Heat Pump - Install or Replace
NETR (now Sila/Goldman Sachs) heat pump installation on triple-decker. ~$107k, quoted 2 months, took 8 months.
- Design Error: Original electrical design violated Somerville setback code. Required complete redesign, ~7 week Eversource resubmission delay, neighbor coordination. I had to personally intervene with Eversource management.
- Failed Inspections: Electrical failed multiple times. NETR pressured for payment before inspections citing "substantial completion."
- Settlement: After 8 months I requested compensation. NETR offered $1,000, blamed delays on "my preference" not their design error. When I provided documentation proving otherwise, they withdrew offer to send foreman, gave 24-hour ultimatum to accept $1,500 or face "legal escalation." We settled to avoid further hassle.
Outcome: Heat pumps work now. But design error, failed inspections, gaslighting, and 4x timeline make this impossible to recommend.
On $100k affecting three households, expected better.

Gas Furnace / Forced Air Heating System - Repair
No invoice transparency at Sila Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical. I had an appointment on February 16, 2026, to troubleshoot a no-heat issue on the second floor of my home. I was told the repair would be $1,500. Although hesitant, I agreed to proceed because I needed heat.
The repair was completed, I paid $1,524.90, and the technician left. I later realized I had not been provided with an invoice, so I called the company directly at 781 438 4114. The person who answered the phone emailed me an invoice. The invoice listed an HVAC diagnostic fee of $69.00, followed by ?HYD 170,? with no price or itemized breakdown provided.
I understand that professional services and parts can incur significant costs, it is unreasonable that the part alone could account for the entire charge without any supporting documentation. I respectfully requested a detailed breakdown of the invoice through multiple phone calls and emails; however, the responses I received were dismissive and failed

Charged $2,000 (that's right, $2,000!) to install a new sprayer faucet and soap dispenser in Boston. $1,500 went to labor, which took less than 2 hours. I'm sorry, but $750/hr is outrageous. I did pay it because I wanted to expedite solving the problem for the tenants, but I now regret as their dishwasher is not working and I suspect the plumber failed to reconnect everything probably.

I used Sila for the first time this year using their Triple Bundle Coupon (Heating, AC, and Water Heater maintenance). I would highly recommend just calling them to book your appointment (the online chat is not as helpful). But otherwise super easy to book an appointment. They gave me a call about an hour before the tech was supposed to arrive and he arrived within the expected time. I had Nick as a technician. He was extremely cordial and I appreciated how he brought shoe covers (for when he had to walk around inside my home). I also really appreciated all the information he provided after the service was completed. He gave suggestions and product information hat could help improve the performance of my systems and helped explained what those items were in a way that I (not a HVAC pro) can understand. Really glad I used them for my PM this year!

I am only giving two stars since they were responsive and handled the initial assessment well, but thats where the good ends. I had a combi heater that stopped working and they were quick to respond with a plumber visit. The plumber at least did not charge me for the initial assessment and automatically triggered an HVAC visit (honestly my fault for communicating incorrectly the issue). The HVAC visit was the real issue. The tech only really ran some water through the system, concluded it was a pump issue, and wouldn't consider a repair, instead quoting me $30k for a replacement, which even from my own research was well above the expected price. I did my due diligence and got a second opinion, who more thoroughly tested the eletrical end of the unit, provided a temporary fix to a simple bad sensor, and quoted me $1k, mostly in parts costs. Stay away for HVAC, maybe they're justified for simple repairs and fast responses but that was pretty awful.

Nice guy. Checked the dehumidifier but was not able to repair it since the dehumidifier was unable to be opened and components repaired. Glad he didn’t spend a long time on it and didn’t charge anything further.

OVERPRICED. I recently had my kitchen faucet replaced with a chrome Kohler faucet (same one sold at HomeDepot for $299). The plumber took a little over an hour and I was charged $1200 for the job. On the invoice, there is no breakdown on materials or labor charges. Even when I asked about it, he stated it was "an all inclusive price, I am giving you a deal", and couldn't offer a breakdown. There is no way changing a kitchen faucet costs $1200, Kohler or not. I tried unsuccessfully to speak with the master plumber about the outrageous charge and my calls went unanswered, even though customer service confirmed they would get back to me. On the day of the installation I felt obligated to pay the bill but I shouldn't have paid or agreed to pay the $1200. The company also doesn't provide estimates in advance. I feel robbed, taken advantage of and I will never use Sila again. I would recommend you also go elsewhere before paying Sila an exorbitant amount of money for services that should cost a 1/3 of the amount.

Seemed pretty inexperienced (although not sure that is unique these days given staffing shortages). Didn’t really understand the ask about the bathtub drain being clogged. Did correctly fix the shower issue, but when they replaced the fixture they didn’t screw it in all the way so the next few showers let a lot of water into the wall until we realized and fixed. Overall did the job and came in reasonable time but seemed to be very new to the job.

Very disappointed by the work done by Sila. They have a salesperson convince you that it is worth it to pay more with Sila in order to have a "project manager" and then said project manager is nowhere to be seen and doesn't do the Mass Save paperwork, like they promised. Very poor communication regarding when people would show up (regarding the disposal of the old unit). Wouldn't help me get the rebate they told me they would help with. Unit stopped working pretty quickly and required me to be home 3 mornings in order for them to figure out what they messed up and fix it. Just avoid Sila. They are a joke.

Our rental property's AC stopped working. The technician from this company spent at most 20 minutes to look at it, but not test any thing. Then tell us we need a new heat pump and air handler. The diagnose costs $285. The technician time was charged including the travel time and time on site. I have never heard such thing that we need to pay a contractor their travel time. They later sent the quote for the new unit which is double the market price ($22k for the fixed speed unit and $25k for the 5-speed). A friend referred another company. Their technician came over and changed capacitor. The 10 years old heat pump starts cooling the house immediately. Stay away from Sila and find other trustworthy company.
