SPAULDING'S TREE EXPERTS INC

They quoted us $400 and then went around and found some more work. It would be another $200 but I couldn't locate my husband to approve it so I told them not to do it.  They asked me to write the check to a person, not the company, and I told them I couldn't do that.  I pay taxes and they can too.  They tried to give me the check back because they didn't have an account set up in their company name.  They didn't have a business account for their business card name which is what I made the check out to.  I wouldn't make the check out to Steve Spaulding and they got very nasty with me.  Then they threw the check back at me and said that we did all the work for nothing.  They threatened me and that's when I told them that I pay my taxes and they should too.

They had finished a product in the neighborhood and we could see that they had done acceptable work.  When they came to the door we talked to them and said we would be interested in a bid.  They came back after they had finished the other job, gave us an estimate and provided their insurance certificate (which we copied).  They told us what they were going to do, and they did it.  Cleaned up very completely.  (Even got a few leaves.)  We have had tree work done before and know it is expensive. <br /> <br />

We were very happy with the experience.

Job went very well. The guys were very nice and cleaned up after themselves. They even made efforts to clean up sawdust. <br />

Tree was near a vinyl picket fence. Worker who climbed the tree allowed parts cut out of the tree to fall on fence, breaking off some of the picket tops.  Spaulding wanted to glue them back on instead of replacing the fence panel. We agreed but Spaulding never returned to fix the pickets.  Once the Spaulding crew was finished, they drove off. Approx. 15 minutes later, there was a knock on the door and it was the original worker who had come to the door to see if there was work needed at our house.  The crew had left him behind somehow and he had no way to get to the Spaulding office headquarters.  My husband had left by then so I reluctantly agreed to drive this person to the Spaulding office.  Was a very uneasy drive and I would never do it again. This worker was very forward with his comments while riding in my car, but I never called the Spaulding owner because the worker was his brother.  Very bad experience and very bad judgment on our part. <br />

See above, please. <br /> Bottom story, $1400 was a rip off of an elderly person.  For that amount of money we should have had 2 trees removed and the branches cut that were near the roof.  The crab apple tree should not have been trimmed or could have been done by ourselves as all branches were reachable. <br />

I was raking leaves in the yard.  Spaulding came by and gave me an estimate on trimming 3 trees.  The next day <br /> I hired them and they came the following day and did the work.  They were fast and professional.  I would hire them <br /> again.  I have recommended them to several friends. <br />

A represenative named Chad knocked on our door offering to perform work as there was a crew in the area. Our trees were in need of work and the opportunity was right. I found them on Angie's list to confirm before accepting the work. Shortly after Steve the owner came and wrote up the estimate and a crew of 8-10 guys followed behind. They cut out the dead wood, trimed branches away from the house and a tree climber went into the trees to get dead wood higher up.  All of the trimings were cleaned up and "chipped", the yard was raked and the sidewalks cleaned with a blower.  <br /> The crew was very responsive to our requests and needs and checked in throughout the work to make sure things were going as expected.  <br /> Steve was very eager to ensure our satisfaction making sure we were happy.  <br />

He treated the tree with drought issues in hopes to help it, he gave us excellent advice on what to do with our sweet gum tree in the spring to help reduce the # of"gum" balls or fruit as he described it, and he removed tree and stump of the overgrown tree.He had planned to be here a day earlier, and when calling his buisness phone and cell #'s, the one thing i'd like to suggest is that the Voice mail contain the Company name, I was not sure i had the correct number when listening to the message.  He finnaly did call me back and asked if we wanted the work done, and when i arrived home that evining all was done, and cleaned up to our satisfaction.

They discovered one had bores so they treated it. Came back today and retreated it. again.Have been great in helping me keep the cost down. Also had some work done on the house. Had some roof problems they worked on.  Also major roof rote on back of house. If Steve hadn't found  it I would have had big problems down the road, I would highly  recommend them.                                   May not be there right when expected but he'll call and show up to do the work.

My cousin and I help my elderly grandmother out with many different tasks. We are there everyday to help her. She hired them to remove a tree in her yard because it was marked as having the ash bore in it. A note that was tied to it stated that it was cheaper to treat the tree than to remove it. They ended up cutting down the tree and charged her $500 for removal. I viewed a past invoice from this same company that stated she only paid $350.00 for the removal of three pine trees. I feel like this most recent removal was not at a fair price and that they take advantage of my elderly grandmother. Also, my grandmother witnessed two of the workers having a confrontation while working. They ended up choosing to leave early as a result of the argument they were having. This took place after they were three hours late. I am not as concerned about the price as much as the service rendered. I just talked to the company and they are working to make this situation right. They are supposed to make sure this situation is better. Although they are trying to make this right I feel like there was an excuse for everything and this did not add up. The workers were very confrontational towards eachother and were using profanities at eachother. This was not very professional at all.

He spent 2 days trimming 6 trees which required him to use a bucket ladder. He worked in 90 degree weather and the weather did not effect his quality.

They did a really good job.  They cleaned up.  It is a family owned company.  They are local native folks and live around here.  If there is a need, I would use them again in the future too.

Overall the experience was more than satisfactory.

Overall it went well. The workers were professional and courteous. We were not specific enough in our agreement of what was to be done. We agreed they would clean up the old cut wood area from 'here to there'. They thought that meant logs. We thought that meant sticks and logs. In the end, the leftover sticks are not a big deal. But be sure to communicate well what work will be done. That's good advice working with any company. We would definitely hire them again.

This guy was doing some work on my neighbor's trees and he came over to talk to me about what I wanted done. At first, I wanted to cut a tree down, but he convinced me to save it and just cut it back. We agreed on a price and his gang went to work. They did a pretty good job and cleaned up.

I hired this company in the past and was pleased, however they seemed to take advance of me this time. They cut down several trees in the yard, removed stumps and dead limbed. When I walked around the yard with Steve to point out what needed to be cut, we agreed on dead limbs from the whole yard and removing ALL stumps. When they came back to do the job (over a month and half later) Steve said he only agreed to dead limb certain trees and only agreed to remove 5 stumps. All the tree were cut up into firewood size pieces, but left exactly were they dropped were in the passed they were stacked in the pile. Unfortunately, I trusted Steve and didn't mark the trees, nor get the proposal in writing this time and got burned. Half way through the day, Steve asked me to pay him in cash. I have small children and was not going to make a special trip to bank so he could hide revenue. Additionally, his crew left their lunch garbage, coffee cups, and soda bottles all over the yard.

I LET A MESSAGE ON A FRIDAY AROUND 5:30 P.M. I RECEIVED A RETURN CALL SATURDAY A.M. AND THEY WERE AT OUR DOOR BY 11:00 A.M. AND COMPLETED THE WORK BY 7:30 P.M. THE SAME SATURDAY. THEY ALSO PERFORMED SERVICES FOR TWO NEIGHBORS ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AND TUESDAY AFTER THE NEIGHBORS SAW THE WORK, TIME, AND EFFORT OF THE GROUP.

OVERPRICED, CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT THEY DID NOT DO EVERYTHING THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO.

THE YARD LOOKS BETTER NOW THAT THEY HAVE BEEN HERE, VERY PROFESSIONAL, AND THE EMPLOYEES SEEMED TO LIKE WORKING FOR HIM. HE MOVED ANOTHER TREE FOR ME AND GUARANTEED IT. I WILL USE THEM AGAIN.

MR. SPAULDING AND CREW DID A GOOD JOB PERFORMING THE TREE-TRIMMING JOB, BUT HIS CREW DAMAGED OUR HOME'S GUTTERING AND A DIFFERENT TREE IN OUR YARD BY RUNNING INTO THEM WITH THEIR TRUCK (A LARGE ''CHERRY PICKER'' TRUCK). MR. SPAULDING, HOWEVER, WAS GRACIOUS ABOUT THE DAMAGE AND TOOK THE REPAIR COSTS OUT OF HIS TOTAL BILL. HE REDUCED HIS ORIGINAL COST OF THE JOB FROM $300 TO $150 AFTER REIMBURSING US FOR THE DAMAGES. HE ALLOWED US TO USE THE GUTTERING SERVICE (JIM CLARK) OF OUR CHOICE TO DO THE REPAIR WORK. I WAS HAPPY ABOUT THE WORK HE AND HIS CREW DID ON THE JOB REQUESTED, AND SATISFIED WITH THE RESOLUTION OF REPAIRING THE DAMAGE THAT HIS CREW CAUSED.

THE STUMP GRINDING WAS SUBCONTRACTED. SPAULDING WAS IN THE AREA AND STOPPED BY TO INQUIRE ABOUT TREE WORK. THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS GOOD, SO WAS THEIR CLEAN UP.

THEY DID OFFER TO PERFORM THE WORK WHEN THEY ARRIVED TO MAKE THE ESTIMATE. I ASKED IF THEY ACCEPTED CREDITS CARDS, AND WAS TOLD TO PROVIDE A CHECK. WHEN ASKED WHO TO MAKE THE CHECK OUT TO, I WAS ASKED MORE THAN ONCE TO MAKE IT OUT PERSONALLY TO THE OWNER. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE INTENT WAS TO POCKET THE MONEY TO AVOID REPORTING REVENUE AND PAYING BUSINESS TAXES. I MADE THE CHECK OUT TO SPAULDING'S TREE EXPERTS. TOTAL EFFORT TOOK LESS THAN 20 MINUTES. I AGREED TO PAY THE PREMIUM PRICE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE TREE'S ROOTS HAD STARTED TO EMERGE FROM THE GROUND, AND STRONG WINDS COULD HAVE PUT THE TREE INTO THE NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE.

THEY GAVE ME A VERY GOOD PRICE. HIS PRICE STARTED OUT HIGHER, BUT LATER DROPPED IT SIGNIFICANTLY. HE EXPLAINED THAT HE HAD A LARGE CREW AND REALLY NEEDED SOME WORK. THEY DID A GOOD JOB. THEY HAD ALL OF THE LARGE EQUIPMENT TO DO THE JOB. HE HAD A LIFT THAT ACTUALLY LIFTS UP THE TRUNK OF THE TREE. THIS TREE WAS VERY LARGE.

SPAULDING'S DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB TRIMMING MY TREES AND DID AN EQUALLY OUTSTANDING JOB CLEANING UP ALL THE BRANCHES, LIMBS, CHIPS, ETC...
