SMALLING CONSTRUCTION

The deck is beautiful and Steve made some great suggestions on how to redo the railings and the suggestion was perfect. ?We are still waiting on the storm door. ?The job was supposed to start the first of June and it is almost the middle of November and we are still waiting on the storm door. ?It seems like whenever I call him, they act. ?When I called Steve the last time, I was told the storm door would be installed either on a Monday or Tuesday so my husband stayed home and no one came. ?Haven't heard anything since. ?I did pay him for everything but the storm door. ?I would just like the door installed and then promise not to bother him again. We ended up ordering our own storm door and will have someone else install it.

HOWEVER, he found a company in OH that could create a textured brick and then found a company in northern IN who came and hand stained every brick to match our existing brick.  If you didn't know our home had damage, you wouldn't be able to tell.  They did a beautiful job.  The reno took longer than I thought it would, but they had to find the brick and I know that was a chore. Plus to get on the schedule of the brick painters. Great workers and great job.  .   <br />

It went great! They did a good job, cleaned up everything.

Gave Steve 1/2 of the money when we signed the agreement the end of November and then weather hit and they scheduled as soon as their was a "warmer" break.  The 2 gentlemen who did the work were wonderful, professional and very efficient.  Knew what they were doing.  They worked both Saturday and Sunday to get the job completed. <br />

They did a pretty nice job on it. They worked from late April 2012 to early December 2012. For the most part, it was pretty good. We had some issues but they were able to resolve them. The insurance paid for it.

Steve Smalling was very professional and his team showed up promptly as promised. They did a great job, cleaned up after themselves and went up and above ensuring we were pleased with the job done. I would highly recommend them to anyone. <br />

The roof inspection was completed quickly. After they'd agreed to do our siding repair, it wasn't completed until 3 weeks after we were originally told us it would be. We had to call multiple times to find out when they'd be out, and each time, we weren't given a clear timeframe for completion of the repair (just told "in the next few days"). The work was finally done well and the price was great.  <br />

This was a two-day job.  The crew arrived at the appointed time.  The only "hitch" occurred when the drive belt on the air compressor for the jack hammers broke and about 3 hours were lost while a replacement compressor was procurred.  The old concrete was removed.  New pea-gravel was added to fill in voids and then new concrete was poured.  Rebar was placed in the concrete for extra strength (the original patio did not have rebar).  The job was completed on time.  No additional costs were incurred.  The job was completed five months ago and everything seems to be fine. <br />

About 5 years ago another company installed the roof and they didn't do a good job, but my insurance company recommended Smalling to replace it.  The insurance covered the costs and he did a great job.

They arrived on time, worked hard and left the yard picked-up and clean.

The project started out well.  The price was good, the crew was nice and responsive, and the quality of work looked great.  However, the project took longer than they had initially planned, which seemed to send everything into a tailspin.  They had scheduled another large job for when my house was supposed to be complete.  When mine wasn't done, instead of delaying the other job, they took most of the guys off of mine and moved them to the next job, leaving only a few people to finish and ultimately extending mine for another 5 weeks (effectively doubling the amount of time it took for the whole project).  To top it off, the crew, and especially the owner (Steve) became extremely unresponsive during this time.  I am assuming that they were over budget and trying to minimize their losses, but it soured the whole experience.  Since completing, there has been a few issues arise with their work, and they again have been terribly unresponsive to make the repairs.  Steve will NEVER return my phone calls, and I've had to call him from different phone numbers to get him to answer (I'm assuming he sees mine on caller ID).  All in all, I can't complain about the price or the quality, but the treatment I've received towards the end and after completion has been extremely frustrating.

hispanic crew without adequate supervision fooled around, failed to properly install peak over attic area which caused massive leak when it rained. company did respond well when notified and fixed peak.

Smalling did several things for us. Installed a beam in our garage to allow for storage in the attic. The job was not simple and his guys did an excellent job. They removed old roofing and installed a new roof. The crew was friendly, and kept the yard and flower gardens very clean while they were working. Installed new gutters. Again the crew was friendly and worked with us on a couple of trouble spots that need a creative solution, they continued to work on it until we were happy with the result. Repaired masonary on our chimney. Again, did a nice professional job.

They were punctual, efficient, and easy to work with. They did exactly what they said that would do. I would recommend them to others.

On the first day they showed up about 45 minutes before the scheduled time to start unloading equipment and supplies but did not knock on the door or do anything else to wake me up (I work nights) before the scheduled time. They started the outside work first because the week-long forecast called for rain later in the week. Each day they told me what they expected to accomplish that day. They checked about some points in the contract before that part of the work was started. They did a few extra touches that were not in the proposal at no extra charge. Clean-up after they were finished was better than I expected.

We just had a lot of things that went wrong.
