself. 9. They damaged a roof shingle above the front stoop with a ladder. It looks horrible and I can’t be certain it won’t leak. Now I have to get my roofer back to look at that. Wonder what that’ll cost me? 10. They damaged a corner board when siding was removed and just smeared a bunch of caulk on it. Didn't bother to mention it either. 11. They installed a piece of siding that is only 2” wide. Who does that? 12. I had to clean paint drips from my driveway after they painted the soffit the first time. Drop cloths were not used. 13. After they painted the soffit the 2nd time, there are now paint drips on my wood stoop. Again, no drop cloths were used. 14. I picked up at least 2 dozen nails and many wood splinters, some very large, from the side of the house where siding was replaced. There are probably other nails that I can’t find which could be projectiles when mowing. I also cleaned up plenty of debris from the front deck and driveway including cigarette butts. For such a large project, I expected a few wrinkles. But this laundry list shows a lack of respect for my property. I honestly wasn't going to leave a review, it's not my style. But I was pushed too far at the end of the project. Shane texted me that they were done and he wanted paid. I was still 2 hours out and said I would pay him when I got home to review the work. He insisted, rather rudely, that I pay him immediately via PayPal. I still waited until I got home, but it was raining so bad that I couldn't look at the siding and I paid him anyway. I should have stuck to my guns. They did not replace some of the cedar siding we agreed on. I can do a lot of work myself, including replacing siding, but I wanted them to replace siding higher up that was unsafe for me. They replaced many lower boards, ran out of siding and didn't replace what I really needed to be fixed. I emailed him and heard nothing for a week. When I texted him about this I asked if he was a man of his word. He got belligerent and said I was speaking to him like a child. That was not the case at all. Then he said he wouldn't do any more siding replacement unless I purchased the materials myself. I refuse to play that game and will figure out a way to replace those boards. He simply would not own up to the fact that I did not get what I paid for. I would not recommend this contractor. Updated 8/19/19: I left a scathing, but deserved, review for this company last month. His only response to my complaints were that I had a bad attitude, because he was belligerent and not doing as contracted, and what he termed a "miscommunication" regarding the siding. To be clear, there was not any miscommunication. He didn't do as we had discussed at least 3 times, then wanted me to buy materials to come back and finish what he was supposed to do the first time. But I'm not here to rehash those complaints. I'm here to add to my previous review because I recently discovered other disturbing aspects of their service that homeowners should be aware of. Some of the tasks I hired them to do were to repair some siding and a fascia board at the top of the house. They apparently scraped off quite a bit of old paint, because afterwards I've been picking up pieces of scraped off paint that came out of the downspout onto my driveway every time it rained. After 6-7 rainfalls I got tired of cleaning this up, so I went onto the roof on 8/16/19 to address this issue at the source. What I found was appalling. (I have attached pictures.) The first thing I noticed were paint and caulk drips on quite a few shingles. Very sloppy work. I'm not surprised because they dripped paint on my deck and driveway as well. But along with more pieces of scraped off paint, which is what I was expecting, I also found: chunks of wood, pieces of siding, old strips of caulk, and the most troubling was 55 nails and screws that were left all over the roof in the areas where they were working. Some of which had found their way into the gutter. This debris is 100% from them. Nobody else has been up there since and it certainly was not in this condition prior to their arrival. I also found that the one and only corner board they replaced had not been properly caulked. They managed to caulk some of it but somehow did not caulk by the 3 lowest siding boards but instead left the old caulk in place. For them to think it is simply okay to leave someone's property in this condition shows their complete lack of respect for the customer and their home. Think twice before calling this company.
