I had multiple people come over to give me quotes for a built in bookshelf unit which would end up being 10 ft tall by 12 feet wide with a ladder, I had an idea of what I wanted done. Andy was able to do what I wanted and gave me ideas of how to improve it. Everything that I wanted done he said could be done. The other providers either said it couldn't be done or altered the plans due to construction needs which were not necessary. He was also the only one willing to stain the shelves prior to install where everyone else would build and install them but said I had to hire another company to stain them. He took the measurements, drew up plans for me to approve, built the unit at his workshop, and then picked a day to install. He came with one assistant and worked through the day to install it. The final project was well beyond my expectations. He interacted great with my children and even allowed my 3 year old son to safely feel like he was assisting in part of the project (putting in the shelf pins). He was not the cheapest bid but did work with me on the price as I was hiring him in the winter time when he wasn't as busy. I did take photos but they wouldn't load for some reason. He also left me a drill bit for the shelf pin holes incase I wanted to arrange the shelves differently than the standard set up. The shelving unit is rock solid and able to hold multiple grown men climbing on it while fully loaded with hundreds of books. I would happily use him again for a custom carpentry project.
I found Andy on Angies List and contacted him to build cabinetry in our family room. He was very prompt in responding and came to the house to give us an estimate within a very short timeframe. He was very professional and gave many good suggestions for our project. I am pretty picky about service providers and who we allow in our home -- I had no concerns with Andy. He came back to do detailed measurements after we confirmed the design--he is very detailed and wanted to make sure everything was exactly how we wanted it. The deconstruction of the current shelves and installation of the new took one day. He brought a colleague to assist him who was also very professional. They worked non-stop...I couldn't even get them to take a break! And they were extremely careful with their equipment...everything was kept very clean and they were so careful to not scratch our hardwood floors. I would highly recommend Andy to others.
Perfect! Andy is a total pro from start to finish. He promptly returned phone call, came out and discussed work, took measurements, and talked to me at length about what I wanted. NOT how he thought it should be, or what he wanted to do (C'mon, you know you've dealt with THOSE contractors!), but what I wanted! He looked at all the pictures I'd pulled and asked questions, offered suggestions when I wasn't sure. Quote was offered via email, date set for install soon after. Bookshelves were mostly built in his own workshop, then brought to my home for install. They completed installation in a day and a half. Finished product is SPECTACULAR! Even better than I imagined.
I can't say enough good about this company. They were prompt, efficient, friendly and competent; things that are nearly impossible to find anymore. A+++

Andy is a joy to work with. He's a very skillful carpenter.
It's a joy to be able to have complete access to the shelves in pantry -- no more trying to force the doors open.
In the past Andy has installed crown molding in my dining room (to match molding in living room); has installed beadboard in the eat-in kitchen area, and other miscellaneous projects -- all perfectly done.
Andy showed up as scheduled and assessed what needed to be done to lower the oven. He and his partner removed the oven from the opening and did an initial modification to lower the oven. Once all of the bracing was in place, they reinstalled the oven and we checked to see if that resolved the problem. We determined that the oven was still too high, so they removed the oven again and further modified the cabinet by removing one drawer. They modifed the bracing, reinstalled the oven, and we determined that this solved the problem. That left us with a large opening above the oven which Andy determine could be filled by moving the drawer up into that opening. Once the drawer was in place, Andy was able to determine what needed to be done to make a new drawer front that would cover the opening. The drawer front he made perfectly matched the style of the existing drawer fronts as well as the stain color. We are very happy with the work and could not believe how everything matched when the installation was complete. We would highly recommend Andy for any cabinetry or carpentry projects.
He was always on time, he and his helper were always professional. We have to young dogs, and he worked around them. He also worked around my hectic schedule. The crown molding in the dining room was a little tricky due to the walls having archways, and radii. He custom made the pieces, and they look great.
Andy came out and gave us a free estimate and discussed what the possibilities were for fitting the cabinet where we wanted it. On the day of installation Andy and his assistant showed up at the discussed time and went straight to work. They brought in moving blankets to protect our hardwood floors and cleaned up completely when they were done. I was nervous about adjusting the fireplace mantel but when they were done you would never know we had any work done at all. They were able to fit the piece in so it looked like it has always been there. It was not an easy task because of some poor workmanship when our house was originally built.

I got 3 quotes for the work that I needed done. Andy was by far the most professional. He told me in detail what he would do, including the filling of holes in the new woodwork and the finish painting. I am an older person so he secured all the materials, painted them in his shop and brought them to my home ready to install. He maintained high standards for his work, returned several times to make sure holes were properly filled and did not show before he did the final painting. He did an outstanding job, and being a bit of a perfectionisit I am not easy to please. My foyer has all new woodwork and it makes a huge difference in how my place looks from entry. I would recommend Andrew highly.

I cannot say enough good things about Andy, his professionalism, and his unbelievable talent as a carpenter/woodworker. He was puntual and so nice! His talent surpasses anything that I had actually imagined. Frankly, I am happier with the overall look of the projects than I had anticipated. If I could give him all A+'s, I would! When we have another carpentry project, we will definitely call on him!!! Do the same! You won't be disappointed.

Andy's and his associate, Jason's, work is superb! We met with Andy to give him our ideas of how we would like a locker unit built to manage our family of 6 coats, shoes, backpacks etc.. Andy understood our vision and was able to deliver a beautiful locker unit that will provide our family the much needed organization we needed. We also had ordered through our other contractor cabinets for our laundry area that didn't work. Andy was able to build us cabinets to replace the wrong cabinets. He also did the finish work on the cabinets we ordered to look as good as locker unit he built.

We are very pleased with the outcome of our newly remodeled laundry room and can already tell a difference the extra space and locker organization provides our family.

We called Shoemaker Custom Carpentry based on his good reviews on Angie's List and made an appointment to get an estimate. He showed up right on time and was very informative. We planned to get two or three estimates, but once we met Andy, we didn't feel the need to call anyone else. He arrives when he says he's going to, and his cost for excellent workmanship is very good.

Member Comments: We initially sought quotes from several larger companies but found they were all unable to offer design solutions that added any additional cabinet space and their prices were way out of the budget ball park. Then we found Andy Shoemaker with Shoemaker's Custom Carpentry. His customer reviews were very impressive and now we know why. The entire experience from quote to finished product was such a positive experience! He really listened to what we were looking for, met all of our requirements and exceeded our expectations. Andy provides a high quality finished product on schedule at a very reasonable price with the highest level of customer service. For these reasons, we strongly recommend Shoemaker's Customer Carpentry.

This is the second time we have used Andy, and I have referred his name to countless people. He made a custom cabinet to fit under a bar in my new home theater. Andy's attention to detail is incredible and his quality of work is outstanding. He is always professional and met with me several times to develop a sketch of what I wanted, deliver stain choices, and install the cabinet. He also save me by installing four pre-hung doors in by basement that I thought I could install myself. (One of which required slight modification to get to fit.) Everything looks great and he was even able to fit me into the schedule with the last minute doors I asked him to install. I wouldn't use anyone else!
