I do not want Jason, with SJ & Son Property, doing any work in my home. All the work he completed needed to be reinstalled/leveled/connected. Cabinets were not leveled properly. He was supposed to put up drywall since I live in an older house and it’s basically all plaster he did not put up drywall simply tore down the wood paneling and painted over it. So the kitchen has this stucco look on the walls. He used drywall screws to hang the cabinets which I was told by another contractor was not something he should have done. When, Michigan Builders Supply, which is the company who installed my countertops came and took measurements, they informed me that I needed to have the cabinets leveled before the countertops could be installed. The measurement was off so much that the basement door could not open without hitting the cabinet and this was before the countertops where even installed. Jason had the nerve to say that it looked fine to him but he knew I would want the cabinets moved. I mean why would you install them that way when you knew it was not done properly. I had to have the cabinets leveled correctly and moved by another contractor because Jason had already left at this point and I had MBS coming back out to take exact measurements for the countertops which took me another month before I was actually able to have them installed. The microwave that goes over the stove literately was hanging off the wall. All the cabinets had to be taken down and put back up because they also were not leveled correctly. The wood floor that was put in the kitchen was not installed correctly (warped with gaps in between), baseboards that I intended to keep where thrown out as the original baseboard in my home are not made anymore or if they are they are very expensive. So, When I questioned him about this, because I had already told him we needed these items he simply said he threw them out, he forgot. Then Jason purchases cheap baseboards but didn’t even install them. I had warps and gaps throughout the wood floor that laid, this flooring was very expensive and I had to purchase new flooring a second time to be installed which took me about 2 weeks to order again. My new dishwasher was not connected or installed to the cabinets. I had no water in the kitchen nor the bathroom for almost 2 months because of all the things I had to have redone. We had to use the tub to do everything. It’s a nightmare just thinking about what me, my husband and my children had to go through. He left the job before any of the other work was completed because we kept expressing to him the problems we were seeing in the work that he was doing. The most important however is the fact that I informed Jason that I wanted to have a load bearing wall removed – he expressed that he would get a permit once he removed the wall and that he did have a license to do this type of major work. Jason is not a licensed contractor I find out after he leaves the job nor did he get a permit like he said he needed. I do not know if what he put up to hold the weight is even correct and I am very concerned. I can see two beams combined which are under the drop ceiling going from one corner to another but nothing propped underneath for support. I am flabbergasted because I didn’t know until it was pointed out to me by another contractor who did not want to do work he was not licensed to do but said I needed to get this inspected ASAP! I am very concerned about this. Jason did not install the drop ceiling, railings on stairs, crown molding for cabinets, bathroom floor needs to be relayed, baseboards not installed in bathroom, light fixture not put installed in hallway, bathroom fan not installed, backsplash in bathroom not or Kitchen. Toilet is crooked. I just don’t have any money left to fix everything that needs to be redone and because of the work that still needs to be done, beam inspected, baseboards installed in kitchen and bathroom, crown molding for cabinets put on, drop ceiling tiles not cut and installed. Flooring in bathroom needs replacing, towel racks and toilet paper holder needs to be hung in bathroom, the railings for the stairway need to be installed, lighting in hallway not installed, bathroom fan not installed. What I want is a refund of the monies that I paid him since he did nothing, I have to have others come out and correct all his mistakes. This is why I am asking for a full refund in the about of $5400. I trusted Angie’s list to find me a suitable contractor and this man is not that. I suggest you have him removed off your website ASAP, as a person who can do this type of work. I wonder how many other people he has done this to. Nothing was done to satisfaction. He worked for 2 1/2 weeks for about 2-4 hrs. a day. Majority of that time was spent removing the cabinets off the walls, scrapping the kitchen and bathroom floor, removing old dishwasher and removing 6 cabinets that I had in the kitchen. He also removed the load bearing wall in my kitchen, which he did build a stand of some sort to hold up the load. Jason just out of the blue leaves a note ty while everyone is at work which says he can’t work with us anymore because all we do in nit-pick. Jason never returned nor did he answer the calls after trying to reach out to him.

Jason did a fantastic job! He installed manufactured hardwood throughout the entire home (no more nasty carpet!) and put up new baseboard trim. He tore down a wall to open up the dining room to the living room, installed new light fixtures and fans throughout, and he completely renovated the bathroom; he tore out the rusty metal tub, replaced all of the drain work/plumbing, installed a fiberglass bathtub, and tiled the shower with porcelain subway tiles. Jason also laid porcelain on the floor, installed a new toilet, vanity, and exhaust fan!
Jason always showed up on time, was professional, and polite. He gave me options when it came to the different paths we could go, and gave honest feedback regarding price vs. quality. He let me go with him to pick out the supplies, and after the first couple times, I trusted him enough to pick what he thought was the best and I don't regret it a bit.
I've also had Jason come back to do work on the house since the remodel including coming out to look at my fridge that wasn't keeping my items cold/frozen. Instead of having to buy a new fridge (like I thought I would have to) he replaced the defrost thermostat which was less $100.00, including his labor.
So, not only does Jason do the remodeling/carpentry work, but he also does normal home repair and maintenance. He definitely gives the best advice, pricing, and does the best quality of work I've seen. I recommend him to everyone I know that needs a handyman!
