Use at your own risk in the Northern Alabama area. Contracted them to clean & inspect for future repairs. We paid for the "cleaning" & gave a deposit of $2,700 for repairs. After more than 2 months & numerous calls, the manager states they need to come back out to take "better measurements & photos". I said we're done, return my deposit. It took 3 weeks & 3 phone calls to get deposit back. Soon after, a leak developed on our BRAND NEW roof. Discovered Sootmaster crushed the cricket next to the chimney. We eventually decided to do the work ourselves & proceeded to clean out over FIVE GALLONS of soot. They didn't clean anything...but took our money for it. Money stolen and roof damaged...USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I had Mike out here to do a chimney sweep and inspection and he was amazing! He was very kind and had a lot of knowledge on chimneys. When the day came to do the repair he got here on time unlike most companies, and did an outstanding job with my chimney repairs. I couldn’t be more happy with Mike, the company, and the amazing chimney I know get to burn in safely!

work has not been done. they receive full payment . I contacted the company and spoke with Marsha asking about the cashier check, she inform me that she wasn't sure if she received the check but she will call me back. I contact my bank the check was deposited into sootmaster account. the called the next day and spoke the the receptionist /secretary she saw rude when I asked her whom do I speak about a refund, she told me that there is no-one that I can speak to . I informed her that I have paid for work work that was not done. she told me to hold on and came back to the phone to say the internet was down. I will file a complaint with BBB, Contracting License board and Attorney General office in Baton Rouge and Florida to get my refund back

This is an update to my review of 5/09/20. The Contractor called me shortly after the review was posted and said that they would like to come out and build the crown as I had originally requested. They came out on 5/27/20, Proceeded to cut off the previous crown and installed the crown as I had originally wanted. Scott had read the design standard and was well prepared. We waited about 30 days before applying the crown saver. This was a very good installation. No issues since. Crown saver has no peeling or blistering. Survived Hurricane Sally with no issue. I can’t help but to think that my issue would have never been resolved had it not been for the review on Angie’s List. I am thankful for this format.

Had a bad leak in my roof. The guys that came were able to find the source and seal it. They waterproofed the rest of the chimney as well so that it would not happen again.

The two gentlemen who did the work were punctual, courteous, and friendly. They were very careful to protect the rest of my house from the mess when demolishing the old fireplace, and cleaned up after the job. They listened to me and took care when fitting the stones to get the look of my new fireplace just right. They charged exactly the amount of the estimate - they didn't try to make excuses for the job costing more. Finally, they followed up after the job to make sure I was happy with the work. Now I'm looking forward to winter to try out my new stone fireplace.

Where do I begin? Had a chimney rebuild due to spalling of chicago brick. Questioned the crown build due to no drip edge and was told that their installation met standards. About 6 months later, I noticed the fireplace brick was wet. Looked at the crown and it had blistered and burst open. Was liquid underneath the thick skin of the crown seal. They came out and cut out the wet parts and reapplied the crown seal. The explanation was that the manufacturer of the crown seal had changed their installation instructions without telling anyone. A few months later, same problem. I sent video to Tim Matthews email with no response. I finally filed a claim with BBB. Got a call the next day from the office. Patrick Buell came out and wanted to do the same as the last time. I insisted that we remove ALL of the crown seal so that we could discover the source of the failure. Patrick did remove almost all of the seal and the issue was revealed. The installer(Scott) had apparently run short of concrete on the build of the crown and had built up the difference with a massive amount of crown seal. This application, caused a thick skin to form on the top surface, which made it impossible for the liquid product underneath to cure. Was just a matter of time for failure to to expansion and contraction. Patrick suggested a patch of concrete over the existing which was unacceptable to me due to bonding issues with the concrete. I wanted the previous concrete torn out and a proper crown installed according proper standards (extension over the brick, bond breaks between concrete and brick, and drip edge) Scott called and confirmed that it would be taken care of. No further response. I called the BBB and was told that they closed the claim due to no response from Sootmaster to the BBB repeated attempts to contact them, including certified mail. I am 65 years old and have a tarp (my tarp) on top of my chimney. I have to climb up on the roof to monitor for leaks. Stay away from these guys.

The company has been holding my deposit for eight months and has not performed the work. The company does not respond to calls and repeated emails. Only recently have I found one person at the company who will respond to my calls, albeit slowly. But still, work has not commenced.

Outstanding job and service. Highly recommend Patrick and his team as the service and craftsmanship are outstanding.

Buell performed a safety inspection on our fireplace. We had made a payment of $1177. which included $209 for the inspection and the balance a down payment on gas logs. We were unable to get a contractor to run a propane line so cancelled the gas logs. We tried to switch to a pellet stove and were shown two models but then have heard nothing . I have tried many times to reach them and have when I have managed to get through I get blown off. The original service was 9/18/2018. My only option now is to tell everyone of the problem and file a theft report. I am out $968.

They responded fast and my chimney has never been cleaner. Very pleased with this company.

They came out and gave me a quote and fixed it the same day. It’s not two weeks later and we have had a lot of rain with no signs of mosisture what so ever. Thank you

It was great. Will definitely use next year. I do not like to burn a fire without being sure we are safe.

My experience was good. The office called ahead with a reminder and Patrick called that morning of with an ETA. He was on time and professional and took care to protect the surrounding area and keep things clean. He thoroughly explained his findings and recommendations.
