My old GE Profile side-by-side in a rental house was not cooling as it should. I reviewed appliance repair firms on A.L. and decided on Southern Pride because of recommendations here. They offered a coupon for $145 for an appliance repair. Silly me, I didn't read the entire coupon description and thought that the $145 would be reasonable for labor and (say) a defroster fan or timer. After I bought the coupon, though, I discovered that parts are excluded. I figured that a decent repairman would not need $145 worth of labor (at $65 per hour service call) to repair a cooling issue in a fridge, so I called A.L. and canceled the coupon. Apparently this cancellation didn't trickle down to Micheal in time for our appointment; he showed up at the appointment time and expected that I had paid via coupon. I told him I had canceled it. Michael removed the back panel of the freezer, saw the bottom coils were frozen, quickly defrosted them, and concluded that someone had left the freezer door partially open. He also checked the oven and found that the heating element had shorted and was constantly on, so he quickly replaced that. He wrote out the invoice for $170--which covered the heating element and his labor with that, plus his labor with the fridge. This price seemed extremely high to me, especially for less than an hour of repair time, but I guessed it had something to do with the coupon mess--like I was going to be charged for the $145 coupon price anyway.
About three weeks later, my tenant again complained that the fridge was not cooling properly. I called Michael and he again responded promptly. He defrosted the bottom freezer coils again and adjusted the fan that feeds cold air into the fridge side. He charged me $65 for that service call.
Three weeks passed and the fridge again was not cooling. I had wasted money and time with Michael, and more importantly, my tenants had a right to be exasperated with me for a fridge that was on the blink for 1-1/2 months. I hired another appliance repair firm highly recommended on A.L. and they looked at the frozen coils and tested a couple of things, and told me that my compressor was going bad (not enough refrigerant to reach the top coils) and that I would need a new fridge, and charged me $65.
Conclusions: 1) Southern Pride worked out poorly for me; 2) always find out what the warranty is on service performed. 3) carefully read the coupon description before buying.
Southern Pride Services first came over to look at a potential frontloading washing machine problem. The gentleman said that the repair parts would exceed the cost of a new machine. Since he fixed nothing, he graciously offered to repair another appliance in the future.
The future need was our Jenn-Aire down-draft stove. The fan really hadn't sucked air since it was new. It turns out that the fan was connected to the exhaust through a non-std fitting. He used duct tape to fashion a repair. We now get some exhaust, but it's not nearly strong enough to handle fumes from the stove. Our fire alarms still go off if we have fumes that need pulled away from the stove.
I guess we need an entirely new hookup. We haven't investigated that because of the expected cost. The stove originally was purchased from the largest appliance retailer in the Raleigh area, and they got it wrong.
The service provider was very professional, timely and courteous. We'd hire him again.
They came on time and identified the root cause of the issue. They don't have the parts with them. So ordered it and came back the other day to get it fixed.
My wife was here when they did the service. They were very helpful. There were no extra charges. The technicians my wife said were extremely courteous, very knowledgeable, and very efficient. She asked them questions about our oven, which we thought was very slow to heat up, but he indicated that he has the same stove that we have, and he told her why, because of the structure of the oven. It takes it longer to heat, but there was nothing wrong with the oven. It was value added. The price was good too.

They were great. Scheduling was very easy. They technician looked at my 17 year old dryer and he showed me ways to save money. He also corrected my dishwasher for free and all my other appliances are working great. I will hire them every year.
